Ice Cream Cake

If you follow me you know I am by no means a tea purist. If it’s got a dessert-like name it’s probably going to make its way into my mug and belly.

Storms knocked out our power for nearly 24 hours and took work’s power with it for nearly 48 hours. Unfortunately work got power back early enough this morning to make us all come in but not early enough for the AC to work until at least halfway through the day. Did I mention there’s also an excessive heat warning today? So yea. Ice cream tea? Sounds fantastic and would have sounded better had I thought to brew it and ice it.

I did make the critical mistake of sweetening this tea because I sweeten all my teas. With this one though, I don’t believe it necessary. Never one to let a little extra sugar dissuade me I will persevere even though it’s currently a little too sweet, even for me.

I can see where people are coming from with the neopolitan ice cream comparisons as I do get a hint of strawberry somehow. Very smooth and creamy taste. I’m not getting the cake notes but I may have squelched them with the extra sugar.

I’m guessing this will rebrew well too.

In the bag, this smells like Starburst to me. I was really excited for that taste. I drank this yesterday, so my memory isn’t completely accurate but I just remember a sort of general sweet taste, and nothing spectacular. I’ll wait until I can give a proper reveiw to rate it though.

I was very excited when this tea came out because I love love love freeze dried ice cream. I added milk to my cup. While steeping I can smell the ice cream and the general sweetness, although it smells slightly artificial. The taste is pleasant and very sweet. It’s not a tea I would drink every day but its a nice treat once in awhile. The only issue I have is that it leaves behind a lot of residue in my infuser!

A delicious dessert sort of tea. I added milk and a touch of sugar to make it extra creamy and awesome this morning. I can really taste the strawberry ice cream in a sort of Neapolitan mix of flavors. Definitely enjoyable for me :)

Enough people have reviewed this one already that I won’t get into the details of the tea itself so much as my reactions to it. Dry it looks really cute with the sprinkles and that in there. When I pulled the infuser though I regretted all that cute stuff since it left a ring of . . . melted fake ice cream maybe? . . . around the entire thing. The tea also had that slightly creamy floaty thing that Lime Gelato and Southern Belle were known for.

Tastewise it is a really nice sweet creamy tea. I got a vanilla cream from it, and was surprised that when I added some sugar I actually lost some of the flavour. I didn’t add milk but I suspect that for me this one is best sipped black. It isn’t one that I’m going to rush out to stock up on, especially since it left residue at the bottom of my cup, but I definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to.

Tea to go…latte style. My friend and I got this today, with the works (but soy) and it is really good. It looked like swampwater in the steeper though. It tastes pretty chocolatey to me, but we did have chocolate syrup added. I don’t know what this would be like straight, but it would probably be good. I don’t know whether I will get the tin, but I might get 30g or so of it. Though, it was a beautiful day out, here in Victoria…it actually felt like spring, and maybe a bit of summer at times…so part of me was thinking of an iced tea…but this was a nice treat. I don’t usually go for tea lattes.

I’m really not sure what to think of this one on its own. I feel like it’s okay, but not fantastic. I dunno. I added milk, no sugar to this one, which made it nice.
I didn’t like the slick on this one. It seemed really bad compared to what I’m use to. I think I’d be up to trying this one in a paper filter and seeing if that helps lessen the slick.

Anyway, I think I would add this one to another one to finish it. I’d be up to mixing it with a plain black tea. It would add to the base and lessen the sweetness.

The girl helping me tried to convince me that I needed more than 10g since, “What if you end up really liking it?”

I think I’ll stick with my 10g, since this tea is not for me. Brewed there is an underlying smell and taste like cherry cough syrup. Maybe I brewed it wrong? I’ll have to try again, but so far this looks like it’ll go in the “company tea” pile…

I don’t know, I can’t decide what to think of this one. Maybe I didn’t use enough tea, although I used a tiny bit more than recommended, but this just didn’t taste very tea-like. It had a bit of an artificial strawberry/chocolate/creamy flavor, which was nice, but it just wasn’t that strong. Next time I’ll double the amount of tea. I also found that despite the reviews saying this is pretty sweet, I needed to sweeten it a tad. Granted, I sweeten pretty much everything a little bit, so this isn’t out of the norm for me. I found it sort of weird that the ice cream balls (?) didn’t dissolve completely, I had expected them to be made of mostly sugar, so it was weird when they stayed intact through steeping.
This was alright, and I do want to try it iced. I’ll certainly enjoy what I have left, but wouldn’t repurchase.

Honestly, who thought of making tea taste like cake?! They are brilliant!!!
This tea smells like nail polish or it’s remover when you stick your face into the big tin, I ended up coughing for a while, so don’t do that.
I can’t believe the ingredients, freeze-dried ice cream thats crazy! Anyways Ice Cream Cake itself is not eaten hot so obvious you have to drink it iced.
I had this as an iced soy latte and it’s by far my favourite of the cake collection! JESUS MURPHY it’s good. Just like ice cream cake or a milkshake. So yummy. Nice and sweet. If you don’t like sweet it’s probably not for you. So ignore the weird smell of the dry tea and drink this as an iced latte and be thankful it’s only 15 calories and not the over 100 calories that come in the cake itself!!!
