Honey I’m home

Is there any activity more whole heartedly autumnal than apple picking? Not that we can think of. And when it comes to apples, the Honeycrisp is king. Juicy, sweet and full of flavour, it’s a fall treat we look forward to every year. And this refreshing, fruit-packed tea is just like biting into a fresh Honeycrisp straight off the tree. Whether you drink it straight up or spike it with a splash of bourbon, it’s the perfect way to bring the orchard home. Oh honey!

I like this one! One of the few teas, I think, that I prefer the taste over the smell. I was lamenting the loss of Mom’s Apple Pie this season, so I was pleased to see a new apple-flavoured green tea show up. I had a lot of green tea in my 10g sample, so I can’t complain there.

Meh. I liked the idea of green tea flavoured with lightly sour freshly-picked apples and this was the tea I was most excited about in DT’s Fall 2015 collection. However, when I got my hands on it, I immediately found a weird chemical smell. Almost like nail polish remover. And there is merely any green tea in it. Like someone said in another review, this would be good for someone transitioning from soda or juice to tea. I’ll give the rest of my bag it to someone else.

Thank you, lovely Steepsters, for all the birthday wishes! I had a lovely day, and was given a great deal of tea, which needs a lot of cataloging, trying, and enjoying. Yay!
So in the spirit of “I have a million new teas in the cupboard” I’m working on killing some older teas of mine.
The scent of this was bang on, but it never quite gave me the apple joy I was hoping for. Alas! But it was nice while it lasted.

M

Happy birthday! I know what you mean- I’m still giddy over the tea stash I was given by various people for Christmas. This is a great hobby to have in terms of potential gift giving. ;)

This one smells amazing! Very sweet apple and the tea is mostly apple chunks.

I over leafed this sucker and brewed hot. The flavor is sweet, very distinctly juicy golden apple that has been baked lightly (not apple mush flavor). There’s hibiscus in there for colour, adding a golden hue, but doesn’t add any tart. This one is also weak flavored, if you were hoping for strong turkish apple this isn’t it.

My beef with this tea is the green tea is totally lost. They should of just turned this into a herbal as the green in it is doing nothing. I fed this tea to my tea hating husband and he liked it as he tasted no tea flavor. That said, it’s a tea for kids or people transitioning into tea from soda/juice. If you like apple herbals, this tea is worth a sampling.

EDIT: I just made this iced with the remainder of the sample I purchased. Nope, tastes worse iced as it came out sweeter (to be expected) but has a very artificial taste. minus 10 points.

Seeing that I am supposed to be catching a ride back to my home in the middle of nowhere this weekend (my no-more-than-two-week stay in Edmonton has turned into TWO-AND-A-HALF MONTHS, ugh), I thought I’d pick up some of the new teas and stock up on more Chocolate Macaroon to have with me in the wilderness.

This tea is full of surprises. I didn’t get it the previous time I was at DAVIDs because I automatically thought I wouldn’t find it that great, but this time, I blindly grabbed it without even bothering smelling or looking at the dry leaf.

Now that I’m doing both of those things at home, I’m thinking, “Really? This is supposed to be a green tea? Really?” It does smell like apple, apple candy. However, once you start brewing up this bad boy, it morphs into another being. Red liquor. Whoa! So there is hibiscus in this. The dry leaf went straight into a tea bag from the pouch so I didn’t even see it.

So of course, flavour-wise, there’s that tart hibiscus bossing around the other notes in here. Maybe gently bossing around, to be fair. After all, I do taste both apple and pear. This could be nice cold brewed, but I only have around 6g left. Not sure if I should cold brew a tiny batch or just make one more cup hot tomorrow.

Appropriate for fall? Yes. Repurchase-worthy? Likely not. But worth trying at all? Sure.

Fay

I would suggest a hot cup. I was disappointed with it as a cold brew.

Thanks for the tip!

Absolutely agree with you. Don’t understand why they didn’t just make this as a herbal. The green tea is totally masked and adds nothing to it.

I’m not a huge fan of apples or green tea, but, to my surprise, I enjoy this tea over ice.

I don’t find that the green tea in this blend is bitter or that the hibiscus overwhelms the blend. This tea is essentially all apple. I find that it tastes predominantly of fresh, juicy, lightly sweet apple and has a bit of a candy apple finish. The pear flavor is lighter than I would’ve liked, but I don’t mind that. The tea is called Honeycrisp Apple after all.

It’s a nice tea and I’ll probably keep it in my drawer at work as an afternoon teatime option. It’s not my favorite tea from the fall collection but I have purchased 6 ounces of it to sip over the next few months.

If you love teas with bold apple flavor and don’t mind teas that are on the sweet side, I’d say this is worth a try.

This tea is sweet with apple flavor and could use more of the green tea flavor. BUT I DO REALLY LIKE IT. Nothing wrong with it in fact I bought a bunch of this tea. It’s enjoyable hot or iced.

Finally reviewing this tea.

I received a 5 gram sample of this from my most recent order from DAVIDs. When I selected this one, I didn’t realize it was a green tea, but that’s alright for just trying it out.

Anyone who has been following my reviews knows that I do not like teas that are overly sweet or green tea mixed with fruity flavours, so I am already biased against this one. I brewed up the entire 5 gram sample as one large mug of tea, and let it cool in the fridge (actually left it in there for a couple days, oops). I did take a sip while it was still hot but it was too sweet and figured it would be better cooled. Turns out only slightly so. The main taste is apple but this one is just too sweet in my opinion. I also noticed a lot of (green tea?) dust which makes me question the quality of this tea. Overall it’s too sweet and the green tea adds nothing to the mix, so that makes me dislike this tea even more since it’s “disrespectful” to the green tea leaves (if that makes sense, lol). Def will not repurchase; I actually dumped about 3/4 of this cup down the drain because it was too sugary sweet. So far I’m in the minority as I’m the only one who really dislikes this tea, but hey, everyone is different.

I love sweet apple teas, but I can totally understand how it’s not for everyone. Sometimes I like the smell of some teas and not the taste so I just brew up a cup and use it to scent the room like teapotpurri – hahaha!

Jessimicka

The sweetness of this one freaked me out!! I very rarely put sweetener in my tea, so I was like what the hell is this? Did someone sneak SUGAR in my tea??
Actually I just had an idea. I might brew what I have left very concentrated, ice it and add it to club soda… I think it’ll dull down the sweetness and be refreshing..hmm!

CelticBrew

I’m steering clear of this one with the hibiscus in it.

Kristal

@Canadianadia, what an interesting way to use up tea! If I don’t like a tea, I will tuck a spoonful into every pitcher of iced tea I make until it’s used up ;).

@Jessimicka, I was shocked at how sweet this tea was. It’s been a while since I’ve had them, but I’ve had other apple teas like Forever nuts and that Apple cider tea from last fall and I don’t recall them being this sweet. This is crazy.

@CelticBrew, I actually didn’t notice any hibiscus taste in this one (the sugary apple taste overpowered it), but I totally understand your misgivings with hibiscus!

I love the scent of the dry leaf for this one, but to me it’s a distinctly artificial apple; definitely brings to mind a candy rather than an orchard.

Brewed, I’m getting more of a conventional fruit smell, and the taste is mainly fruit as well, with only a bit of a “candy” edge. I notice the apple and pear in equal measures. Very sweet without any additions, and there’s so much fruit and added flavor that I don’t notice the green tea at all. If this is your thing, it’s delicious!

Fall Collection 2015 Tea Taste #3

I always loved DAVIDsTea’s apple teas for Fall, but this one is a bit lighter on the apple when compared to the two previous years: Sweet Apple Cider and Mom’s Apple Pie (Please come back to us!).

Its not horrible, it does taste quite nice and light, but I do miss the tongue-raping apple flavor from the usual apple flavors, I even let this one steep longer than the required time.

Not sure if I want a tin of this one, but maybe a skinny tin just to have in case I want some.
