Happy Christmas Eve to those celebrating! ❤

Wow, this is all blueberry! I am really impressed with the true blueberry, non-cloying or candy-like flavour. I will happily stock my cupboard with this one. :)

This is would be good if you’re into vanilla. The base is smooth and the vanilla is well balanced and at the forefront.

drank Taiwan Assam by The Tea Girl

2024 sipdown no. 80

This has that waffle sweetness typical of a Taiwanese black, that really comes out as the tea has cooled. The body is light-light/medium and the tea is fairly smooth overall. The real shock of this tea was with my second cup where I oversteeped by 4 minutes (face palm) and it was still perfect! I wasn’t expecting a lot since TG seems to specialise in flavoured teas, but I would happily order this one.

Thanks Cameron for all these awesome OBTC teas to try!

I tried brewing this at both 190° F and 200° F and the cardboard mineral taste took over the flavour, but when brewed at boiling I found it to be much more enjoyable.

The cream flavour isn’t subtle, but also not right at the forefront. The orange flavour is much more subtle. The cream comes off kind of ‘mouth-filling’ foam almost? I’m not sure of the best wording to describe this. The second steep is decent.

1st steep 3 minutes
2nd steep 4 minutes, 30 seconds

I ordered Tea, Toast & Jam online from the UK because these teas aren’t readily available here. But we ran for errands this evening and stumbled across this!

I went with a double teabag situation and decided to steep 2.5 minutes and I’m quite happy with the result. The base has some tannins, but I’ve made a point of drinking it still while quite warm as I find astringency creeps in with cooling. The base itself has some maltiness and there is a taste of biscuit! It’s hidden within the base (not at the forefront), yet very much there. Actually quite happy with this cuppa.

Thank you for sharing Cameron!

This tea is so perfume-y, it affected many others sent in this swap that I had to air out for some time.

Alas, it’s so scented that whatever taste may be there is drowned out, but when I really concentrate, I don’t pick up on any particular taste other than perhaps a perfume floral fruitiness? Perhaps this company should pivot into the perfume industry — at least with this tea XD. This is a share-down with a tea-inclined colleague!

drank Ormeti by Teaoria

This is a very pretty tea with bright red raspberry pieces throughout. I haven’t examined closely enough to find blackberry pieces, but I’m sure they’re there. The taste is slightly acidic, due to the berries. The tea itself gets a tad lost and the overall cup is a bit thin, but the quality of this blend is so high, it’s not bothersome.

drank Lavender Earl Grey by Chado

I brought this one into work and it’s been lovely. The lavender and bergamot are both at the forefront and the base is brisk, but not astringent. I think I’ve officially moved from being all about the EG cream, to a mix of EG and EG cream. I am definitely a bergamot lover now. I’ll miss this one when it’s gone.

This is a complex and lovely tea. It tastes like a forest, but not just fir, all the things that could be found in a boreal forest. There’s a natural sweetness that is really amazing, a definite taste of blueberry and the fir is very much present. The other ingredients serve to add layers and depth to the cup overall. I might pick up a bag of this one in my next CS order. Thanks for sharing Cameron!

Bio

I love black tea and this is usually what’s in my mug. I’m also happy to enjoy a cup of green or red rooibos, herbals, oolongs (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted), whites, and subtly flavoured greens.

Likes:
Raspberry, strawberry, peach, rhubarb, passionfruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it (Camellia Sinensis Earl Grey Cream is one of my favourites).

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan with an allergy to potatoes, so I avoid any animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I usually just pick them out of blends).
