Sweet anticipation

Is there anything more summery than a big bowl of strawberry shortcake? We look forward to strawberry season all year, just for that familiar dish of ripe, juicy berries, golden pastry and a cloud of whipped cream. But with this sweet, juicy blend, you can enjoy the taste of summer anytime, anywhere. It’s a dreamy mix of black tea with sweet strawberries and toasty pieces of brittle – ice it with a bit of cream for the full experience.

Ingredients: Black tea, brittle pieces, strawberry.

This is lovely, sweet, and fruity. The strawberry is nice and natural – not artificial at all – and the brittle adds a nice subtle nutty flavour.

When I opened the package, I actually smelled strawberries and chocolate, for some reason. It took a couple seconds, but my brain could finally rearrange it into strawberry shortcake. When it’s brewed, it smells like strawberry shortcake. And when I drank it, strawberry shortcake! It’s everything but the intense sugar. Very tasty. Now I just have to try it iced.

Had this as an iced latte last week. Thanks for the DAVIDsTEA staff who gave this to me on the house, you rock!

I found it tart, but maybe there was not enough agave nectar to my taste. It wasn’t a bad thing though, you have your bitter strawberries and your sweet ones! Very refreshing. Think I will try this warm sometime.

Yuuuum. In the bag this smells just like its name, and also once steeped. Tastes deliciouis, very strawberry-y. I possibly oversteeped, found the black tea aspect a little overpowering. Tea has such a learning curve! But regardless how I messed it up, this one is a keeper. Now to try it iced!

I had high expectations for this one, since this tea’s flavor profile is similar to the cupcake teas. The smell knocked my socks off! I brewed it for 5 minutes, but, naturally, my old Easy Tea Steeper locked up on me, so it ended up adding an extra 30 seconds or so. At first, I got more black tea than flavor, which was disappointing, but that might have been because I had sipped it right after sipping some Tropicalia. I tried it again a few minutes after; the taste was more balanced, and much more pleasant.

I am continually getting frustrated with the lack of black tea taste in teas from this brand. Steep it forever—you’ll barely taste the tea. Mild strawberry/caramel taste, little else.

Tried this tea for the firs time this afternoon – amazing (although I will admit a certain bias and love towards anything strawberry)! Lovely rounded strawberry aroma (both loose tea leaves and once it’s brewed); slightly sweet finish, brought out well by the addition of half-and-half. I brewed mine a bit longer than the recommended 5-7 minutes, but the strawberry flavor was well-rounded, and was not diminished by having added my half-and-half; had a creamy, strawberry finish. Just lovely.

I must be in the minority here, but this tea just doesn’t cut it for me. I bought a small 25g bag and was completely intoxicated by the smell. That brittle… heavenly. Strawberries.. wasn’t really smelling much of them. And then there was that granola smell that came out of nowhere and surprised me. I looked back at the package to make sure I’d picked up the right tea. I had. So I shrugged and made a cup. That smell of buttery brittle went away almost completely once steeped, and it smelled like a caramel tart with strawberry topping, which wasn’t too bad but I was expecting more of a luscious, fruity taste with a buttery tone to it, like that of Buttered Rum. Alas, this was only the beginning of my disappointment.
The steeped tea wasn’t bad, it was actually quite good, but I could not get over that bitterness that began creeping in about a quarter way through the cup and got increasingly stronger and stronger until I couldn’t even finish it. With a quarter left to go, I just tossed the tea out. No more strawberries, no more creaminess (however faint it may have been).. it all became caramel and bitter.
I’m not a fan of the black tea base in this one. I think it could have been fantastic as an herbal.

SO have you ever had A strawberry shortcake? In your glass? Oh you havn’t? that’s because you havn’t had the Strawberry Shortcake by David’s Tea. NOw I got this as a sample with my Swamp Water and Kiwi..and trust me.. Its Good. It is really really good BUT I just can’t see myself drinking this as a part of my everyday regiment. It is savory.. and creamy. While It Is Great.. it just isn’t for me.

Tried this iced, in store to take with me to class and… am probably even more ambivalent about it than Tropicalia.

Black tea usually isn’t my thing, but I love strawberries and hazelnut, so I figured I’d give it a whirl. That whirl? Definitely creamy, lots of strawberry, but not too exciting. I actually think Strawberry Shortcake would be better hot than iced, because I really only got that creaminess at the very beginning when I had it, before too much ice from the flash cooling had melted. Hot, a touch of honey or brown sugar and a dash of milk, I think this would be much, much better, and perfect for black tea drinkers.
