drank Nutty & Spice by DAVIDsTEA

I think this was a nice tea, just not my particular cup if you’ll pardon the pun. It is nutty and a hint of apple. There’s almost a pastry-like flavor to it. I felt the cinnamon was a bit overpowering and out of balance. I think I might enjoy it more if it was mixed with a bit more of the plain tea. But I think it’s a good choice if you like cinnamon!

This was nice, a fruity/nutty mix as described. It was a little weakly flavored for me, although I didn’t steep it quite as long as I usually would. The smell is fantastic, and I appreciate that it isn’t heavy on the spices. I’m not sure I’d get a large quantity of this, but I’d totally add on a small bag next time I order.

I was really surprised by this one! It tasted like apple cider but more refreshing. My kids really loved it, as well – it isn’t super sophisticated, but yummy!

I did not expect to like this, but I really did! Purely herbal teas tend to be weak and flavorless (or heavy on artificial flavors) and turn me off, and I generally categorically dislike anything floral. This had a ton of flavor! I can taste the hibiscus (which I usually dislike) but in this it just gives a round tartness to the sweet strawberry flavor. I don’t consciously taste the lavender or rose, but I can certainly smell them (which I do like). I catch a faint hint of mint but nothing truly minty – it reads as a more green flavor that balances out the sweetness. I enjoyed this sample enough to order some for real, and I don’t know that I’ve ever ordered teas because of an herbal. I still love my real teas best, but this was great as a caffeine-free option.

Hah, once again my taste buds are nothing like everyone else’s! I really loved this one. There is something just warm and comforting about this one – the single strongest flavor impression for me is brioche. Maybe there’s a bit of a butter taste, and a touch of vanilla, but not spices or anything. There is a fruity hint as well, but it doesn’t read strong and overpowering. There is a faint coffee taste/aftertaste, but it was very faint – I think I only taste it because I don’t like coffee. I was fine with the hint of it in this tea, though. Seriously, this tea was like drinking a hug for me today. (Yes, overly saccharine description, but sorry, it fits for me!) Is it the finest tea ever? No, but I still loved it.

eta – I did not get any maple flavor from it as I see some others have, which I would notice as I don’t care for maple.

In fairness, I’ve never had a genmaicha tea before now, and it may just not be my thing. But I really disliked this! If you remember puffed wheat cereal, it had a very particular scent that I get from this tea. (Oddly, it’s the puffed wheat scent, not the puffed rice scent to me.) And it definitely smells like popcorn. The brew really just tastes like slightly nutty boiled water. I can see how if I were a peasant trying to stretch my tea supply, this could work. But, well, I’m not. So I’ll be getting other stuff from here on out!

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this one. I loathe coffee, and that was definitely the predominant scent of the brew. But the flavor was really just nutty and roasted and a touch creamy. I’m not sure I’ll purchase it because my mind kept telling.e it tasted like coffee, even though it didn’t. But I did enjoy the sample I had.

I think this tea is OK, seems to have more flavor as it cools. It definitely has the peppermint tingle, and a faint chocolate flavor, but it just needs…more. I steeped plenty long, and used plenty of tea, so it seems more of a problem inherent to the tea than user error. I can totally see people liking this, maybe if they have more sensitive taste buds than I do. :) I just don’t have a personal need to get it again.

This tastes like steeped cloves to me! I don’t get any of the flavors anyone else is tasting, although as it cools it has a bit more complexity. However, I don’t get anything apple out of it at all. I may try again with shorter brewing and cooler water, but I don’t think this one is going to be for me!

Scent is like spiced cider. The flavor could use a bit more apple-ness, but it’s comforting and likeable.

Bio

Wife, mom of 2 crazy young kids (and 3 cats, if they count). Used to be a professional tree hugger, now I stay at home hobbit-like and teach the kids to love the trees. Also hobbit-like, I love reading, tea, second breakfasts, cooking and food in general, and gardens. (I can’t really say I love gardening since where I live, it’s too dratted hot for too much of the year to actually do it.) I am always on the search for a good flavored decaf black tea. Suggestions are more than welcome!

I tend to like my teas strong, so I use more than most people when I brew. Don’t be put off a tea because I say I used 4 tsp to brew 12 oz or something – that’s just me.

PS – Unlike a hobbit, my toes are not furry. I just feel the need to clarify.
