I received a sample of this tea from Courtney, a fellow Steepster. She was generous enough to send me some samples of teas so that I can expand my taste buds further than DAVIDs.

I couldn’t have been more pleased with the tea I chose to sample first. This one is now one of my current favorites! After drinking my first cup, I had to research all about Brioche (the pastry) and being an avid baker, will likely have to try to make myself some in the near future.

I find this tea is comparable to DAVIDs Sugar & Spice or Glitter & Gold; however, it dominates both of these in the ways of smell, taste, and smoothness. Brioche, to me, tastes like a more high quality tea. I found Sugar & Spice to have a harsh spice taste where Brioche’s flavors blend together perfectly, and I found that Glitter & Gold lacked the amount of flavor that Brioche has.

I will definitely be checking out American Tea Room and adding this tea to my wish list. Yum!

I gave this one another go this morning. I’ve bumped up its rating for a couple of reasons:
1. The smell is really the only thing that is reminiscent of cough lozenges. If you’re able to look past this smell (which isn’t horrible), the actual taste of the tea is wonderful. It’s not one of my favorites, but I really enjoy it and would re-purchase.
2. Although this tea’s suggested steep time is 4-7 minutes and I vowed to pay more attention to steep times and temperatures, my daughter’s 2 minute diaper change turned into a 14 minute situation, so my tea steeped for that long before I was able to rescue it. Luckily, I didn’t find a difference between the last time I had a cup and steeped it for 5 minutes.
3. Despite the fact that I steeped my first cup for 14 minutes, I steeped another cup using the same infuser full of tea and it steeped really well a second time. It wasn’t AS flavorful as the first cup, but that could very well be because of the extended time I gave to the first cup.

I’m in love! This was another tea I received in DAVIDs Sweet Indulgence pack and I’m upset that I only have a small sample of it. Adding it to my wish list! I knew this was going to be a tea I’d really enjoy. I haven’t tried a lot of different types of tea yet, but I can almost guarantee that I’m going to like it if it’s classified as an “herbal”.

I steeped two cups of this out of one DAVIDs spoonful, with the second being just as flavorful as the first (although I did steep it a bit longer). As I took my second or third sip of my first hot cup, I considered firing some ice into it and drinking it cold, but I decided to drink the first cup as it was and have the second cup iced. It was fantastic!

This is a tea that I’ll likely always have in my cupboard (when I get around to picking up a large bag) and will likely frequently have a pitcher on hand in the fridge during the summer months.

I really thought I would love this one, but I thought it was just okay. I found that it lacked flavor…but then again, I really don’t pay attention to water temperatures or steep times. I think from now on, I’m going to do my research, find out what kinda lovin’ my particular type of tea needs, and steep it properly to make sure that I give each tea a legitimate rating. I hate to think that some of my teas are getting the shitty end of the stick because I can’t be bothered to take two minutes to glance at a package.

I found this tea to have a very noticeable chocolate flavor (as it should, considering its name) and a slight hint of berry. I found it similar to DAVIDs Love Tea No. 7.

I really want to love this tea. I’ll try another cup of this tomorrow and vow to take the time and prepare my teas properly from now on…starting with this one.

I gave this one another go tonight after dinner. For some reason, as I was eating my dessert (German Chocolate Cake), I thought that this tea would be the perfect accompaniment. Unfortunately, I finished the cake while I was waiting for my tea to steep, but I was still pleased with my choice of blend.

I actually enjoyed this tea a lot more the second time around. I didn’t notice any orange taste with this cup, just a combination of sweetness and spices. I still don’t think this is a tea I’ll be buying in a large quantity anytime soon since there are so many new blends and companies out there I’d like to try first, but I might get around to purchasing it in the future for cold winter nights.

EDIT: This is one of the few yeas that I’ve found don’t steep well a second time using the same infuser of tea leaves.

drank Lime Gelato by DAVIDsTEA

I tried this one again today. I had told a friend of mine that I’d tried it previously and wasn’t impressed, she asked me some questions and we came to the conclusion that I likely steeped it wrong. I changed the steep time and water temperature to what she advised was correct for green teas, but the result was still the same. I still found this tea to have a weak smell and a weak flavor. I previously assumed it was because it was a green tea, but I tried DAVIDs Movie Night this week and realized that flavored green teas can pack a hell of a lot of flavor.

Once I steeped it according to my friend’s suggestion, took a sip and discovered it was no better than when I steeped it last week, I added some lime agave, hoping it would bring out the tea’s lime flavor…still no better. After reading all of the reviews for this tea here on Steepster, I’m wondering if I’m still doing something wrong in the way I’m steeping this blend or if I really just don’t love it.

I think I had the same issues with David’s Goji Pop. I just COULDN’T get it to steep red – and every picture or review I’d ever seen of it mentioned that it’s bright red when steeped. I’d talked to different people and was SURE I was brewing it wrong or just drinking the wrong tea because EVERY time I drank it I could taste a light, goji and melon taste but the liquid was crystal clear. I don’t remember what I did differently, but one day I brewed some up in a last ditch attempt to make the freaking tea turn red and low and behold it actually did! And it tasted completely different and much more flavourful too. I have no idea what changed in how I was brewing it though – it just worked. So maybe give it a few more tries fooling around with how you’re steeping it: tea can be funny sometimes. Although, you’re right: you might just not like this one.

drank Cocoberry by DAVIDsTEA

Whoa! I’m really surprised that this tea got such a low rating! I was given a sample of Cocoberry from a friend of mine as it was one that she really enjoyed from DAVIDs Fall Collection. As someone who used to drink a lot of flavored coffees, I knew this would be a tea I would really enjoy.

I could taste and smell coffee and a hint of fruitiness…although I wasn’t sure if it was something like a cherry, strawberry or raspberry. It actually vaguely reminded me of a raspberry truffle flavored coffee I had tried in the past. When I went to check the ingredients of this tea on the DAVIDs website, I couldn’t believe how many things went into making this tea…although I noticed that there WERE cherry and strawberry flavors in it (along will a bazillion other things).

Being a lover of this tea, I’m now caught in a potential conundrum – do I place a DAVIDs order before Friday to get a bag of Cocoberry, or do I wait until Friday hoping that they’ve come out with their Winter Collection? On the other hand, being a tea newbie, I could be wrong and the Fall Collection’s teas may be year-round teas, but I’ve heard otherwise. I just feel that I need EVERY tea…I feel that I’ve quickly turned into an addict.

If you really like this one, I’d put in an order for it sooner rather than later. Once the Winter Collection comes out, it’ll only be stocked as long as they have any left. Once it’s out then it’s out until at least next fall (and that’s if they decide to bring it back – they might not).

KellyxLee

Do they mark down the previous seasons collections when a new collection comes out? I noticed that there are web specials with a good percent off of large amounts, but I’m not sure why those teas are reduced…are they discontinued?

Roswell Strange

For the web special teas, some are being discontinued and some are just being featured. It might be best to check with someone who has been drinking tea a bit longer than I have (I’ve been drinking less than a year so haven’t actually watched a full rotation of the seasonal teas), but usually they just keep selling the seasonal teas at their regular price until they run out, from what I’ve observed (if that’s what you mean by mark down). Some seasonal teas are expected to come back because they’re insanely popular (like Pumpkin Chai) – but others don’t come back (basically, they were limited edition). This was the first year Cocoberry was sold, so no idea whether or not it’ll return.

TeaLady441

Usually they repackage the leftover tea in 2/$5 bags full of 25g. That’s super cheap, but it depends what the store has leftover. I’m hoping to grab some Friday when I buy the new teas, but it might not be done yet. Sometimes they’ll mark down the specialty tins in store too. If it’s still on the tea wall, they keep still selling it at regular price, even if it’s from a previous season. :(

And I don’t know how often teas come back. :( But maybe they’ll put it as a web special if it wasn’t popular enough and they’re overstocked .

TeaLady441

Also, I really enjoyed this one too! Glad not alone.
You might like Chocolate Rocket too.

KellyxLee

I actually really hope it wasn’t popular enough so they consider making it a web special. I’d love to be able to get it before it’s gone, especially for a cheaper price.

I actually have a sample size of Chocolate Rocket, but haven’t gotten around to trying it yet. After your comment, I’m making it next on my list!

Roswell Strange

Personally, I LOVE Mate teas (as a lifesaver at work because of the high energy and also just for the flavour of the mate itself). The two that I keep stocked from David’s are Main Squeeze and Chocolate Rocket :) Cavocorax is probably right in guessing you’ll love Chocolate Rocket too – it has the same sorta “coffee but not really coffee” thing going on because it uses roasted mate and various things like almonds and chicory, and then has the really nice raspberry flavour to it too. I think it’s also David’s “most populat” Mate blend, too.

drank Pink Lemonade by DAVIDsTEA

I’ve really been craving an iced tea since I tried Redberry Tonic at DAVIDs last week, so I finally got off my ass and made myself one. I decided to try DAVIDs Pink Lemonade as I thought it would be a nice, fruity tea to start with. Yum! I really loved this tea iced and drinking it at a cooler temperature took away the Neocitrin taste I find it has when served hot.

After drinking two large glasses of iced Pink Lemonade tea, I realized that this tea may becoming a bit sickening if consumed too frequently. I’ll have to ensure that I don’t steep this too often as I really don’t want to get sick of it and would love to enjoy it in the summer months.

I tried a cup of DAVIDs Movie Night tea this evening at a friend’s house. She had tried it not so long ago and was really impressed, so when she asked me what tea I wanted to try from her cupboard, I immediately asked for a cup of Movie Night. The fact that this tea contains popcorn is really what drew me in.

This is one of those flavors that you really can’t describe and are really surprised to find in a cup of tea. It really does taste like buttered popcorn! Adding this to my shopping list immediately and searching for other teas with bizarre ingredients!

drank Currant Affair by DAVIDsTEA
32 tasting notes

I picked up a 50g bag of Currant Affair while at DAVIDs’ Moncton, New Brunswick location this past weekend. I had asked one of the employees for a suggestion and this is what she recommended as it was this month’s Tea of the Month. I noticed this past weekend that I have a thing for asking employees to randomly choose something for me (MAC – “Pick out an eyeshadow that you feel would compliment my eyes”, Every Sushi Restaurant – “And just add in an order of whichever roll you like the best”, DAVIDs – “I’ll also have 50g of any random tea you wanna recommend”). I always seem to have good luck with the employees I encounter. I guess the fact that I’m pretty easygoing and will consume anything helps.

Oh right, the tea…

I don’t believe I’ve ever tried currants before, so I can’t compare this tea to actual currants, but I really do enjoy this tea’s flavor. I did; however, find that it’s smell and taste vaguely reminded me of some sort of cough syrup or throat lozenge. This has actually been the second tea to remind me of medicine (without the medicine taste luckily).

I’ve only steeped two cups of this tea so far (consecutively) and that was a few days ago. I’m also writing this review by memory, as opposed to using my handwritten notes…so I’ll give this another go shortly and reassess. I know I did thoroughly enjoy this tea and as far as I can recall, would recommend it.

A lot of people seem to find Rooibos teas have a medicinal taste, and I think that MAYBE that’s contributing to why a lot of people seem to compare this tea to lozenges. Personally, I love currants (currant jam is the shit) but have been putting off trying this because my absolute favourite tea of all time in currant flavoured and I’m worried this wont even come close to comparing. However, since I’ve seen a lot of people make the lozenge connection now I’m curious: since I don’t find Rooibos to, typically, taste medicinal I’m wondering if I can avoid any unwanted medicinal tasting currant flavour…

Roswell Strange

Damn that was longer and more rambly than I thought it was…

KellyxLee

I’ve only tried a handful of Rooibos, but Currant Affair and Pink Lemonade from DAVIDs TEA both remind me of popular medicines. They don’t actually have that nasty, strong medicine taste, but more the flavor the companies add to the medicines to make them bearable to get down. I don’t think I was super fair to this tea for giving it only a 68 point score and truthfully, I haven’t really been scoring by numbers, just going by the little happy faces. I would definitely give this one a shot…It definitely wasn’t not worth trying and I’m excited to try it again to see if I feel differently about it. Also, I’m just getting into tea and don’t know a damn thing about proper amounts to steep, steep times, temperatures, etc. and I was told last night by a friend that this is super important. Maybe steeping it properly would take away the lozenge taste? I’m going to give it another go today and see what happens.
