516 Tasting Notes
Travelling tea box!
How fun! I wish I could join the next one but funds just aren’t on my side lately, however, after taking part in one I can truly say that it is an AMAZING experience – not to be missed! ee!
I think I should have used more leaf for more flavour, however the small amount of flavour I did get was yummy! The marshmallows were perfect, and I love the balance of chocolate and graham. Sadly it was a bit watery (should have read the reviews first) – but I now know why this is a Teaopia tea to be missed!
I only have just over a teaspoon left, so I’ll mix it with Della Terra Smores tea because they will mix poifectly! :D
Another from the travelling tea box! When I see a black pearl, I have to go for it!
This is the strangest Black Pearl I’ve had (I’ve tried 3-4 from different companies). I found this one quite gritty, lots of sediment at the bottom of my cup, and it definitely tasted more like a mild puer than a black tea. Interesting!
No notes really popped out at me except for earthy or sort of like fresh dirt. I was pining for a sweetness or smokiness that never really came – didn’t get any floral. (I used 3 pearls for one small mug). The resteep didn’t impress me too much so I didn’t go for a third.
That said I was very happy to try! I think I’ll stick with the Jasmine Black Pearl from DT and Black Dragon from Teavivre for my pearly needs, but thanks travelling box!
HI!! I have to figure out what’s going on here. I’m Garret and I founded mandala tea. I sourced these black pearls each year in China. I can’t for the life of me understand why the last two reviews (both of whom received it as a trade from someone else) are having such poor experiences with it. This is the same batch that is usually reviewed in the 90’s and that we sell a ton of (literally). I can only surmise that something has occurred in the storage of or the shipping of the leaves. One reviewer said they were overpowering in jasmine and yet they are not imbued with jasmine whatsoever. This is, indeed, a curiosity and it’s making me a little crazy. Ok… I was crazy to begin with :) Just hard to see what I know is such a great tea all of the sudden get two bad ratings. Well, I may never know what happened here. But I appreciate you writing about it. If you read the previous reviews, you’ll see some pretty great things said about them. This is a headscratcher, for sure. I hope you are having tea-riffic day, my friend!! Joy to you!!
Yesss this one was a winner from the travelling tea box!
I’m taking so many hot baths since starting my amazing new job that right after the bath I am thiiirsty for iced cold tea. Of course I’m out of my favourites – Kanpe and Strawberry Rhubarb, but I smelled this little baggy in the box and knew it would be poifect for my needs.
Lately, I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve been craving hibby. Craving the tartness and how refreshing it is! Of course I have to add a lot of sweetener too, but man it’s hitting the iced tea spot (when it’s done well of course). This one is strong on the tart front but soo refreshing and yummy. mm!
It’s quite cinnamon-y as well, and the brew is quite “thick”, even over ice. I’m not sure that I would purchase this one, as it is a little one-note, but after my hot bath the other night it hit the spot. Dang! Thanks TTB!
I just had a very very specific craving for an iced fruit tea latte.
Then I found this at the back of my tea cupboard! Threw the whole bag in the steeper, about 3 tbsp probably.
Sadly forgot that almond milk curdles with hot bevs, but then I made a second cup with regular milk!
Trial over: my beverage? A delicious creamy and sweet strawberry milkshake flavour! YUM!
Wow – love at first sip!
My new Buttercream! :D It doesn’t have the same flavour notes as Buttercream, but it is naturally sweet like it (naturally as in no added sugar by me!) and it is delicious.
The first sip was an immediate reaction – oh my gah it tastes like chocolate chip cookie dough without the chocolate chips. That’s always my favourite part of cookie dough, smooth and sweet and buttery – yum!
I kept my tea bag in for about 10-20 minutes (I was in training) – I found that at 15 minutes (it didn’t get bitter at all) but it started to lose it’s signature cookie dough taste. At 5-10 minutes it shone and was great! So I say, don’t be afraid to keep the leaves in, but don’t use boiling water – experiment, smell and take sips as you go. Don’t put your leaves in and forget them for 10 minutes lol, everyone’s process is different!
On a different note, any “tea budget” has gone to Lush for the moment. How sad! At least I can get some DT with a small discount when I’m craving. Not that I don’t have enough tea, oi!
GAH! I had just one more tea in my cupboard than on my shopping list, and then this review came along. Now they’re neck and neck! [shakes fist] =]
Thanks for the tips about steeping it longer. I probably wouldn’t have thought that since I’m so afraid of oversteeping.
Do you work at DT? Or work somewhere else that gives you a DT discount?
Oh even at 3-5 mins it was tasty too, so it’s a very versatile tea! Love it!
I work at the mall where DT is, and all mall workers get a 10% discount! Not much, but hey, it’s something! :)
Hahahahaha, I read your review after posting mine, and said a few nearly identical things! Did you try it with boiling water, as I did? (Well, mine was a few degrees below boiling. I was skeptical, but tried anyhow.)
I had some today and I was like, it really does taste like cookie dough. I know this will be an awesome latte too. I had it with milk and sugar, but milk was not frothy.
FYI: I was looking this up on the website to see how long to steep when I saw it’s hugely on sale right now. Thought you might want to know. http://www.davidstea.com/cookie-dough-250g-en?&TF=&DEID=
Helena’s favourite tea made a blog appearance today! haha
It’s just what I need to try to overcome the gloom and STUDYSTUDYSTUDY my LUSH stuff. I really have to think of it like school, but it’s so much more important than school because I need to prove myself as not-just-a-seasonal-worker.
Man I blather on sometimes.
This tea is lemony goodness!

You can do it, Daisy! I say start learning some of the basic EC’s like vanilla, almond, cocoa butter, lavender, etc. It also helps to learn stuff by categories. Like, with the massage bars, break it down by the cocoa butter base, talk about its moisturizing properties, how they eliminate packaging because they’re solid, then from there, you can learn the individual ingredients of each, like Wiccy having the stimulating aduki beans, warming cinnamon, and tingly peppermint, etc.
mmm d-lish!
Super glad I jumped on the Large size for this matcha. I don’t have any milk right now, but I know it will make a kick butt latte when I get the chance.
The fig is sweet – closer to a fresh fig than a fig newton, in my opinion, so yay for that!
I’m reseraching LUSH like a mad woman – I have to say the smell does remind me of a Dorothy bubble bar. I think I have a new found love for fig-scented and flavoured things – bring on more fig tea please!
Whaaat – no notes on this one? But I KNOW I wrote notes on this one!
Oh well – I still have quite a bit of this one left, but I have a feeling it’s lost its potency. Oops!
Still nice, but it is very light in flavour.
It’s like drinking the woods- so refreshing! I wrote a little blog post about it quite a while back :) Such a cool tea!
Thank you! I should use it soon, it’s been neglected since I got a gaiwan. Don’t worry little pot, I’ll use you tomorrow :D
don’t make my hope goes high like that ! after seeing the review was hoping that this tea was back but no :( that what happen when i don’t buy big quantity of something i like right now and wait formlater
Silly Steepster, sometimes deleting our notes!
Hey Zoltar, you’re right – sorry to get your hopes up :(
It’s okay i’m sure they are gonna make another tea like that for the winter this time i’m gonna buy a lot of it :P
Thanks! I got them both from DavidsTea, the teapot seems to no longer exist :( But the cups do!
thanks so much! they look so different in your pictures than they do on the website. i’m definitely gonna get a couple. …now i am on the hunt for a tiny 6oz teapot!
the teapot no longer exist but you can email them they will check if store near you got some left that what they did for me
okay, so, long story, but happy ending.
i placed two tea orders with DavidsTeas this month. (i know i have a problem.) (butit’scoldweathertimeandtheteawasjustallsowonderfulsoundingandihadn’tboughtanyinalongtimeanddamnitineededthattravelmug!)
one was placed real early in the month and when i got a shipping notice for the second late order i placed just a few days ago i decided to call DavidsTea and see what’s up. now a few days before that i had randomly emailed them to ask about the tiny glass gongfu teapot in your pictures as Zoltar recommended. ….drumroll…. now they are urgently shipping my tardy order to me and sending me the teapot free. next week is gonna be a teapocolypse!
yay for you ! :) the teapot is really great and hard to get good that you could get one and even more for free lol
I still have some ;)
It might not be fresh, but when I get around to swapping again, I will send some off! Even if it’s not “fresh” per se, it still tastes the same to me! Wintergreeny!
I love this one. I got a big bag of it when they marked it dow 75%…how could I resist, right? Sadly, it is already dwindling, and I’ll be sad when it is gone for sure.
