Capital Teas

This came as a sample in my Capital Teas order. The lemon is STRONG in this one. I don’t drink many herbal teas, but I’m thinking of keeping this on hand for whenever I need a lemon fix.

This is from the GCTTB (I think) and I had taken a tsp sample to try at a later date. I brewed it today cold and really enjoyed the pot.

Typical jade oolong taste, buttery, vegetal (soybean, bok choy). I wouldn’t say it is as milky as I prefer, but it made a nice afternoon cup.

I really want to like this tea, since Capital Teas only sells it in one pound amounts (very shrewd, CT, very shrewd). Despite their claim that this is a best seller, I find it insipid. Not much almond flavor to it, a little too much cinnamon, and apple from the apple pieces. I’ve been desperately trying to get through it, since I’ve got so much of it. Not sure what made me buy it – I think I really liked the sample and smell of it when I tried it at the NYC Coffee & Tea Festival a couple of years ago, but I’ve been struggling with it ever since. A little better hot rather than iced , but not by much. Strangely, there’s a little bit of viscosity to the brew that I find off-putting (hot or iced). Lesson learned – never buy a pound of ANY tea unless it’s something you drink all the time.

Nice fall dessert tea. Not quite as “pumpkin-y” as i had hoped, but still pleasant & warming.

Not bad. Didn’t really get a big variety of flavors, but I only had a tiny free sample. Pleasant enough though, I’m sure.

A little more appley than I expected, didn’t really get much caramel. Almost more like an apple cider. People who love dried apples would love this one.

Delicious! Granted, my first pu-erh, but I think I may have found the perfect fall-ish caramel black tea! I just tried a sample that I received with a paid order, but I will definitely be ordering by 1/2 pound next time.

This is a solid and acceptable daily green. it is reasonably sweet and satisfying. nothing special, just solid consistent green. For those who quaff green all day every day, you can do alot worse than this!

Simple Oolong with less tannins than you would normally expect. Adding this “milk” aspect to Oolongs has become common but difficult to get right.

Strong hints of peppermint in the tea and was quite good. Recommended!

I got this in the May TeaLove box and was pleasantly surprised at how much I like it. I keep reaching for it every morning. Will probably reorder when I run out.

The aroma and taste of this one makes my soul smile!! Absolutely love it!! What an incredible way to start the day!!!

My son and I had this together this evening. He’s turning into quite the tea fan!

I enjoyed this one. I love the flat, dried leaves—they remind me of small feathers or dried, pressed flowers! The tea itself has a familiar, vegetal taste to it. Slightly bitter, but I think that is from steeping it longer than I should’ve. I did 4 grams for 12 oz of water and steeped for almost three minutes. I should’ve steeped for a shorter time.

The flavor is typical for other green teas I’ve had and comes through very clearly. I didn’t notice any additional flavors beyond the vegetal nature of the tea. Based on the product’s description when I bought it, I was expecting a chestnut flavor as well but didn’t find it. The liquor has a golden yellow hue. This will be a good one to have during the hot summer months coming up.

I found it refreshing and enjoyed it!

It smells very minty, and when brewed the mint and licorice root blend together wonderfully!! I let the leaves sit in my travel mug for awhile to brew (not exactly sure for how long), and the more the leaves steeped the better the tea got imo!!

It tastes very mellow, and is a good tea to drink while busy because as it cools the flavors are enhanced (in my opinion)! It’s not the cheapest tea, but a little tea goes a long way with this blend!

Got this as a recent sample. It is very reminiscent of David’s Forever Nuts, but Forever Nuts just seems a little stronger, a little more all around apple-cinnamon-buttery. Still good, but you know, not seeing anything here that would make me want to switch from the original.

Tried this again today and found the rose flavor overpowering. It even gave me a headache. Decided that I just can’t do this one anymore. :(

Did some yard work today and all the flowering trees inspired me to finally try this tea I purchased a few weeks ago. The bergamot is a bit overpowering but compliments the flavor of the rose petals well — a good combination. I was surprised by the creamy flavor hidden behind the bergamot as well — I wasn’t expecting that. It’s slightly bitter, but that could be my own fault — I’ll try a shorter steep next time.

Overall, it is pretty good, but not something I’ll have regularly. It’s a good evening tea, even though it is caffeinated. The flavor reminds me of a spring evening so it is perfect for tonight.

Today was a sipdown of this one, sadly. It has become one of my favorites in the past few weeks.

I knew I was getting low but I saved just one final serving until I thought I was going to have something similar on my shelf. I saw that my order of a similar tea had shipped and was finally in my state, so I decided to have the last of this tea this morning.

After I finished the tea and got to work, though, I checked the status of my order and saw that it now says that the package needs to clear Customs before being released for delivery. Damn. They always say, “don’t count your chickens before they hatch…” :(

Okay—the more I drink this, the more I like it. Even as I have been trying single-estate second flushes from other estates, this tea is the one I keep coming back to when I am in the mood for a second flush Darjeeling. It helps that I have been experimenting with the quantity of tea leaf used per water volume and I am at the amount which matches my taste.

While my original rating wasn’t low, I am still raising the number since this truly has become one of my favorites.

The more I have this tea, the more I am appreciating it. I don’t know if I’d want it immediately in the morning, but I have been brewing it during my afternoons at work and am enjoying it more and more. It is just a light, fresh tea—perfect for the afternoon/early evening. I especially enjoy the wet rocks/muscatel flavor, which is particularly noticeable with this tea as compared to other second flush Darjeeling teas I’ve had. I know “wet rocks” doesn’t sound all that appealing, but it really is a fresh flavor—like rain.

Has a woody flavor with an undertone of wet stone. Muscatel. The scent of the brewed tea reminds me of a rain shower. The aftertaste is very slightly astringent—probably because I brewed it longer than I should’ve…? That said, I actually do like this tea and would rank it as one of the better darjeelings that I’ve had! It has a pure taste and strong, dark color. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to make it this morning as I was more in the mood for a malty Assam, but I am glad I did. I will gladly finish off my supply and look to buy more in the future.

Super yummy treat!!! Can not say enough good things about this tea!! Very unique and decadent!!

This reminds me of David’s Three Wishes and Buddha’s Blend, but less flowery, which was nice. The fruitiness has a chance to come through, and the white/green base holds up well. It’s slightly astringent, but not bad. I’m sure this would work well iced, it has a classic summer vibe.
