Pom Tango

I feel like this tea would be better as a cold brew. It’s got a nice flavour but there’s a tartness to it that reminds me of hibiscus more than pomegranate. It’s not particularly “mango-ey” either in my opinion, but that might be more due to the sample ratio than anything. Of course to me that sort of speaks to the tea as well, since i don’t like drinking teas where the taste is dependant on which pieces of whatever fall in to your cup. IMO you should be able to get a fairly consistent cup of tea no matter what your sppon picks up. Overall, not sure what the fuss is about. It tastes much more artifical tasting to me than anything. It’s not a bad cup, but if i never had it again, i certainly wouldn’t be upset.

(on a side note, i also tried a cup of super berry from david’s which isn’t on steepster, so i’m not going to add it because i pretty much sipped and spat it back into the cup. gross!)

Flavour: A delectable blend – ripe and fruity with a sweet black tea base.

Backlog from this morning. Yep, still on the fence with this one. I’m thinking I did not get much actual tea in the small sample, so I’m considering dumping the last of m y Mi Xian Black from Butiki in to fluff it up. It just seemed so…weak. And I’m not sure if the tartness I have in my mouth is from the tea, or affected my perception of the tea. I’m gonna try to scrub my tongue some, and see if there is something causing the taste. I’ve had this before, though I don’t recall if I did anything special to fix it or if it went away on its own.

I thought I would LOVE this tea. Don’t get me wrong, I like it alright. However, at the end of the sip, in the back of your mouth there is just a taste and sensation that is not my favorite. It is okay, the fruit flavor is nice. But that end of the sip feeling…blech!

Did anyone else get that feeling?

Holy sweet tea, Batman! Cold-brewed my free sample of Pom Tango. When I was adding the leaf, there was a HUGE slice of dried mango in there. I decided to steep it instead of just rinsing it off and eating it. (That took some serious self-control, let me tell ya.)

Anyways… this steeped up to a much lighter color than I expected for a black tea. It’s the same gold color as champagne! Taste is sweet. Like, really sweet. Like, “I can’t believe I didn’t add sugar to this” sweet. Like, “you sure this is black tea and not a tisane?”sweet. You get the point.

Tastes predominantly like mango, and not much like pomegranate. Though that may just be because my sample packet was mango-heavy. It’s hard to really get a feel for a tea when you only have a tiny bit to dig through. I’m enjoying this glass; it makes me feel like I’m drinking fruit juice!

Bought 100g of this immediately after a in store sample, but reading the ingredients I knew I was going to get it before I even walked into the store. Gotta say the first thing I noticed about this blend, nothing seems to float up in my infuser?!

I really do enjoy fruity teas, this one is a home run for me, it really reminds me of Paradise Found; however with improvements. Paradise Found is great and I have it in my stash, but I find it is a bit heavy on the hibiscus making it slightly tart, Pom Tango corrects that and replaces the tart with sweet.

Dry this blend has a nice aroma of Mango and Pomegranate and even the aroma smells sweet. There isn’t a whole bunch of color to make this an interesting tea to look at in the tin; however it does have big chunks of mango that let you know this tea means business. I should mention that with tea’s like this with big chunks of fruits and stuff I try to measure out a nice scoop of tea with out big pieces simply so I know I am getting a good helping of tea leaves in the mix.

Steeped this blend has a mango heavy aroma with a pomegranate undertone that is subtle yet present. The taste is a soft mango and pomegranate taste and is really packed full of flavor, this is actually one of the few teas I do not put any sugar in, simply because it is sweet enough and I think sugar would push it over the edge too much. Certainly one that has to be tried iced as well, something tells me it will be better iced.

My parents went to Halifax this week and brought me back DavidsTea’s Spring Collection as a gift for looking after the house while they were gone! I had already tried Daydreamer and Coconut Oolong (which I haven’t reviewed yet but if I had, it would be a giant keysmash and all in caps. It is SO good!) and I was pretty excited to try the rest.

I’m not that big of a fruity black tea fan but I like this one. It reminds me of Paradise Found but without the hibiscus, which was my only problem with Paradise Found. I can’t see this as something I’d have in the morning but it would be perfect for midday. This would probably taste amazing iced!

First steep: Boiling, 3 mins, no additives.
Second: 95 degrees, 3 mins, agave.

This came out better than the last time I made this at work. I think the water filter here heats the water to a hotter temperature and that makes a difference in this tea.
This tea really paired well with the Vietnamese food one of the drug reps brought us for lunch today. Mango is so yummy in drinks!

I might need more of this.

I’m a bit surprised, because I don’t like mango, but I think the bit of pomegranate tartness makes it more palatable for me. Maybe? Or else the blend of mango and black tea is good enough that I don’t care. Hah!

Either way, it’s definitely enjoyable. I had two cups hot and put the second steep in the fridge, and I have already sampled it cold. Yum. I am so looking forward to drinking that jar when I have a bit more time.

EDIT: I should also note that I got a sample of this tea (and the rest of the DavidsTea spring collection) thanks to the ever-wonderful Courtney, who is probably way too good to me! She is fantastic.

eh, it’s tolerable. It smells like a peach flavored tea, but apparently it’s mango and pomegranate. I can detect both when I drink it. It’s alright for what it is, not excessively sweet or artificial, but too fruity for me. Probably a good choice for fans of iced-tea (which I am not). Thanks for the sample Shadowfall :)
