Do the twist

If you like Tie Kwan Yin, you’ll love this dark and unique twist on the classic. Grown on a third generation, family-owned garden in the Shire Highlands of Malawi in Africa, this rich oolong is inspired by the teas of Taiwan. Each leaf is hand-plucked and twisted by an amazing team of 15 tea-crafting local women. The result? A beautiful silver-tipped oolong with a uniquely earthy, toasty flavour. Sipdown! 165/365!

This tea is really good! It’s unlike oolongs I’ve had before – I can taste some light but pleasant astringency that reminds me of a darjeeling, but the tea is lighter and sweeter than a darj. Some woody notes, heavy on the minerals. Kind of a creamy, minerally sweetness in the aftertaste. Probably not a tea I’d reach for all the time, but the uniqueness of the profile would have made it something to drink when I’m in the mood for something a little different. Regret not picking up 20g or so of this just to have on hand.

I really enjoyed this cuppa last night with our green curry, but at the end of the day, I don’t think I’d reach for it. I’ll leave it for more discerning palates.

Made a pot of this to go with the Thai green curry I made for dinner. Overall I would describe this tea as . . . inoffensive. It has a mild flavor, just grassy enough to distinguish it from a straight black. Not terrible. Not in any way memorable.

Day #10 of tea!

Hurrah, finally a new one. A plain oolong, at that. I don’t get to have these very often. This one’s good, I have to say. Not my favourite (and I still like plain black teas better), but there’s a bit of a fruity taste with this, which I wasn’t expecting. Of course, it’s limited edition, so I shouldn’t get used to it, haha.

At first sip, sweet and somewhat fruity. Then deeper into the cup, this tea has a contrasting earthy flavor. Interesting, but not for me.

Dry leaf: Mild, bright fruit aromas and toasted oats.

Liqueur: Burnt orange color. Smells like poached fruits.

Interesting…I’ll have to try this one. Love all kinds of oolong.
