761 Tasting Notes

I’m not sure I am qualified to make a proper tasting note on this today, because I have that sour taste in my mouth from the beef pho that I made last night…I had the rest today, since I am still working on rehydration, as I need some blood work done in the next few days, and I need my blood vessels nice and plump instead of being prodded and poked and told to go home and come back later when I was not dehydrated….and I feel like I’ve felt unwell the last few days due to a mild stomach virus and minor dehydration.

Anyway, on to this tea. I made this one today because I woke up with a terrible headache today, and I went back to sleep and only got up when my husband phoned to tell me that he was gifted an Apple Watch by our friend who he is with (and supporting/working with) at the Edmonton Fringe. For some reasons, I like simple and uncomplicated black teas when I have headaches. I was not 100% sure what to expect because I didn’t really read much to the notes on this one, but only that it was DeleriumsFrog’s favourite Harney & Sons Tea (as she noted on the baggie.

Did this do the trick? I think so, but it is hard to get a true feel of this tea because of the lingering sour taste I have in my mouth from the pho from earlier. I’ll have to try this again when I have a clearer head and palate again.

Backlog from yesterday:

So very glad to have a second chance at this tea! Thanks DeleriumsFrog for including this in the package you sent me. I’ve had this one before, but I used the whole sample, and it was too bitter and strong. I gaged that there were about 4 rounded teaspoons in the bag, so if I had used the full tablespoon as directed, I would, once again, run the risk of having too much for one steep—and not enough for the second. It is possible I may have mis-measured, as I woke up still feeling a bit sick, but I scoured the reviews here and decided to go with 2 tsp for my steep…and I am glad I did!

This time the tea was more mellow, and while the espresso was the dominant note, the cantaloupe was lightly present, in more of a lingering juicy taste. I made two steeps of this hot, and a third cold steeped, but I think I’d steeped all the flavour out by then.

I am grateful for the chance to try this one again. I do like the flavours very much!

Another one from my super sweet package from DeleriumsFrog today…I will say that this may be my fave pumpkin tea from Stacy, and I was shocked to see it was a pu er base. Say what?! There was lovely cream, but it was not the same as the pumpkin milkshake…this was much richer, perhaps from the pu er base…I dunno. I do know that this was a single serving, so I am sure that this was the last of the tea that was sent, and I feel honored that I got to try this. Bittersweet that I only had one serving, but I did get a second steep out of it, so that helps. So thank you, thank you!

drank Lime Marshmallow by Butiki Teas
761 tasting notes

Yessssss!!!!! I love this tea! This is one I was very close to getting, but ended up not getting at the very last minute, so I am super glad that this was one of the teas that Deleriums Frog sent me in our tea swap recently!

I do like lime flavoured items, though not straight lime so much, unless it is lime juice squeezed on a fish taco or something where it enhances the dish. Sweet and creamy desserty lime…sign me up! I like Lime Gelato David’s Tea and Lime Chiffon from Della Terra, so I felt I would like this too.

Right away after the initial steep, I put the filter basket with steeped leaves right into my mason jar mug and initiated a cold steep for later. I knew I wanted to try to get a second steep from the leaves, so I thought cold steep might work. I ’m having the hot steep now, though.

The dominant taste, as others have already noted, is lime. It’s not a super tart or sour lime, but it’s also not a weak lime either. The marshmallow adds a nice sweet and creamy note that is, as some have said already, a bit like candy. I’d also say it is not that far off from those lemon/lime cookies with the powder sugar that melts in your mouth. I can’t taste the base that much, but I can sense it, but I’m actually fine with this, as I like the base stepping aside to let the stronger flavours take the spotlight.

This tea is a win, and I wish I had more. There is enough for another serving, and hopefully 2-3 steeps with that. Once again, I am so happy to try this from the swap with DF.

drank Swampwater by DAVIDsTEA

Cold brew, and in this mason jar I have been using to cold brew teas, the murky green colour shines through…truly swamp water. I have just another few servings of this left, and once it is gone, I can only hope that DT will bring it back on occasion to stock up on more…

I’m not sure if I am allured to this tea by the murky colour, the black cat candies, or the strawberry guava green rooibos blend…but I sure am a fan of it. I’m trying to be gracious when I have this, and get as much out of the serving as possible, as I know one day it will be gone. :(

drank Tamarind Gui Fei by Butiki Teas
761 tasting notes

One of the saddest sip downs ever, though I did get two steeps out of this last serving…one hot that I took to go, and one cold steeped while I was out.

This is truly one of my most favourite teas of all time, and it will be sorely missed, for the rest of my life. I’m eternally grateful that I was able to try this and the predecessor Tamarind Pop! Thanks, Stacy, for such a lovely tea.

Sinus issues this morning called for a chai, so I brought this one out. I do still like it but I feel like this batch is not as good as my original. I feel like the chocolate is less pronounced. Still, I do like the coconut aspect to the chai, and it is still quite tasty. I’ll have no issues finishing the bag.

drank Banana Split by DAVIDsTEA
761 tasting notes

So, I actually had this when it first came out, and I was negligent on writing a tasting note. I had it as an iced latte, and I went back the same day for another one, only iced with milk rather than a latte (which actually was not as good). I had it again recently, enjoyed it, and decided to make it my FS redemption. It’s not the most expensive tea to get my money’s worth, but I feel like I’ll use the 50g and then probably get tired of it by the time the bag is done. That said, I had it as an iced latte again today, at home (via cold steep in mason jar) and using more leaf will mean the bag is finished sooner.

I love the banana and chocolate taste of this one. And, even though it does have a bit of that weird artificial taste, I can handle it in this blend. Almost as good as the banana and chocolate flavour is that it is 1) caffeine free and 2) a green rooibos, which I can totally do! Really looking forward to more steeps with this one. Like I said, I may be sick of it by the time the bag is done, but at least it was a free bag. :)

Backlog: Used the rest of this sample pack for a cold brew. It was light and creamy, and a little sweet. It was refreshing, as the day I had it was quite warm.

Backlog…had this recently with milk and sugar. It’s a nice one. I needed comfort the day I had it, and I got it. Maybe not as comforting as Creme Brûlée or Divine Temptation from Bayswater, but still pretty comparable.

I generally like a lot of tea. I do find I have a preference for flavored over unflavoured, but I do love a good straight tea as well.

Likes are too hard, since there are a lot. Dislikes are easier, so here they are…

Hibiscus. Blech. I can tolerate a little, depending on the brew, like Berry Good from Davids and Ruby Pie from Butiki…but in general, it’s too tart and too strong for me.

Licorice. Anything that remotely resembles licorice is out too, so that includes fennel and anise. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Florals. I’m cool with petals in the tea to make them look pretty (except rose), and I’m cool with teas like oolongs having a floral note, but strong florals can give me migraines. Rose and jasmine are the biggest offenders. This is one where it can vary on the blend, as I can handle Teavivre’s Peach Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea because there is very little jasmine actually detectable in it.

Rooibos is hit or miss. I can do some, but not others. I handle green better than red, and honeybush better than rooibos.

My ratings don’t have a particular scale or method, and may on occasion contradict themselves, but I’m honestly not fussed about that. Sometimes I don’t even rate at all.

Um, I have an extensive wishlist. It is both a list of things I want to get again, and things I want to try. If you are sending me something, and you want to know which is which, I’ll tell you via PM.

Yes, I do trades…usually on request though. See something you want to try in my cupboard? Just shoot me a message and I’ll see what I can do!

Uh, guess that’s it.
