From PuerhShop.com

This cake is made of the Spring leaves in Bulang area in Menghai. The naturally organic tea leaves are plucked, panned and kneaded, sun-dried in an open field, and then steamed, finally compressed into a fine tea cake.

As a bargain this cake has the aging potential, but can also be drunk right away.

First, I have no idea what “naturally organic tea leaves” means….as opposed to naturally inorganic? Whatever.

This tea won’t age well, I think. It can not even really make it through five infusions before it is dull and kinda boring. The first couple of steepings are not bad, but it slowly dissipates and turns into something that tastes like decent materials thinned with average leaves.

Not the worst tea or anything, but not that great.

This tea had a nice minty aroma and tasted like chocolate/carob and sweet in the first 2 infusions. It was boring by the 3rd infusion, tasting like little. I had to stress the tea with long infusions to get any flavor, and it did have some bitterness and astringency when pushed, but not much mouthfeel or aftertaste. The leaf quality was surprisingly poor upon examination, its broken leaves looking a step above tuocha grade material. Nothing I’d purchase again.

I actually found the leaf quality in my cake to be pretty good, with many large intact ones. There was a nice honey note sneaking through in early tastings with a pleasant citrus aftertaste, but all in all the tea was a bit flat and ashy, which I’m chalking up to its youth. I’ll probably put this away for a while and revisit it in a year or so.

I’m steeping this a little longer than normal, but it’s still tasty without being astringent. Good stuff.
