From DAVIDsTEA

The apple of our eye

What does comfort mean to you? It might be a favourite sweater, an old family recipe or a perfect cup of tea. For us, it’s all about capturing warm and cozy flavours – like this sweet and spicy blend of apple, figs and chai spices. Laced with cinnamon and star anise, it brings back memories of apple picking, piping hot cider and fresh-from-the-oven pies. Basically, it’s like a hug in a cup. And whether you pair it with a good book or some great company, we guarantee it’s as comforting as it gets.

Pretty good! In fall I like brewing my own shortcut apple cider, with juice and spices. The problem is that the sugar content from juice adds up pretty quick. So I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this tea and got a very nice similar flavor from it. Like mild watered down (but calorie free!) apple cider. I quickly returned to buy more. Since its a fruity herbal tea, it always takes a lot more to make each cup and so its not as good value for money, and it also takes a lot more time to steep to get the flavors out of the fruit pieces – so its not something I make when Im in a hurry but the end result is quite nice nevertheless.

I have realized that you cannot measure Davidstea mixes with the huge pieces of fruits or spices like you would tea. Instead I try to make sure I have a good mixture of the different components, by eye.
The first steeping was 5 minutes and had a wonderful spiced flavor, the apple was the third flavor. But it was very tasty. The second steeping retained the spices flavor but the apple and fig became much weaker. I think that both steepings are recommended.

Sipdown (308)

I have been tricked by this tea twice now. I bought this back when it was still Spiced Apple and then realized it had ingredients I usually avoid. I rated it a 47. Then, for some reason, I bought it again under the name Baked Apple Chai at the end of last year. So, that was dumb. Thankfully, I only bought a sample and this tea is so heavy that I just dumped the entire bag into one Nordic Mug.

I honestly would have kept avoiding this blend forever but today I kept wandering into the room where my teas are and just struggling to pick one to drink. So I decided to utilize my excel inventory and randomly select a tea that way. After putting in the formulas to randomly select a tea, strawberry matcha came up but I literally just finished the mango matcha so I did it again and this tea came up. I highly considered doing it again but decided to commit.

This hot cup is not good. It’s just not a good tea. My preferences are obviously factoring into that decision. It’s just waaaaaayyyyy too sweet, but with a spice note trying to break through. Honestly, I am just kicking myself while also hoping this doesn’t get another name change and I stupidly buy it again. I hoped the rating would improve but it’s staying at that 47.

Ha, we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one!

In fairness, there is a flavor preference that you have and I do not that would be quite critical to the enjoyment of the blend :P

Tea smells delicious like apple and spices. It tasted exactly like it too but was a tad weak in flavor (I used DT perfect spoon to scoop the tea in the filter and steeped it 5 minutes). I tried it again but added a bit more than last time and steeped it an extra minute and it was stronger and better.

I got the “tea of the month” sampler for Christmas. Suprise—- I haven’t tried 8/12 of these teas! I wanted to try this one first since it seemed Christmasy.

I used the whole sample tin. This was a fairly good spiced apple cider. The cinnamon and star anise are the most prominent notes, followed by the apple. This tea is heavy though so I can see that it would be expensive to stock. I quite enjoy apple teas.
I don’t like this one quite as much as the one they had last year (or maybe 2 years ago?) called sweet apple cider (I think).

I love this one. Not much to say outside of it’s a perfect apple cinnamon tea and reminds me of Hot Cinnamon Spice. Can’t decide if I should get more or stick to getting my cupboard numbers down a bit…

I’ve always been a fan of these kinds of teas, liking the slightly spicy apple-ly, so I was happy that DAVIDsTea had decided to make a Spiced Apple tea for not only Fall but part of the permanent collection.

What do I think of it? I love it actually, it is not as spicy as the Celestial Seasonings Spiced Apple, but it’s pretty close, so I’m happy.
The spices are quite nice, the star anise is a nice featured ingredient, but nothing really overpowers anything else. The apple pieces are HUGE, so this is a heavy tea, but I don’t find it that big of a problem.

I will be definitely be adding a tin of this to my tea collection on my next order.

EDIT: Lowered my score because this tea love didn’t last long. It started to taste overly artificial after a while. I finished off what I had and abandoned this tea. (July 2019)

I’ve been avoiding this one for two reasons. 1) I already have a bunch of Forever Nuts and I was worried they’d be similar and 2) I hate anise. However I ended up buying 25g anyway and it really is pretty tasty. Predominantly cinnamon and cooked apple with lighter notes of other spices and brown sugar. Very nice fall tea

Sounds tasty! Perhaps I should pick up a little sample :)

This is basically apple cider. Which is a good thing! I’m not really a big fan of apple cider, but I can appreciate what this has going for it – spicy, sweet and very autumn-esque. I’m not a huge ainse fan, either, and I know there’s some in this, so there’s that to deal with, as well. But this is totally drinkable.

I tried a sample of this at the store yesterday. It’s spot-on for hot spiced apple cider. Unfortunately, it made my mouth tingle. I have had allergic reactions to real apples before but never to processed, baked, or tisaned apple. Not sure if this was a fluke, a function of how it was processed, or a fun new level in the development of my allergies…

Flyawaybirdie

Ah. Is this what you meant? Here I was worried you went swelled up or broke into hives or something. Cider sounds yummy though.

Kaylee

Yeah, I’m just very cautious because tingly mouth can escalate to inflammation/respiratory distress and I do not want to risk it. I had a similar reaction to DavidsTea’s Ginger Beer without knowing there’s apple in it.
