From Stash Tea

For many years, Stash Earl Grey Tea has been a favorite of tea lovers. Many people seem to love the careful balance of citrusy oil of bergamot and the blend of fine black teas which our Earl Grey blend is famous for. Certain Earl Grey fanatics have grown especially fond of the top grade Calabrian oil of bergamot that we use and have asked for more, ..More,… MORE! Thus Stash Double Bergamot Earl Grey was born.

This is a great late afternoon or early evening tea. It goes very well with shortbread and cream scones. And for a uniquely appealing cold beverage, try Double Bergamot Earl Grey tea on ice.

Ingredients: blended black teas, bergamot extract
Steeping Instructions: 3-5 minutes at 190-209 degrees Fahrenheit
Caffeinated: Yes

My lovely coworker had this tea and I thought why not? There was a strong fruity smell when I opened the wee foil which did translate to the taste. I was fully expecting astringency and/or bitter but the base turned out to be incredibly smooth.

I’ve always heard good things about this one. I thought it might be overpowering since it’s double, but everyone speaks so highly of it that I still had high hopes. Turns out the hype is real! It’s not overdone at all, just a nice bergamot flavor. I’ll have to try this up against Stash’s regular Earl Grey to see how they compare.

I seem to be in an Earl Grey mood this week! This is one of my more recent finds through sipsby that I 100% adore. Delicious and easy to throw in my purse.

I’m not exactly sure why a box of this is in my cupboard… Probably I read a review on Steepster that piqued some curiousity combined with getting a Stash teabag coupon from my local grocery store.

I do like Earl Grey/bergamot, but tend to prefer EG’s or blends where the bergamot is a bit more subdued. The “Double Bergamot” claim was quite accurate, as this tea was a whallop of that sharp bergamot taste. The bergamot tasted on the grapefruit end to me, and was very sharp, tending toward sour to me. I wasn’t that big of a fan of a plain cuppa.

That said, I really love this particular EG as a mixer! It is great for lattes/London Fogs, iced Arnold Palmer, and in smoothies, since the strong bergamot flavor still “holds up” against the added milk, lemonade, or fruits.

I love sour. I love grapefruit. :D

I like tangy/sour (I mean, I’m the only hibiscus fan on this site, presumably!) but have never been a fan of grapefruits. Sometimes bergamot has more of a lemon-lime taste to me, sometimes more of a grapefruit taste to me… I tolerate the lemon-lime sort much better, and can do either with a softer touch.

Part of my Stash Assortment. I enjoyed the aggressive Bergamot flavor. Delightful way to start the day when I want to drink a black tea.

- with milk and a spoonful of honey -
One of my favorite Earl grey teas for use in Royal milk tea. The bergamot flavoring is very strong making it overwhelming to drink straight, but with milk and honey it’s like having dessert in a glass.

Double bergamot earl grey by stash.

I don’t usually drink bagged teas, but this is really yummy. Zesty like oranges, sweet and all around yummy. If you’re into tea bagged teas, I suggest you give this a go.

I was expecting this tea to be very strong and robust, and while the bergamot oil is certainly very present, the overall flavor of the tea was overpowered by it. I think if the bergamot had a stronger base to work with then this would have been a hit, but it just didn’t meet my expectations.

Bergamot heaven! This is real bergmot extract added to the earl grey tea, and for bagged tea, this is one of the BEST. I always try and have a box in my cupboard. So tasty with a splash of milk!

Or without a spash of milk! (It’s kimd of like asking for tea with lemon and milk)

Chey

It’s good with anything! The flavours are so good, with or without milk. It’s even good chilled in the summer. A few weeks ago I used the tea in baking sweets!

Never thought I’d find an earl grey I didn’t like, but every time I’ve tried this one(my brother likes it so it’s in our kitchen fairly regularly) it tastes horribly flat and smells like bathroom cleaner. Not a fan of Stash in general but this one is especially unpleasant.
