558 Tasting Notes
Ordered myself a cup of this after work today. I needed a pick me up. They used 1 large full leaf bag for 16oz water, I steeped 2-2 1/2 minutes and added a splash of half and half and a packet of sugar in the raw. I enjoyed the first few sips of this the most, while it was scalding hot, but it was decent as it cooled down, just a bit perfumey. Not really floraly, but tasted like I was drinking perfume after awhile. I think it was just the way they used the bergamot. I’ve had better Earls, and worse Earls, this is a middle of the road Earl. I’d order again, but probably won’t buy a tin.
In hibiscus heaven. Had a tall glass of this iced with one packet of splenda and I gulped this down. I should have taken the time to enjoy it, but no, it was gulped. It is just that good! I think I’ll try and get a second steep out of the bags because this tea is going to go fast this spring! Hopefully this will be available loose down the road if the line kicks off well. Looking forward to the other flavors!
Not going to rate this until I try with double the leaf. I used 1 tsp in my 12 oz mug, which is usually ok, but seemed rather weak to me with all my teas I tried today. This tea brewed up a nice transparent orange color, not what I was expecting from a black tea, but will try again with double the exposure. I had it in a travel mug while running errands and left it in my car, my car now smells deliciously spicy and citrusy. Will post again once I try with more leaf.
Used 2 bags tea to 12 oz water. Steeped 4 minutes @185. The liqour is a murky cloudy amber green liquid. The ginger is sharp and strong from start to finish. The peach is a light aftertaste, the green a strong base to the mix. But WOW is that ginger sharp on the tongue, catches the back of the throat and tickles it. I can’t say I’ll ever crave this tea, but I’ll probably finish the box. Maybe blend it with some more green tea to mellow it out.
Now that I remembered to look up the steeping parameters for white tea, rather than just guessing (and under steeping the tea) I brewed up a cup of this. I think I might try it at five minutes instead of six next time, as I got a quite floral cup, and lost most of the peach flavor. The aroma is very peachy floral, but not getting much peach in the taste. Dropping the rating on this down a few notches as I’ve tried teas I enjoy much more than this one recently.
Preparation
The leaves in this tea have so many orange blossoms and smell so tart and citrusy (as they should). The green leaves are nice and long.
I steeped this at 180F for 3 minutes using 1 tsp of leaves. It brewed up a light tangerine liquor.
Flavor is very citrusy, a little tart/astringent, but quite delightful and refreshing. I had this in the late evening and really enjoyed sipping this cup.
I made a successful second steep at the same temperature for 6 minutes and added a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar (just in case it was too tannic). The sugar really calmed down the astringency and made the citrus flavors sweet.
Third steep just tasted like lightly citrus water, so I didn’t finish it.
Preparation
I brewed up a big hot mug of this last night. Used 4tsp to 16oz (per instructions). So many leaves! The leaves have such a large percentage of black currants mixed in with them, they smell so delicious! White tea was a good base for this blend, mellow and smooth and not overpowering the black currants. Delicious! Can’t wait to try this iced!
Today has been a great tea day, I’ve brewed a hot and an iced tea each time I’ve heated up my kettle so I can have two at a time, a hot one to drink first and the iced to drink after. I’m surprised my bladder isn’t screeching at me!
I prepared this iced today, no additives, and it’s not quite as good as I remember it being hot. I think my last sample of this will have to be hot. Iced, it isn’t as berry creamy sour as I remember, it’s just lightly sweet and fruity. Oh well, moving on.
Preparation
I think I was severely dehydrated when I got home from running errands today. I’ve had 4 12 oz mugs in three hours. I better stop while I’m ahead.
Thanks Soccermom for passing along a generous sampling of this tea!
This is a nice malty cup. It’s more mellow than Golden Moon’s Sinharaja. It smells slightly like warm beer, but a good warm beer. I’m enjoying this cup with out additives, but it could probably handle some cream, or a pinch of sugar. I’m not sure I would ever crave this type of tea, but I do like it.
Preparation
Bliss in a cup. This was exactly what I needed this morning. I wish I knew how they made these concentrates, as I’d try it at home. The barista told me that they cold brew the tea (but not sure that they sell the tea that makes the thai tea blend, as I didn’t see it available on the shelf, and they don’t offer it as a hot tea), and then add syrup to it, then steam milk or soy with it. Delicious. Just the right amount of spice with a great sweetness to it. I can’t wait to try this iced!
