Our finest blend of high-grown, whole-leaf black teas. The flavor is malty, floral, and complex.
In 1866, Joshua Lane Jordan, the great-great-grandfather of our tea buyer, set sail from Maine in the merchant ship The Pride of the Port. Sailing to ports in England, India and New Orleans, he transported commodities from America to the other side of the world and back again. When our tea buyer Eliot Jordan, set out to make a premium blend of black teas from China and India, he named it ‘Pride of the Port’ as an homage to these great tea origins – and to the long history of trade in tea.

I absolutely adore this one. It’s VERY bready, which makes it perfect as a breakfast tea. It has the smoothness of Chinese black tea with the robust flavor of Indian black tea. Steeps a gorgeous ruddy brown color and mixes famously with skim milk. Floral notes in addition to bread/ toast notes.

Ah, it’s been a long time since I’ve made a proper tasting note here, isn’t it? Hopefully things will get more settled town toward the end of the year, and I’ll be able to take it slow with a cup of tea more often.
I had this yesterday at Peet’s, where I was happy to see that they had a drawer of many loose leaf and sachet tea options. I think I let my cup oversteep a bit while working on something. While some subtleties may have been lost, it was still a good, solid malty black tea. The malt quality really announces itself with every sip. It’s very rich and robust, and a good pick-me-up on an uncommonly cool afternoon (which Southern California has really needed!)
Tastes almost too good for a strong breakfast blend. My new favorite blend for breakfast. Gonna take my upton irish breakfast to work for caffeine and keep this one for my mornings. Need to compare this with the lose leaf twinning irish breakfast to finally decide the best breakfast for me.
This is one of my favorite teas, introduced to me by a friend who bought me some when I had a tea party. It is close to an assam tea but has flavors that come out very well when drunk with milk, and I love black tea with milk. You should steep it well, and after a couple of months it becomes just a dark black tea.
A very solid, medium-body tea. I came to Pride of the Port with high expectations, and was a bit disappointed at first – not as rich a cup as I thought I might get. Over time, though, my appreciation for Pride has grown, and I find that it is a fine breakfast tea.

It’s like the most perfectly blended breakfast tea. Would probably go very well with hot buttered toast or scones!
