Grilled Pineapple

I was pretty excited to try this one. I didn’t hate this tea, but there’s something strange that I can’t put my finger on. It has a nice sweet pineapple taste. The toasted rice adds an interesting toasty flavour. Well, it make the pineapple have a “grilled” flavour (duh). I have 15g of this, I don’t plan on buying any more. My only complaint, this is so weird I know. The smell almost smells like fart. I KNOW, YUCK! That thought kind of ruined the tea for me. It’s pretty good, I do like it! It met my expectations.

Not a good tea. Tried it in store and was not able to finish it. Pineapple is not strong enough while something else takes over. The combination of ingredients is not good. Only tried it iced.

The dry leaf of this smells good! I love pineapple and I do really enjoy it on the grill so I had to add this one to the cart when I was looking to restock a few items (yes I am there now!). The color of the liquid is also pretty, a sort of dirty, dark yellow. It also smells pretty darn good. Trying for a more educational sniff of this, I might be getting some of the roasted or popped rice that are listed in the ingredients. The taste is enjoyable I am getting the pineapple and could call it grilled (although that portion may come from the smell as you drink). I’m also getting an apple taste out of this. I did not have to add sweetener to this one, likely due to the candied pineapple along with the dried chunks. I must try this iced, even though my trials with making greens iced usually fail. Maybe a cold brew first.

I tried a hot cup of this tea for the first time today. It was very smooth and the pinapple flavor was outstanding. It was sweet, but without sweetener I thought that it could use a little more sweet. If I were an ice tea drinker, I think that I would drink gallons of it iced.

cold brew of this and it’s ALMOST pretty good. I really like the pineapple flavour that David’s has going on here, but there’s something in here that leaves a taste that i can’t get behind. In other words, like many of david’s tea’s blends – i prefer to sample them once and leave them be. If they were to make just a straight up pineapple tea…then i might be onboard. :)

I had a little mini-panic attack when I checked David’s website and wasn’t able to find this tea. I thought it had disappeared before I was able to renew my stash.

I adore genmaicha. I don’t know whether this blend falls into the category of genmaicha proper, but for me, it has that sort of toasty rice and green tea thing going on.

Initially, I had rated this tea at 82, but now I am hoisting it to 90 because I would like to have this tea around. Often.

The toasty rice and rooibos provides a bit of groundedness to this bright bright pineapple flavour. It even has that post- sip acidic pineapple kick you get from real pineapple.

I used my usual approach to green tea steeping. Boil water and walk away for a few minutes, four or five minutes to let the boiling water rest before steeping the tea for a minute or two. I steeped the tea twice and both times the flavour of the tea was just lovely.

No additions, as usual.

While I don’t like this one as much as my beloved Pineapple Oolong (rest in peace), this one was still delicious as an iced blend. Not sure how I’d like it hot (though I’m sure I’ll eventually try it, it is a flavoured green, after all), but this will definitely be in the iced tea rotation this summer.

I am absolutely obsessed with pineapple and every tea that David’s Tea comes out with that has pineapple. That was not the case with this tea. I ordered this tea iced, walked it of the store, took a sip and instantly went back and got another tea. This was the worst tea I’ve ever tasted and I love almost any tea at David’s tea. I’m not picky at all, usually. Do not recommend this tea AT ALL

This is the Tea of the Month for June 2015 at David’s Tea. It makes a really good iced tea. I haven’t tried it hot yet, but the iced version was fabulous. It reminds me of the iced versions of Cool Cactus and Shooting Starfruit. It has a lighter flavour but the scent that the tea gives off is strong and heavenly. The tea got better and better as I sipped it. I am very happy that I picked up a tin of this. I will definitely be picking up some more in the future as well.

I just realized that every tea I drank today (including the one I have left to log) was a green tea. That was definitely not intentional, but kind of hilarious given how much I’m always blathering on about how that’s my least favourite type of tea.

This is actually so much better hot than it was cold brewed, so I’ll definitely be upping my rating a little bit from the 50 I initially gave it – the roasty notes are much more on point; a little like a normal/regular Genmaicha instead of that burnt gnarly mess. It’s just the pineapple in the blend that’s… Weird.

I remember not loving the Pineapple Barley from Lupicia; the dichotomy of roasted notes and pineapple in that one was off too. So maybe it does have a little less to do with DT’s pineapple than initially thought though. Regardless, still disappointed I didn’t love this blend though. I so wanted to.
