mango mango mango! high hopes for this one, folks…

hmm, oddly tart. probably the citrus fruits in there. it truly does taste like a fruit punch, with kind of an artificial aftertaste though.
i’d try it iced, but not as a hot tea again.
it is something different though, i can see what they were going for and it will definitely work on ice.

I LOVE mango, but sadly I don’t love this.

I finally took the plunge and bought an iced tea pitcher today (yay!), and along with that I picked up a couple of the pitcher-perfect tea packages. This was one of the flavours.

While I absolutely loved this tea on dry sniff, it doesn’t taste like I thought it would at all. It reminds me of some icky citrus/peach-flavored drink that I would have had as a kid, or something, and it’s not all that appetizing. Mango is creamy and smooth and sweet and delicious, but for whatever reason I can’t taste any of that goodness in this tea.

…And now I have an entire pitcher of it to get through.

Editing to Add: I realized after I wrote this that the problem with this tea – for me – might just have been that I didn’t add enough sugar, and I may give it another chance in the future to test this theory out. We’ll see.

Finishing up the last of this in my tea stash. I’d actually completely forgotten about it! (Thank goodness for finding things in your own cupboard, and one more reason why I need to do more sipping.)

The first few steeps tasted exactly like a tropical fruit punch. It’s lost that a bit as its cooled off a bit, but it still gives a very nice, tropical aftertaste. While it’d be better if it kept this first impression, that’s still not bad!

I don’t know how I feel about this one being reintroduced as a summer tea again this year. I liked it last year, don’t get me wrong. It was good as a hot tea, and it was good as an iced tea. But…holy geez. It’s a heavy tea. I asked for 100g of it, and got a tin about 1/3 full. It could have all fit in a bag! At least I got a free tin out of the deal…

Unlike many other reintroductions, this one tastes the same as last year (same cannot be said about Mom’s Apple Pie…boo.). Fruity, a bit of a tart after-taste, and sweet. Has that same awesome radioactive-orange colour, too. I don’t know how much “mango” I actually taste in the tea, and I think I said that last time, too. I do taste both the orange and pineapple quite clearly. I guess maybe I didn’t get gigantic chunks of mango in my scoop out of the big tin.

Like someone else mentioned in their note, I’m convinced this wouldn’t be difficult to make. Most of this is available at the bulk store (except maybe orange? I’d have to think about that one…), and so I’m really, really tempted to try to make my own of this. I’ve said that about Forever Nuts, too (and I buy that one because it’s so, so good…but it’s just apples, almonds and beet root! How hard can that be to make?!). I just don’t want to be double-disappointed if I go that route. lol

Verdict: wouldn’t likely buy because it’s SO heavy, but I do like it. So down-rated because of expense.

#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #210 overall / Tea #34 for May
Monday 5/24 - DT Mango Fruit Punch pitcher packs x2 cold brewed pitcher for daysssss. Not sure why I didn’t have any sipdowns Fri/Sat/Sun (5/21-5/23)? Fri was a double shift, Sat off, Sun an easy-going AM shift. I’ll have to double check my stash. As the weather the past week or so has been upper 80s/low 90s in daytime I’ve been doubling down on the cold brew pitchers, not really as many lattes or hot drinks.

This is from M Mack a while ago, thank you!  I would say this is hardly “mango”.  So many huge orange pieces, it ends up tasting mostly like orange juice. Or a vitamin C supplement, maybe that’s the stevia getting older.  Of course this is slightly older now.  I would have liked more of the other elements to come through: mango, pineapple, strawberry.  Those SOUND like a great blend… that I’m imagining.  Also had this with half an actual mango… so fresh mango was only going to diminish this tea, sadly.  The photo sure looks tasty though.

I briefly stopped in at DT since it was right beside a store I was going to. I picked up a slew of different teas to brew iced, including their new ones. I really liked this one.

I brewed 2 tsp in 1000 mL (1 litre) jug of hot water ~10 minutes and then poured over ice. Then, I left the teabag in the jug in the fridge over with more water. Both steeps have been excellent. It tastes as good as it smells. I get lots of mango, but also orange (and not the medicinal orange like in some other citrus blends, this is fresh orange juice), stone fruit/peach, pineapple, and possibly passion fruit or some type of tropical fruit. Super refreshing, I highly recommend serving this over ice. It doesn’t get acidic or sour/bitter so overnight steeps are also great.

Found myself at DavidsTea today after what felt like ages. Feeling thirsty and wanting something less sugary than the usual fare at the mall food court, decided to get a cup of this iced. For some reason, this reminded me of Mountain Dew but without the sugar. It was citrusy, with heavier pineapple than mango and tropical fruitiness in the background. The tea was sweetened but just barely so. Enough to bring out its natural sweetness without tasting sugary.

For an herbal, this was really tasty and worked perfectly in iced tea. I’m curious as to what it would taste like hot and unsweetened. I’d also like to see how it does blended with a straight tea. I may revisit this one once my Murchie’s Mango Green Tea runs out.

I have considered adding my DTs herbals, the ones I am not fond of, to the black teas I find a bit lacklustre. Might work.

LuckyMe

That’s a great idea and I think it would work too. I often do this with half spent tea leaves. Some teas have to be blended with another to get the best out of them.

Evol Ving Ness

On it. I will report when this happens.

Another of the fruit infusions gifted me by my friend Karen from St Norbert MB. This was sweet. Slightly artificially sweet but not bad. Even with my lack of taste, this one was citrusy. It also had a bit of a sour note at the end of the sip. I made one cup warm, and then made a second cup and poured it over ice. I have to say, as an iced tea it was better. Light, zingy, refreshing. It makes me wonder if these aren’t meant to be drunk iced.Duh. Now that I’ve discovered that I wish I had more so I could try it again.

Terrifically tropical! I’m actually really impressed with this. On dry smell it seems like it will be another generic fake sweetener fruity tea, but it’s less sweet than I expected. Oh, it’s still plenty sweet – you can tell the fruit was candied – but I don’t taste any offensive sweetener. I’m having it hot because I’m a dork who likes hot fruity teas, but this would be a star iced.
