I infused this in my designated tea French press this evening. I wanted a solid black tea to pair with my evening gaming session. I took pause to note that this isn’t as “BBQ heavy” as some Lapsang Souchong teas I’ve had. It does have characters of smoke and peaty flavors, but it’s quite inviting.

I was quite surprised that this tea came off as smokier than the lapsang suchong, but it was delightfully so. The first steep had more bitter woody tea notes, and the 3-4th steep had a wonderful balance. I over steeped some to add to my soy egg marinade and it provided a beautiful depth of flavour. Definitely one of my faves.

The aroma of the dried leaves is very characteristic but with an elegant smoothness, with precision. It is possible to distinguish the pleasant pine aroma and nuances without the smoke taking over your sense of smell.
The seasoned flavor, at the same time refreshing, takes over the palate, with a mineral hint.

A tightly twisted leaf with a dusty dark chocolate appearance. The aroma is slightly smoky with dry woody notes. The initial aroma instantly reminds me of sweet potatoes. Just mashed, no butter added. This is a well-made black tea. The flavor pops in your mouth and there is so much to experience. Sweet potatoes, slight campfire smoke, a tad bit of charcoal, a bit of fruit, woody tones, some compost, mossy earth… The mouthfeel is so smooth.

Grandpa Style Sipdown (2367)!

As y’all know, I love a good smoked tea, and this one definitely delivers. It’s smooth and oak heavy with a mix of medium bodied smoke, vanilla, and stonefruit notes that almost make me think of a really good Bourbon or Scotch. In particular, I really enjoyed the natural vanilla notes with this sweet smoke; it feels like it could be a really approachable Lapsang Souchong for people who aren’t as into something more aggressive or in your face..

A smokey black tea. Warm wood notes, mildly tart and fruity, no bitterness. I personally prefer floral black teas but I think dads would really like this one. Barbeque, whiskey, bourbon, sausages, men perfume, cigar, those are what the tea remind me of.

This is a lovely, if yet intensely smokey, black tea with beautiful earthy notes. This tea would pair perfectly with dessert to help cut the sweetness. It has a smooth taste with no bitterness and would make a great introductory tea for those who have not experienced Souchong. The quality is also seen through the multiple steeps of this tea.

I found this tea to be surprisingly good. I had some underwhelming oolongs from their tasting pack, but this really seemed the deal. Notes of stone fruit like apricot were accompanied by a lightly pine smoked aroma. This faded away as the session developed, with heavy longan sweetness making itself apparent. And what a huigan!! This is no light praise coming from someone who is very well acquainted with Wuyi black teas. My only criticism is that of quality control. On my second pack, I found a hair in my newly opened package and was disheartened. However, this is not an issue with the tea, but rather the company and I am only reviewing the tea in itself. iTeaworld responded responsibly by taking this into account and improving quality checks, while also promising to send a new sample. I’ll start by saying that I don’t drink a lot of black tea. Buys mostly tea that is suitable for storage.
The lid of my gaiwan smelled of flowers after the first infusion. Don’t ask me which ones, I’m not a botanist.
The wet leaves smelled of baked goods with a dark undertone.
Tea reminded me of cake my grandmother and mother used to bake in the 70s and 80s. Lightly spicy and a little bit of cinnamon.
The 5th and 6th infusion had a little smoke.
Funny how tastes and smells can bring back memories. All the way through I sat and thought about my childhood.
The energy was very subtle. It came quietly. And was meditative.
