Vanilla Bean Macaron

Bagged tea from Tazo, great for a quick, no-brainer, I-need-something-sweet-and-comforting kind of brew. I mostly use this while traveling because of the convenience of teabags vs. loose leaf. It’s nice and vanilla-y with a tiny, tiny hint of warm spice. Honestly, the bar was really low on this one, so it passed with flying colors. Brewed according to the instructions on the box.

It seems my love of gourmand perfumes is not replicated in a great many dessert teas. This is no exception. Kind of “funky” or off, it’s drinkable and “ok” but I will not repurchase. Something about the strong black tea with the sweetness gives a “stale” vibe. I tried it black and with cream/sweet, but either way a “meh” experience.

I love macaron’s but the almonds in them do not like me. At some point, I want to find someone who makes them without almonds. Anyway, I can see why they name this after a vanilla bean macaron. The flavor intertwines like a mad toddler while playing with the other flavors. But mostly what I taste is chickory root. The vanilla bean flavor is not nearly as strong as I was expecting. It’s decent when there is nothing else available but not one I would willingly choose if something else was available.

If you are looking for a sweet, dessert-like vanilla tea, this probably won’t be for you. Tazo does have it within their Dessert line, but I think that’s actually a disservice to this tea. The licorice root provides a nice balance and keeps the tea from being overly sweet. Lovely if you’re wanting something a little less “in your face” vanilla, but probably not what most purchasers are after.

I’ve liked most of the others in Tazo’s dessert delights line but this one is not a fav. Really it’s not even a like. There’s definitely vanilla but then all I get is mud.

I really, really like lemon glazed loaf, its close to one of my tea bagged teas which is nice because I can buy at the Target really close to me. So because of that I wanted to try the other teas in the tazo dessert delight collection.

Tasting note: Its pretty bland in my opinion, the licorice root is kind of there and there is some vanilla notes but the black tea is not very good or interesting in my opinion. Will do my best to sip this down but it is not a priority.

2020 Advent Swap – Day 12

One of my all time really hard to find favorites!

My husband and I both like this one! I was a little worried at first about the licorice root, but I can’t even taste it. Right out of the bag, it smells like a fresh-baked cinnamon roll (which, coincidentally, is what I had for breakfast this morning). After steeping, I smell vanilla frosting. I’ve had vanilla bean macarons before, and even though that wasn’t my first thought when drinking this, I think Tazo nailed that vanilla flavor. It’s missing maybe some almond and some inherent sweetness (guessing that’s where the licorice root came in), but overall I think that this is a great tea that does well at achieving its intended flavors. Bleggggggg. Someone kindly gifted this to me, but it’s awful. Couldn’t get past one sip.

When my family moved into a new house when I was 12, there was a weird boiled water faucet that the previous owners of the house had installed. This tea tastes exactly like that weird boiled water tasted.

Had a chance to try this tea, as well as two of the other “Dessert Delights” teas from Tazo. I had very low expectations for the line up, given prior experiences with Tazo brand tea being pretty abysmal. While I liked the other two a fair bit, this one was just down right terrible. I mean, I can’t argue that you definitely do get the French Vanilla flavouring coming through pretty clearly – but there’s also something that just potently tastes like some sort of pasty kind of dough (like fondant) mixed with salty Play-Doh. It was revolting, and I couldn’t finish the mug…
