From DAVIDsTEA

Baby, it’s cold outside

Got a blizzard on the way? Score! There’s no better excuse to cozy up inside with a great cup of tea. And this all natural chocolate-mint tisane is the perfect way to warm up on a chilly winter day. With peppermint, cacao nibs and dark chocolate drops, it’s sweet, creamy and oh-so comforting. The best part? Cute little snowflake-shaped sprinkles that add a touch of sweetness. Bring it on, winter!

Price per 50g: $7.98

I tried this one yesterday out of my David’s Tea Advent Calendar which I’ve been waiting weeks to start. I’m not a big chocolate mint fan but the tea was okay! I think if I liked chocolate mint I would love the tea! I usually steep my teas quite long (10-15 minutes) as I put it in my perfect steeper mug, cover it, & forget about it for a little while. I usually like my teas steeped more. I used the perfect scoop for one mug of tea.

I had the opportunity to taste this tea as day one of my David’s Tea advent calendar. My initial impression upon opening the tin was how strong the scent of peppermint and chocolate was. After brewing, the scent only intensified.

The tea itself was surprisingly mild in flavor. It had a nice, lingering finish of peppermint and chocolate that I found more appealing than the initial sip. Overall, the tea wasn’t strong enough for my taste but I think that was due to my own errors in brewing. I’m very new to the tea world so my intent with this advent calendar is to experiment with water/tea ratios and brewing times. There is enough tea left over to make a second batch so I will revise my opinion after another try.

Day 1 of the advent calendar. The tiny snowflakes are so cute. This tea smells very strongly of mint both dry and while steeping. It tastes like predominantly strong peppermint and the chocolate fades in to the background which is unfortunate. I enjoyed my cup but it’s not something I would want to drink a lot of or often. I won’t be purchasing this tea.

Day 1 of the 2016 Advent Calendar, finally! I am a bit surprised to see this one so early compared to last year, but I don’t mind at all. I know that apparently people just aren’t a fan of this tea but I remember liking it, so we’ll see how this year’s batch holds up. In terms of smell, it’s basically just mint chocolate as I would hope. It’s very similar to the Hershey’s candy cane kisses in my opinion.

Steeped, the color turns into a greenish brown and it smells much stronger of mint. The taste is… a bit different than what I had hoped for. It’s very much mint chocolate, but the mint tastes almost a bit off to me. The sip at first is so good, it’s exactly what I want from a wintery chocolate-mint tea, but the taste very quickly becomes strange, almost metallic and leafy? The later sips seem to lose their charm as well it seems.

Overall, this tea is a bit polarizing to me. I love the first sips of it, but very quickly the weird aftertaste just takes over and ruins it for me. It’s hard to say if I really like this tea, but ultimately I think it’s one that I’ll bench in favor of better mint chocolate blends.

Day One in my DAVID’s Tea Advent Calendar. This is the first year I’ve ever managed to snare one before they were gone! You can imagine how pleased I am to be able to open the first door.

So many people have given this tea a low rating that I was almost afraid to try it. It’s not as bad as I expected it to be. Nothing I’ll rush out and buy 50 grams of, but certainly drinkable. My first few sips were sort of meh. But the mint began to grow on me. It borders on toothpaste-ish, but the creamy chocolate helps mellow that out. I may have under leafed it, which is probably good.

I’m glad to have had a chance to try this one but I’m glad I don’t have a lot of it to finish off. :)

It’s hard for me to say whether I like this tea, as I am not usually a mint tea fan. But I am a chocolate tea fan. I love the look of the tea, with the little white snowflakes. I like that it is an herbal tea, and I like that I need minimal, if any sugar at all. I like that it takes milk well. I’m just not sure if I actually LIKE the tea. Part of me is compelled to keep making it, and part of me wants to steep this in milk and use it as the base for hot chocolate. Part of met feels it is too minty and too artificial with the chocolate…artificial tasting has been a theme of a lot of the flavoured blends from Davids lately.

So I don’t know, do I like it? I’ll definitely finish my sample. Will I buy more? Who is to say…

Michelle

I didn’t like this blend, it was way too minty for me.
But I heard others say its really good mixed in with the Hot Chocolate tea.

J’aime la menthe, j’aime le chocolat, mais malheureusement, j’aime plus ou moins ce thé… Je l’ai essayé nature et latté (avec lait au chocolat). C’est buvable, mais sans plus. Je ne rachèterai pas de ce thé

I loved loved loved Snow Day!

It combines two of my favorite things: peppermint and chocolate!

Now I’ve had some not so good peppermint and chocolate teas in the past, but I was really hoping the DAVIDsTEA version wouldn’t let me down…

It’s safe to say it didn’t!

Even if you’re not a huge fan of mint and or chocolate based teas, you have to admit that this tea at least LOOKS really nice… peppermint leaves, chocolate pieces, WHITE chocolate pieces, and white sugar snowflakes?!?!

It does have a fairly noticeable smell of peppermint when you sniff it for the first time. Once brewed it also has a dominant peppermint taste with the chocolate more of an aftertaste. If you’re not a peppermint fan then you may not like this tea, as it may be a bit more mint heavy then you’d like. But for a peppermint freak like me I did not mind it one bit.

It’s also a sweet tea but it’s not overly sweet. You can add in you choice of sweetener but I found it sweet enough just on it’s own.

I found Snow Day to be a delicious and comforting tea and give it two snowflakes!

My daughter just gave me some of this with the caveat that I have to wait for her to be here with me to drink it. I can’t wait!

Beatrice

Hope you both enjoy it as much as I did!
