Sipdown! Finished off the last of my sample from KiwiDelight today.
This tea is very bananas and a little nutty (heh, I made a pun and I didn’t even mean to). Still not sure why they call it ‘Mudslide’ since that makes me think of Kahlua, Bailey’s, and cream (none of which taste like this tea), but it’s tasty!
See previous tasting notes for details.
Preparation
Thanks, KiwiDelight, for this one!
Dry leaf smell: Whoa, that’s bananas! The steeped smell is much mellower & that signature rooibos aroma takes the forefront.
Tried the first half of the cup without any additives. With small sips, the banana flavor is prominent. Mmm, like over-ripe bananas or home baked banana bread. When I took a big sip, I didn’t pick-up on it as much, though. I’m odd like that, sometimes.
Read the other reviews and decided to add some rock sugar (2 little pieces) for the second half. Wow, now it really tastes like bananas! And there’s a chocolate taste at the end of the sip. Reminds me more of a chocolate-covered frozen banana than a mudslide… But that’s a good thing b/c it’s quite delicious!
Preparation
SIPDOWN! This is a weird tea. I feel like i’m sipping on a cup of sweetened veggies, something like carrots and spinach. I think i’d actually prefer it sans sugar since it’s the sweetness that’s throwing me off.
I used about 12oz of water and steeped this a little longer than 5 mins. I don’t feel the need to buy this again ever, but i don’t dislike this. I just don’t tend to prefer green teas. Interesting to say the least.
(on a random other note…the name of this and the way it looks, totally took me off on a tangent imagining this as a little plant monster that explodes out of it’s ball state screaming it’s name JIAOGULAN!)
Preparation
Lol my other half says when we have kids, they are totally going to look at the world in a way that no one else does thanks to me. Me? I just never want to grow up!
This is the other tea I got from KiwiDelight, because after I got some from Mitch, I couldn’t resist another attempt.
This tea is quite delicious, banana-y and chocolate-y, but not overly sweet and also not medicinal-rooibos-y. I am just having my third infusion now, and I’m a fan. I haven’t tried too many Teavana teas, but so far, I am enjoying their caffeine-free selections.
Preparation
Mitch sent me a generous sample of this, since I am always interested in trying new rooibos teas that maybe don’t taste medicinal.
This one is really good! I love chocolate and banana, but I am not a huge fan of chocolate in general, and this has a nice balance. The nuts are perfect, too. I added a bit of Forever Nuts for my third steep, and it was fantastic.
I am so glad I got to try this! Thanks, Mitch!
Preparation
Amanda was so very nice in sending me a lovely package of teas. Really really appreciate it! thanks so much This one she happened to notice was on my shopping list (though really my shopping list is for anything that looks tasty to me… not teas I’m actually definitely going to buy.) This one sounded intriguing… and it is! It DOES taste like a baked apple pie! The ingredients make it taste very buttery pastry like… I don’t know what the oolong is like on its own, but it certainly helps the flavor. And the apple here is perfect. Sometimes apple can be wrong in a tea, but this one doesn’t have any of that odd chemical flavor. It’s a nice sweet authentic apple. The second steep is more of the same. Really love this one! I just realized I hardly have any flavored oolongs!!

SIPDOWN!
i wish i could drink this. I had a sip of it and it was tasty because i’m not a hibiscus hater but oh. my. god. the aroma of this tea seeped reminds me of walking in to a bath shop…like LUSH…where all i do is sneeze and want to get the hell out of there (sorry LUSH lovers!). The taste does not compute with the aroma of this one and my head can’t get past it. Thanks to kittenna for this sample.
i think my nose is different than your nose. this doesn’t smell like any sangria that i’ve ever had…and uh this one time, i had a lot. back in my wild crazy hay days. is it hey days? like heeeeeeyyyy yo? or hay is for horses day. who knows. crap i’m totally rambling.
Yes, high probability of different noses :P It does smell like some sangria I’ve had, which is why I purchased it in the first place. The hibiscus just ruined it for me.
And I’m pretty sure it’s heyday :)
SIpdown! and i’m not sure if i got this from kittenna or indigobloom either way this totally reminds me of tim horton’s peach drink. I’m not getting that oolong taste in this so i’m ok with it…since well, artificial peach drink is one of my guilty gross pleasures haha
This was a nice floral and fruity blend. It has some similarities to Davids Three wishes, but three wishes for some reason always reminds me of watermelon and summer whereas this one has a spicier floral element that makes the tea seem a bit more sophisticated and year round to me. The sencha and floral blend create a fragrance that does smell like cut warmed peaches mixed with a spicy floral from the roses. The top notes were a mix of fruit and sweet vegetal notes form the sencha followed by a mix of floral spice (rose and almost a lavender note) and a mild bitterness. The base is astringent, not horribly so, but enough that one notices. The aftertaste is of floral spice with a hint of sweetness. This tea rebrewed fairly decently.
There seems to be a various companies that carry very similar or perhaps the same blend, so if I crave this style of tea again I should be able to find it.Teavana now sells this tea. I had to buy two more ounces after I saw they put it back on the website months after they removed it (also, free shipping!).
The dry leaf looks pretty: the rooibos is browned because of the chocolate, of which there are tiny pieces, and there are rather large pieces of banana walnut. The aroma smells strongly of banana and chocolate. Even though I can tell that some flavoring was added, I love it! This is one tea I love smelling from the tin every time I brew a cup. The liquor is dark red. The flavor is medium-bodied. I can’t taste the rooibos (or the nuts, come to think of it); the chocolate and banana notes overshadow the base, but this is OK by me. In general, I love the combination of banana and chocolate. This is a delicious chocolate-banana tea. Perfect for dessert.
Preparation
Nutty and roasted smelling when I pour it into my cup.
I’m giving this one a “meh” grade. It’s just sort of there. I can taste/feel what seems to me like coco powder in my mouth. Caramel is lacking along with a real chocolatey flavor. I guess since Teaopia is no more I don’t have to worry about ordering more, but this one just wasn’t for me.
Preparation
Second steep is still delightful. This is a great tea, I’m really enjoying it while I cough on my couch and watch Mulan. Haha! It reminds me of cinnamon hearts, which are my favorite candy ever. Win.
Also, I introduced a friend to loose leaf tea last night, and she texted me already this morning saying that she’s craving tea for breakfast. Success!
