Our 1993 Wild Leaf comes from the ancient tea trees that have grown for hundreds of years on the mountainous slopes of China’s Yunnan province.
Harvested and crafted by the aboriginal people of Yunnan, the tea is a “sheng” or raw pu-erh – aged naturally – with time as the only catalyst transforming the tea from its nascent state as “mao cha” to its current rich mahogany color.
While we are unclear as to the source mountain for this tea, we do know that about seven years after harvest, the tea was acquired by a family friend and brought to Guangzhou to be stored at his tea house until we acquired it in 2006.
This natural aging creates a tea that is uncharacteristically light and sweet. Steeped longer, the tea becomes creamy, with a heavier, yet remarkably smooth body.

I’ve gone onto 7 infusions so far and they are all butter pecan delicious with a hint of creamy sweetness. Faintly musty and earthy but with a aftertaste that lingers. No sign of the flavor slowing down. No weird funkiness that make me wonder what this is and why I am drinking it. I love wild tea and this seems like a great showcase for it – a gorgeous mature and fully blossomed beauty that deserves my full attention and devotion. I wish I was better at describing these things. Bravo and A+. If I ever have a better sheng I will be amazed. I am seeing stars.

This is one of the nicest Pu’ers I have ever had, and I should have purchased a good half pound when I still had the chance.
This tea is amazing. I got super generous sample from teafriend. Very unusual notes I don’t find often in aged Sheng. It is savory and sweet. Fennel, allspice, cinnamon comes to mind. Really good with longer steeps I pushed to a minute and longer. Very dark and syrupy consistency.
