From The Tea Nation

Earl Grey
Earl Grey is named after the 2nd Earl Grey, who was Prime Minister of Britain in the 1830s. Legend has it that Earl Grey’s servants rescued an Indian Maha Raja’s son from a tiger. As a token of appreciation the Maha Raja sent the Earl a special tea, imported from Ceylon that was flavored with bergamot oil, extracted from bergamot orange. After receiving the gift, Earl Grey reputedly never drank tea without bergamot oil again. We haveRead more

Not really a fan of this…all I can taste is a bitter bergamot. I know some earl grey fans like that type of thing so I am going going to score like I would if I couldn’t finish the cup but I am not going to go real high either.

Thanks for letting me try this one too, TeaEqualsBliss! I almost had written all Earl Grey off, as the only Earl Grey I had ever tried was probably the worst tea bag ever. Terrible stuff. Then I tried some Creme Earl Grey and it became my second favorite tea ever. (Worst and second favorite? Interesting.) I think I really love the creamy component in tea. I was still worried as I tried this one, just because I didn’t think I would like plain bergamot, because of my experience with “bergamot”. But this is GOOD. This is actually a quality bergamot and not floor cleaner like that other tea! And the bergamot might be responsible for a bit of the flavor I thought was just the cream in the other. There really AREN’T many teas I don’t like!

I drank an Earl Grey a while back when I first got into tea that was extremely bitter and gross no matter how you made it. Silly me thought it was the safflowers in it, and I was afraid to try any tea with safflower until I finally realized it was the bergamot.

Not a terrible Earl Grey, but not the best I’ve tried either… this one rests at a happy medium. A fair amount of bergamot that doesn’t taste artificial or perfume-y (although the aroma worried me a bit before I took sip because it didn’t quite smell like bergamot but rather a bergamot-based perfume)

Nice!

Not as flavorful as Twinings Earl Grey, but still pretty good. I might have a sipdown on it tomorrow since I only have two bags left. Or I might do a cold brew experiment. We will see.

Our room now has cable. Dad sent the cable cord to me this week, so I get to decide on whether I want to be sociable or stay in on Dr Who nights now.

Finally had a chance to try this tea. Has a pleasant floral aroma and initially gave off a strong bergamot scent. Not to worry though this tea is very pleasant. The bergamot is spot on and the ceylon black tea is light and flavorful without being bitter or overpowering. I am more familiar with Twinings earl grey and had been looking for a replacement when my local market stopped carrying Twinings…well I must admit The Tea Nation’s Earl Grey fits the bill…mimics Twinings pleasant flavor almost perfectly. I had also tried Stash teas as a replacement however I was nowhere near as impressed by Stash as I am The Tea Nation. The Tea Nation is a relatively new company to the US though they have been marketing tea in Sri Lanka for sometime. After having tried this tea I feel quite comfortable recommending this tea to anyone. So if anyone has seen this tea and wondered… i suggest go ahead try a cuppa you won’t be disappointed!

I love Earl Grey, but this is not the quality I associate with Earl Grey.
I would not ever purchase this again.
The Bergamot is barely perceptible fragrance & taste wise.

As of right now, this is my all time favorite brand of Earl Grey. And there is a simple reason why: to me, it has the best and strongest flavor. Earl Grey is known for it’s flavor, hands down. So when I open up a container of Earl Grey, I expect to smell Earl Grey, first off, and second, have that scent remain or be strengthened when the tea bag meets the water. But this is for tasting, so let me get to that.

As I said before, this has an amazing flavor. It’s classic Earl Grey, with a very rich, smooth flavor. It’s got the right amount of sweetness, and with this brand, I find that I don’t have to sweeten it much, just one level spoonful, maybe a bit of honey if I’m in the mood. I don’t like cream with my tea, usually, and that’s the same with this one, but when I am in the mood for cream/milk/etc, this tea takes to it very well, especially this brand.

I have a lot more to say about this tea, but I don’t want to just ramble on. I love this tea, and I LOVE the round, string free, tea bags. A good tea with no hassle is a winner in my book!

Had this for the first time today on a mission to find the perfect earl grey. pretty good cup of tea, with a good helping of bergamot. The aroma when opened up is quite pleasant and makes me really crave a cup. I dont think its my all time favorite earl grey but a pretty darn good one.

I’m a fan of Earl Grey tea. I didn’t use to be. But after trying Earl Grey from Tazo, I was hooked. I found this brand of Earl Grey, and was pleasantly happy with it. Now, it’s not Tazo, but it is good. It’s a black tea, so I can drink it in the morning, and all day long, for a little pick-me-up. Enjoyable.

Very mild taste with hint of Bergamot. Second favorite Earl Grey. Like it with milk and sweetener.
