As warm and toasty as sitting in front of your fireplace, so is this tea… but, with a bit of spice! We have taken a delicious Chinese black tea and blended it with the most amazing vanilla, ginger and spices. The flavor reminds of a chai tea with the warm creaminess of vanilla. An absolute treat!
Ingredients: Black tea, vanilla flavor with vanilla bits, ginger bits, chai spices, white cornflower
Suggested brewing tips:

I previously compared this tea to DavidsTea’s Glitter and Gold… and yup. Bang on, IMO. It’s good; I certainly like it better than I remember liking Cinnamon Crackle, and without an epic oversteep, it isn’t overly sweet, which is good. I probably wouldn’t bother stocking both G&G and Fireside Spice in my cupboard simultaneously due to the similarities; I’m not sure if one is better than the other, but DavidsTea is certainly much more accessible for me, so that would be my pick, for convenience alone.

It totally sounds like an evening tea – something to drink while you’re wrapped up in a bunch of blankets and reading a book under the light from a lamp. I decided to have it now because I’m a rebel! :P
It smells really great. So much cinnamon and vanilla!
The first few sips – it’s really heady. So much vanilla! I get a bit of ginger and cinnamon at the beginning of each sip, but it’s quickly replaced by all the vanilla. It does have a bit of a warming effect though!
I’ll rate it when I’m not sleepy and a little dizzy and in need of some actual food instead of tea in my belly. :P

I might have underleafed though? (Getting used to teapot size) It’s good but I’m only getting cinnaminamon :P aaaand a little bit of sweetness! Gonna have to try again tmrw in my starbux mug.
Yeah I find I have so much tea now that I don’t usually underleaf anymore. :D Love your new tea pot! I love how my 16oz mug holds nearly as much as a teapot. Glutten, much?

When I opened the pouch, I thought that it smelled a lot like the holiday spice type of teas – you know, the cinnamon-y, spicy, citrus-y type of tea that nearly every tea vendor offers. But this one is a little different because of the vanilla. I like the sweet, creamy note that this adds.
It isn’t quite as spicy-hot-sweet as some of the other holiday-type blends. I like this.

the smell of this tea is intense! with no vanilla to be seen if you ask me. but the taste is much more mellow and playful. i’m not a huge chai person but this isn’t really really a chai tea i don’t think. i’d buy it again and glad i have a second cup :)
i LOVE della terra. i’m a person who needs things to the extreme. i don’t wanna be that way, but it’s how i’m built. or how i’ve been molded i guess.
i don’t run 5ks i run 50ks. i don’t go out often but when i do i’m in the sweaty middle of the dance floor the entire time. and this catholic girl cheerleader got her first tattoo when she was 18 and it was large. (cliche i knowww)
point being, della terra has almost ONLY intense flavors. there is no real subtlety there. it’s all tea as a vehicle for flavor. and for some weird reason i don’t feel overwhelmed by my sample stash anymore (which makes no sense since it’s huge hah) (huge i say!) and then there’s that $5 coupon they sent out, and damnit to hell if i’m not gonna place an order. oh della terra. damnit to hell.

On the second day of Christmas, Della Terra gave to me…Fireside Spice!
This one is so much sweeter than I thought it was going to be. I guess it’s the vanilla. I brewed this as a chai latte as an afternoon treat, with plenty of warmed milk and a sprinkling of cinnamon. I can taste ginger, clove, and cinnamon, which are wonderfully Christmassy and warming. I just wasn’t expecting there to be so much sweetness from the vanilla – after a couple of sips it almost becomes a bit cloying. I think next time I’ll brew this as I would black tea; quite strong, with just a little milk. I think I’ll prefer it like that. Otherwise, I’ll just have to use a smaller cup! A nice afternoon treat for the second day of Christmas, anyway!
As i was brewing this up i was trying to figure out what it was reminding me of. kittenna nailed it – David’s tea: glitter n gold. Less gold spinkles, more cinnamon and less sweet than David’s IMO. Over all not a bad tea but i really only needed this one cup to drink. The rest can go into the swap box!
The plan today was to try to go the entire day without tea. I’ve been feeling fuzzy brained lately and wondered if it had to do with tea consumption. Then the mailman delivered a package of tea I ordered from Della Terra. Each of the teas were calling to me…so I gave in.
This tea was nearly everything I had hoped for. The dry tea smells heavenly and could be a potpourri to scent your house (if you wanted to waste it). The first flavor I tasted was a strong cinnamon. Kind of like a red hot. But quickly the other flavors come out – vanilla and ginger. YUM! The more I sip it the more I enjoy the smooth flavor of the vanilla.
Now the question is, can I resist the urge to make a second cup?!?
Backlogging a cuppa the afternoon from a few days ago……
I have been meaning to log this for about a week now. I have had it twice, now, so I thought I had a pretty good handle on it. Today my the cuppa the afternoon is Della Terra’s Oatmeal Raisin. Really, I am glad I waited, because I feel like I can compare the two flavor profiles and maybe help someone else out when trying to choose between the two.
Fireside Spice is not your usual spiced tea. There are notes of cinnamon, ginger and clove. The main note in the tea is vanilla, though, which is quite lovely. This one comes across more as a spiced vanilla cookie like a snicker doodle, or it really reminds me of those Belgian Biscoff cookies of which I have an unhealthy obsession. Now, I can be happy with them in tea form. This will definitely be a repurchase for me.
Onto how this compares to Oatmeal Raisin Cookie……the spices are very similar. Still, the raisin note is the top flavor note I catch. I do love a good oatmeal raisin cookie, but for me the top note of vanilla is preferred.
