Another tea from kimquat! I’m not sure how i feel about this tea. It was a pleasant enough cup to drink but was it carrot cake? not really. I mean it had that vaguely cheesecakey icing sweetness feel to it, and the dry smell was really nice..but i wouldn’t call this carrot cake. So good cup of tea..but not carrot cake! lol thanks for sharing kimquat!

Horribly disappointing in a cough syrup sort of way.

drank Apricot Afternoon by Tea Guys

Apricot aroma is pleasant. The tin is pretty and bits of fruit and flowers in the loose tea add to the overall aesthetic. Does make a nice addition to my afternoon choices but not one I could drink every day.

Sipdown (118)!

Thank you TheLastDodo for the sample! Definitely not my usual jam; not too big on lemongrass, ginger or green tea. But I gave it a shot, and I did my best to be as open minded as I could be!

I cold brewed most of the sample; I was impressed with the smell of the dry leaf actually – it smelled surprisingly like really sweet, fresh squeezed lemonade! No noticeable ginger. The taste, however, wasn’t quite as good. It definitely wasn’t bad – and like in the smell, I couldn’t taste ginger at all despite seeing several sizable pieces in what I had measured out for the brew. That was a plus for me. The lemon was intense though; and while some sips tasting a little more like natural, sweet and tart lemon flavour most of it tasted just like lemongrass – which I’m really fickle towards. Not really sure why. It’s just… different and weird.

The base itself was ok; definitely grassy but for what’s in the blend it works well and comes together pretty seamlessly. It definitely wasn’t the problem with this blend, for me that is.

Thanks again TheLastDodo – it was pretty average overall with definites negatives and positives. I was more than ok with passing the rest of my sample along to a coworker though.

drank Root Beer Rooibos by Tea Guys
59 tasting notes

I received this tea as a free sample from Tea Guys. Overall it’s a mild flavored tea. It grew on me the more I drank, but I’m not sure I’d drink this on a regular basis. Sassafras is the strongest flavor that comes through, but it’s a well-balanced blend overall. That’s impressive considering root beer is a difficult blend to do well. It seems like it would make for a good afternoon tea and might appeal to people who prefer coffee and/or soda over tea.

This is a pleasant enough evening tea— I like the full flavor, flavor and mouthfeel remind me a little of a black breakfast tea. Unfortunately, I am not noticing much of any caramel, sea salt, or molasses. IF you like very subtle flavored tea, this tea might be for you.

Yum, yum, yummmmm…. I am definitely going to order some more of this. Similar spices to eggnog but starts off with a lovely maple flavor and then salt and butter take the forefront as the tea cools. Undercurrent of bourbon throughout. Highly recommend with a little cream.

Resteep was just as good. Malty, full-bodied, and no caffeine. :):):)

Flavors: Butter, Maple, Salt

Really? You’re making me go first??? Awww man. I hate being first!

Oh well! This tea was one of many samples I ordered back during Tea Guys’ Christmas/New Year’s sale thingy. I taste the toffee as a sort of caramelized sweetness and the hazelnut is kind of in the background. The chocolate part doesn’t really seem like chocolate to me, although I do get some kind of roasty dark note that could be coming from that. I liked it, but this didn’t exactly live up to my expectations of a rich dessert tea. It probably would with a little sugar and cream though.

drank Key Lime Ceylon by Tea Guys

This smells great. The wet leaves – ah, I can sniff and dream of pie. A sweet lime scent. The taste is definitely that dry key lime taste. I’m going to use my samples, but I won’t get more. It’s perfectly fine, but I think I prefer my key limes mixed with cream cheese or in a pie rather than in my tea. :)

Took this on the semi-short drive to Boulder today. I saved up my pennies and splurged on a lovely B&B for Valentine’s Day with my man. In fact, I am typing this up while sitting on the lovely balcony and sipping on a mug of this!

I chose this particular BnB specifically for it’s emphasis on it’s tea. A tea BnB you say? I am in tea nerd heaven :D they have a 24hr tea service and lovely tea trays to borrow during use. I am already missing my stash at home, but seeing as they a) make their own herbal blends and b) have Rishi tea and athentic branded Japanese greens, I was instantly sold! I will have to post a pic of their tea wall in a sec.

On to this tea! It’s so sweet and maple-y. I do get the slightest bit of dryness in this from the type of black, but it’s minor. I get an almond-malty taste in addition to the candy sweet maple flavor. Sometimes I like to use the slightest hint of maple syrup in certain Assam teas and this blend pretty much does it for me! I know this would be great with some almond milk splashed in. I almost wish I had gotten more than a sample!

Super Sample Sipdown Weekend! February 2015

This was one of the samples I ordered in my big Tea Guys orders. I was not impressed with this tea at all. Hot, it was grassy and mildly fruity-sweet. Cold brewed left the grossness behind and brought a sweeter floral and candied pineapple flavor. It was so very meh. The flavors did not stand out and nothing about this tea made any sort of impression on me. Eh, at least I was able to try it.

Flavors: Floral, Grass, Pineapple

Preparation
Iced

Wow, this tea is so chocolate that they aren’t kidding. It is the PERFECT tea for a mocha tea latte if you are inclined for that – it tastes like tea and chocolate syrup almost. Just like a coffee mocha but without the coffee taste, or a mocha frappe without the ice. Very excellent.

Flavors: Chocolate

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 5 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 6 OZ / 177 ML

I got this as a sample with my rooibos order and decided to try it today. I love that there are corn pieces, and little popcorns, and caramel balls in the tea, and the dry leaf did smell like caramel popcorn. Once steeped, though, I could tell that the black base wasn’t really going to do it for me. It really reminded me of Adagio’s black base, and for some reason, I have trouble liking it (I have no idea why, because I know some people love it)… So, I’m sure if you like Adagio teas and you like caramel popcorn, then this tea is going to be awesome for you. It just was not for me.
Their rooibos, though…now, that’s something I can get behind. :)

adagio black base is yuck

I smell more fig than apple but both flavors come through pretty strongly. Sweet but not sweetened. I think I prefer Summer Cherry Fig from Capital Teas. All of this sample will be used, but I probably wouldn’t replace it.

Okay, don’t care for this much. It’s a cup that I can drink all of, but isn’t anything I’ll choose. The scent is offputting. It smells like every cheap flavored black blend with vanilla out there. I’m not saying this isn’t a quality tea – I really am not a good judge of that generally with flavored teas. Just that it smells like that.

I don’t get coconut or almond distinctly. Overly vanilla but not in a good way. Ah, well. It’s a sample size and it was on sale. Try. All .The. Teas. Right? :)

My computer is being stupid and is pissing me off. This is the fourth time I have tried to write this stupid review! I will have to write a proper one this after noon.

I liked this tea. I might buy it again.

Wee! Thank you Nichole for sending this to me!! I’m kind of a hit or miss with chamomile teas – but this flavour just called to me! The tea in the bag smells like honey, not in an overpowering way but in a sweet way. I over steeped this one by quite a bit while I was cooking myself a grilled cheese, but the tea tastes like honey too! I actually don’t really get any vanilla taste from this… which seems odd but I like it anyway! Should be named Chamomile Honey maybe? Haha

drank Coconut Truffle by Tea Guys

Another 5 am conference call, another chance to stay at home in my pajamas and drink tea samples while pretending to pay attention to people all over the world for a couple of hours before going into work… I don’t know what I enjoy more… being able to stay in my pajamas for a couple of extra hours in the morning or drinking as many delicious teas as I possibly can for a couple of hours to help keep my eyes open.

This initially started out tasting a little bit like a chai tea (I think it may have been a case of cross contamination) but as it cooled a little, it took on a serious toasted coconut taste similar to a coconut rough or a toasted coconut cream pie. There was a chocolate scent but I didn’t get much of this flavor from the tea when sipping. Big thanks again to Inkling for sharing!!!
