A very nice, solid oolong. I grabbed a sample bag of this with my last order and was very impressed with the flavor of this tea.

I just brewed a pot of this, added a teaspoon of rock sugar, and it is currently cooling in the fridge. I look forward to tasting this because it’s been very very hot in DC, and after a morning of berry picking all I wanted was some iced tea.

I had a cup before it was done chilling and I like this a lot. I think it would be marvelous as an iced tea.

Delightful. This has all the good things I like about Earl Grey in a lighter form. I love this.

It’s as hot as the devil’s armpit right now outside (NO, REALLY) and a bottle of this from the deli downstairs was extremely welcome and refreshing. Cold, slightly sweetened, and tasted subtly of blueberries. Perfect for the days when it’s so hot and muggy it feels like you’re drowning just by walking outside and taking a breath.

drank Japanese Sencha by Harney & Sons

Yet another free sample with my order. I can’t remember if I’ve ever had Sencha before. It’s delightful. Grassy tasting, but in a fresh way (not a “just mowed the lawn and now I’m dying of allergies” way). I accidentally oversteeped this (okay, not completely accidentally – after 3 minutes the water was barely colored so I left it in) but I like my tea strong and I’m okay with some slight bitterness.

I like bancha better, but this is still a good solid green tea.

I got a bag of this as a sample with my last order and decided to make this my morning tea today. First, I snipped open the little pyramid bag and dumped the tea into my metal strainer because I just learned those bags are made of nylon and the though of dumping plastic into very hot water I would be drinking squicked me out.

I’m not as big of a fan of strong black teas as I used to be, but this is still a very nice tea. It’s definitely stronger than I’m used to these days, after switching to greens and oolongs, but it was exactly what I needed after one too many nights of staying up too late playing computer games (DARN YOU STEAM SUMMER SALE), and then being woken up too early by hungry felines.

This tea should get a few cups out of one spoonful.

When I opened the bag, I took a deep inhale. It smelled delicious. Tea with cinnamon and other spices, light enough to be enjoyable, not strong enough to make me want to vomit. I eagerly brewed this. Two teaspoons was too much for a cup. This stuff (like Thor) is STRONG. I’ll cut back to one teaspoon next time.

Delicious stuff. The best thing I liked about this was that despite all the spices and flavors, it still tasted like tea. The other flavors are all undertones and weave delicately around the tea flavor – which remains predominant.

Pleasantly surprised after my awful experience with the other bagged tea EnjoyingTea sent with my order. (Seriously, pass on their bagged oolong. Just say no.) This isn’t as good as the loose stuff (what is) but it’s decent and didn’t make me immediately dump the entire mug of tea down the drain, so it gets props for that.

I can actually taste the chrysanthemum. It’s not as fresh as the loose Chrysanthemum tea I have in the cupboard (see 2nd paren note in paragraph above) but it’s pretty decent if you don’t have the means to brew the loose stuff. I can see being offered a cup of this in a B-string Chinese restaurant and not thinking the quality was awful.

Thanks, EnjoyingTea, for the free sample. This came in the cutest wee li’l tea tin. And I greatly appreciated the amount of free tea stuffed into it. I imagine I can get at least 10 cups in if I’m careful.

This is delicious. The leaves smell nice, a fresh almost-nutty scent. I steeped a tiny scoop of this and left it in for a while. The flavor is nice and strong. Distinctively “oolong” but without any fruity aftertaste like some others have. Instead, it tastes almost-smoky and just toys with turning bitter but never does. YUM.

First thought upon opening the bag: Oh god this SMELLS. It was overpoweringly strong to the point I wanted to gag.

Steeping it now… 2 teaspoons.

I was pleasantly surprised by the taste because I didn’t want to immediately spit it out. I was expecting something truly horrifically over-flavored given the heavy scent. It’s drinkable – barely – though why I would want to is a whole other question. I can’t concentrate on the flavor too much. The flavors just do not work together for me, and the tea feels faintly oily in my mouth, which isn’t terribly surprising given how heavily scented it was.

Dear self: You don’t need to prove your Browncoat cred by buying and drinking tea. Just rewatch the entire series a few more times. You don’t have all of The Hero of Canton lyrics memorized yet.

Bio

I’m a tea-aholic. I’ve always loved tea. It is soothing and warm and comforting. I always had it when we went out to eat as a child so my first association is with rich and delicious food.

As an adult, I’m learning to enjoy tea on its own merits, and bask in its subtleties and varieties. The ritual of making a cup of tea is instantly relaxing.

I prefer oolong and white teas, followed by greens. For the most part, I don’t like straight black tea, but appreciate it as part of a blend or flavored. I’ve learned to love the world of flavored teas out there.

I’m slowly learning to appreciate rooibos blends, which I started drinking for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Love: Oolong, almond, coconut, peach
Hate: Ginger
