I was really excited about this because I LOVE watermelon. Love it. I’m finding that this isn’t a true watermelon taste though. It’s not bad, just not what I was expecting.

I’ll enjoy the rest of my stash but I don’t think I’ll re-purchase.

Why did I not review this sooner? I was sure I did, then when it came to removing it from my cupboard I noticed it had no rating. Well I can write a review now, I’ve had this one a bunch of times and it was absolutely delicious. The watermelon is distinct in flavour and pure, there is no way about it…this is watermelon. I love watermelon. If I could I would marry watermelon and have it’s babies. The Matcha itself works well with the flavour, adding a silky element to it. I used this Matcha as a latte, traditional with water, as an ice cream topping and as a lip gloss scent. It was perfect throughout whatever I tried and I am sad to see this one go, I have maybe three cups worth left which will be finished this weekend I imagine. I need to get some more flavoured Matcha as soon as I get some money.

Thank you Roswell Strange (and aisling of tea) for sharing this with me. I was planning on making this as a matcha milk only to chicken out at the last second and decide watermelon soda sounded more appealing.

I am actually happy I went this route because it turned out to be a pretty refreshing drink. The watermelon flavor is sweet and fresh and would probably be super awesome in the summertime and/or in a tea cocktail perhaps (though a girly, fruity cocktail of course). Plus, it is flavorful enough to distract from the carbonated water taste that I usually find difficult to get past. Oh, and no vegetal base so I am a happy, happy girl.

TeaBrat

how do you make a matcha tea soda? simply mix with carbonated water?

VariaTEA

I use 1/2 tsp matcha, dissolve it in a little bit of hot water and then fill the glass with cold carbonated water.

Roswell Strange

That’s exactly what I do too – though occasionally I add a pinch of sugar as well.

VariaTEA

Of course it is. I learned from you :)

Decided to bust open the matcha package sent to me by Roswell Strange. Thanks so so much! You sent a ton for me to try, and I can’t wait to put together my rlt order.

I went with this one first because it seems to be a flavour associated with spring and summer, and although it feels anything unlike it outside, I’m still desperate to bring it about. This had an odd smell in the bag—not exactly chemically, but just…different. There was watermelon, but also something else. Actually, it sort of smelled as though a bottle of perfume had “turned”, and although that’s not the most appetizing description, it nonetheless stands. Not to be deterred though, I whipped it up in some milk. And the taste was definitely creamy watermelon, although like others have said it’s more of a candied watermelon than an authentic one. It tasted fine, but I found the whole thing to be a bit underwhelming. That being said, I downed the glass like it was no one’s business, and will have not a single problem either finishing off the sample or sending the last serving onto someone else who’s curious.
Bottom line: a good flavored matcha, although not my favourite.

Marzipan

You know, just from the name this isn’t something I would ever order, but after clicking through and reading the reviews, I might have to.

JustJames

i have a beautiful vanilla sent to me by MissB that i’m waiting to get into….. now with the blender =0) heh heh! no stopping me!

keychange

James, I hear the vanilla is delish! and marzipan, I can send you the wee bit of this I have left if that’ll help you decide.

Nxtdoor

Oh, keychange, I’m waiting for summer just like you. But first we must get spring! That groundhog, I wanna wring his little neck! 6 weeks my ass.

Compliments of aisling of tea who sent a fair bit of this. Enough so that I’ll be able to pass some to Keychange and have already shared some with VariaTEA! Spread the matcha love!

This one smells the best, of all the match she sent. I didn’t think it’d work well in milk though, so I made it up into a tea soda last night when I got home. The “recipe” was .5 tsp. of matcha dissolved into an ounce of hot water, a can of club soda, and a pinch of sugar.

Taste wise I thought this was very tasty, and definitely quite flavourful. It did seem like a bit more of an artificial/candy watermelon flavour – but was still really enjoyable to me nonetheless. I look forward to drinking it again!

keychange

Woohoo for sharing matcha love! also, I bet it’d be fantastic in milk. Mmm watermelon milk.

Daddyselephant

This was one of my favourites.

VariaTEA

I plan to get club soda to try plum matcha as a tea soda given plum milk sounds weird. I also have more eggnog matcha which I plan to try as a tea soda.

VariaTEA

Wait, I am dumb. I own a soda stream. I can just make the club soda :P

Roswell Strange

Plum milk does sound weird. Then again, eggnog matcha soda sounds just as weird, but I liked that one…

First couple of cups were wonderful. It has a very pronounced watermelon flavour but I found it a little over powering.
