From Tea Guys

A delicious and decadent treat of South African rooibos paired with chewy caramel, toasted sweet brown rice, and sea salt to draw out the rich, smoky tones in the rooibos and caramels. A perfect balance of sweet and salty. To be enjoyed straight or with a splash of cream and sugar.

Ingredients: rooibos, toasted rice, caramel, flavors, buckwheat (does not contain wheat), toffee bits, vanilla, sea salt, citric acid.

Mastress Alita’s Monthly Sipdown Challenge
April 2022 → A caramel tea

Having a cup of this before passing it along in the TTB. There are bits of what I assume are caramel in the dry mix, so I plucked one out and ate it. It had a crumbly texture, almost like pressed brown sugar, and tasted as though it had a fine salt coating. Once steeped, I didn’t notice much of the expected flavors and so found this to be pretty underwhelming. Hopefully someone else will enjoy this much more than I have.

Shae Advent Day 14

This tea has been on my wishlist for several years, so it was really exciting seeing it this morning! Once I opened it, the scent was definitely that of a more medicinal, less pleasant rooibos. Unfortunately, that was the flavor as well. I don’t get caramel, sea salt, or molasses. I only get rooibos, and not a very tasty variety, which is sad to say because I’m a huge rooibos fan generally. With milk and sugar, it’s totally drinkable, just plain and sadly not my favorite sort of rooibos. I’ve had a pumpkin rooibos from this company that was amazing, so this is probably just an anomaly!

Shae

Bummer, I was excited about this one. It’s been on my wishlist for a bit too.

I think I might be able to finally call my mission for the perfect caramel tea a success!
This has a nice mellow caramel flavor to it which is much stronger in the smell than in the taste. It also has an interesting… baked good taste and texture in my mouth (possibly from the buckwheat?) and tastes almost like a caramel muffin/cupcake. I wish there was a liiiittle bit more salt but other than that it’s pretty spot on, a wonderful afternoon cuppa.

This is a pleasant enough evening tea— I like the full flavor, flavor and mouthfeel remind me a little of a black breakfast tea. Unfortunately, I am not noticing much of any caramel, sea salt, or molasses. IF you like very subtle flavored tea, this tea might be for you.

This is my second rooibos from Tea Guys, and I’ve gotta say, I’m liking their rooibos.
Upon opening the bag, I was hit with a most definite sea salt caramel thing… there are nuggets (mine are round, not square like the picture) of caramel mixed in, and I’m a sucker for that… When I’m going for a flavoured tea, I love when I can SEE a bit of what’s going into that flavour. These aren’t little nuggets, either.. They’re pretty substantial for a tea. It’s great!
I might like this one even better than the bourbon egg nog one last night, because this one isn’t as sweet on it’s own. Being in control of the level of sweetness (if any at all, even), is something I really do appreciate, and this tea totally hands that control over to the sipper.
I know that I could add sugar to this right now and amp up that caramel taste, but I’m enjoying this with a little cream at the moment… The scent is very caramel-y, while the sip is a little more subdued… It’s really nice, actually.
I can see myself craving this as a night-time treat

ETA: halfway through this cup, I added just a sprinkle of raw sugar. Oh, man, is it good! This is a super yummy rooibos, and I’m really glad I grabbed 3oz of this. :)
