Rose Scented

I received a tin of this tea while suffering from a pretty painful migraine. I was worried that the rosiness would exacerbate my symptoms (as perfumed things tend to do) but brewed up a teapot of it anyway! It was so fragrant … my kitty sauntered across the house to inspect the new smell!

The aroma is lovely. Soft, not TOO perfumey, but considerably more sweet rosey in fragrance than Upton’s Rose Congou. The tea is medium-bodied and quite gentle, and the rose oil/petals compliment it well. Thankfully, the warmth and smoothness of it actually aided in some migraine relief (as well as the caffiene, I assume.)

As a lover of rose teas, this was quite enjoyable. I recommend it to anyone who loves perfumey rose scents & flavors, as well as a sweeter cup of tea. :)

Blech. This was one of the 3 teas I tried today in Harney Soho’s Valentine’s Day tea flight. I am not really a floral scent fan, so I was not really happy with this tea. The rose just doesn’t do it for me at all.

A rose flavored black tea. The dry leaves have a cool, raisin like smell, the rose tastes natural. Many rose black teas are rose first, black tea second, this one the black tea is main character. The base is a Chinese black and I think it is a decent one, probably a blend, the flavor is fruity and a little woody. Compare to Art of Tea’s Rose Black Tea the rose flavor is not as strong but that is not a flaw.

I loved this tea and have a 1 pound bag at home. I know there are better teas out there but I choose to view this one with rosey lens. (Ayyyy)

I wonder how many teas I’d care for less, if not for nostalgia. My grandmother had rose bushes growing up the side of her porch on a trellis when I was a kid — the dry leaf scent takes me back to standing in that pea-gravel driveway and stuffing my little nose into the petal pillows. Nostalgia can be tricky… but when tea trips it, I mostly just feel very lucky and very cozy.

The base is more assertive than I expected! Almost feels like the holidays, as the first sip gave me some baking spices, actually — I first thought cinnamon, but then it smoothed into more of a warming blend.

The rose is wonderful and so, so different than any florals I’ve found hiding out naturally in unflavored teas. I’m definitely down to poke around some more rosies after this example. Thank you for indulging me, ashmanra!

Nice, but I wish the rose flavor was more distinct. It tastes pleasant and generally floral, but I would’ve liked more rose.

I’ve been trying to drink down some of our older teas, but I just received my order from Harney & Sons and really wanted to try something new. I absolutely love floral/rose teas, and this one really hits the spot. The rose isn’t overpowering but is obviously present. It reminds me a lot of rose water. It’s just a comforting cup. I think floral teas do that for me, just give me all-over comfort and coziness. I’ll use a couple of teaspoons next time around, to bump the flavor, or maybe combine this with one of the straight teas I ordered. I saw a lot of combinations with this one when I added it to my cupboard.

Typically, I keep a rose black tea stocked in my cupboard. Also typically, I get one called Rose Congou from a local tea shop, but I had no plans to make the treck and get myself downtown, so I thought I would try this from Harney. This rose black is VERY strongly scented, very floral. It’s a yummy flavor, but it is not as full bodied as the one I am used to. The rose flavor almost borders on fruity, especially when iced, but it does not take away from the rosiness of the tea.
Lately, if I do not know what tea I want, or cant decide, I just reach for this. It also blends very well, I sometimes mix a pinch with some white tea, or to genmaicha for a floral/nutty balance. I very frequently mix this with fruity black teas.

I am really liking this cup this morning. The rose surrounds the palate with a delightful floral sweetness that isn’t overwhelming with the floral aspect. Yes, it is a tea that is supposed to probably be overpoweringly floral, but it’s nice—not too overwhelming.

However, as I keep sipping, I realize that the base is probably what mellows it out—giving it the perfect balance.

I’ve been working on a tin of this tea off and on for a little over 2 months, but I’m only now getting around to posting this review. To be honest, I knew that I would be posting a positive review of this tea, but couldn’t decide on a numerical rating to assign to it. Now that I have finally figured out how I would rate this tea, I can get on with the business of properly reviewing it.

I prepared this tea using a one step Western infusion process. I steeped 1 teaspoon of loose tea leaves in 8 ounces of 212 F water for 5 minutes. Obviously, no additional infusions were attempted.

Prior to infusion, this tea presented a lovely aroma of rose. To me, the scent seemed very natural and very fresh. In the mouth, this tea was all about the floral quality, with a big rose flavor present from the entry to the finish. After really trying to find some other flavors in this tea, I was just barely able to detect fleeting impressions of cream, toast, malt, and cocoa, but really, this tea was all about the aroma and flavor of rose.

I greatly enjoyed this tea. It was not deep, complex, or subtle, but it was very approachable and very easy to drink. Admittedly, it’s kind of a one-trick pony, but I think that is by design. This tea seems to exist to showcase the aroma and flavor of rose, and well, it does that brilliantly. Still, I do not think I would ever want to order another 4 ounce tin of it-I could see myself buying a sample or two instead. It does what it does very well, and I think that people who are extremely interested in floral blends would absolutely love it, but I am also not often in the mood for rose flavored blends. This is more something I would want to drink every now and then.

Yum! Rose is delicious! This is a lightly scented tea with elegant presentation. I think I like teavivre’s more since I enjoy the tea base more but if I hadn’t had that first this would probably be my favorite black rose tea. I wish I could go on with more of the flavors I picked up but I enjoyed a cup of this after having Korean food for lunch so everything tasted a little like garlic. :)
In any case, this is a great rose tea. Thanks for sharing Ashmanra! I’ll definitely try this again before garlic overload.
