Caramel Spice

Can I join everyone else is asking ’where’s the caramel"? I can smell it pretty clearly in the dry tea but the tea itself mostly tastes like orange peel with spice. There also something about the citrus flavours combined with this particular black tea base that comes across as being a bit unpleasantly bitter. I noticed a similar problem with the La La Lemon blend.

I’m not thrilled with this one at all – I’ll give it another go and if I still don’t like it I’ll probably put it up for adoption.

You know that scene in every Christmas movie ever, when it starts to lightly snow and everyone looks up at the sky in wonder? That was my afternoon! Except instead of learning an important lesson about the true meaning of Christmas, I was scrubbing out a frozen-over litterbox and trying to get cat urine off a vacuum cleaner.

I think I deserve a cup of tea and a slice of homemade fruitcake.

Caramel Spice is just the right amount of sweet and spice to warm me from the inside out. Kept the water under boiling and a short steep time to keep the cinnamon under control.

Received this as a sample. Smelled strongly of orange peels, so I was perplexed to not see orange peels listed as an ingredient. As it steeped I knew those were indeed orange peels floating to the top, so I went to check the website and the description mentions orange peels.
I’m with others, this is very orange spice. But there’s a strong dark caramel note. It’s nice on it’s own but I added some brown sugar and a few drops of cream. Oooh. This is unlike anything I’ve ever had. This is probably the nicest spiced tea I’ve had, and definitely the best orange spice tea I’ve had. The spices are complex and very nicely balanced. Just the right hint of cinnamon. Smells and tastes very buttery. This is growing on me with every sip! Yum! Like everyone’s saying though, definitely think orange spice. Buttery caramely orange spice. This seems like it would go great with a splash of rum.

It’s tasty, but not really caramelly. More orange spice tasting, with sweetness from the mulberries, but not caramel sweetness.

I’m glad I have a sample of this. It is nice and warming and I think it will be excellent for lattes.

Happy Steepster birthday to me! One year ago, I started this fun adventure of joining this community and logging a big passion of mine… tea! It has been an awesome ride so far, and I love that I’ve gotten to try as many teas as I have. I have to say, I have the best husband in the world for being so understanding so I can really explore and enjoy my obsession. He is the best.

So, today for my ‘birthday’ I decided I wanted to try something completely different. I’ve had this one a while, but haven’t tried it yet… shame on me!
This tea is so delicious! I’m really enjoying it! It has some lovely spice flavourings to it, and I absolutely LOVE the mulberries in it. I haven’t noticed much for the caramel flavour though.

Anyways… when I was growing up, my parents house actually had a mulberry tree in the front yard (technically it was more in the neighbours yard, but it came over ours). They are such a messy tree, but they also produce some amazing fruit! One year I remember my mom making mulberry pies. They were delicious! I use to pick them as snacks during/after bike rides and when I was just hanging with friends. There were many trees around our area, so I never had to go very far to find them. So, I really enjoy mulberries if you couldn’t tell. (And funny thing is, I haven’t tried the mulberry madiness I think it was called by Davidstea).

So, I must say, this tea is so good. I’m glad that I have some and that I get the chance to enjoy it for a while. I’d like to try this one as a latte too!

Not nice, not nice at all! I couldn’t even finish a third of the cup :(
Something in this set off my allergies, but based on the ingredients, I have no idea what. Swallowing even a few sips was difficult, as each one caused me to cringe reflexively. There is definitely orange in here, but I doubt that is it. Mulberries? naw… natural flavours?! *sighs…

WOW this is gorgeous!!! This is a cup full of sweet and slightly nutty and smoky orangey goodness with a slight tartness from the mulberries. It is sort of caramel flavoured…maybe more like a flavoured dark treacle but still a fine treat. The only issue is that there is no noticeable spicy tones at all.

Colour is similar to honey.
Smell is sweet and orangey, like orange candy.

I wish I had more of this :(

I felt much the same about this one as I did about pumpkin chai. A nice black, but the added flavours really weren’t strong enough. I got more orange than anything else, which is sad as I was hoping for a nice caramel flavour. Ended up gifting this to a friend I know likes it.

Trying Caramel Spice on this relaxing, decidedly non-shopping Boxing Day.

It smells delicious in the bag. The mulberries looked a little odd to me, but then again I’ve never seen dried mulberries before. The whole time it was steeping I wasn’t sure if I should go with the low end of steeping time or not. Previous notes will show that I have a tendency to oversteep.

I have to say, now that I’m halfway through the mug, that I’m not a fan of this one. Like others, I can’t taste the caramel part of the tea (which was the part that I was most looking forward to). It’s very citrusy and spicy to the point that it’s bitter on my tongue. Maybe I did steep this too long. Maybe I should try the hint and add a little something to it – although I’ve never tried adding alcohol to my tea.

I always hate saying that I don’t like a tea, but I don’t think this one will be returning after I’m done.

I recieved a sample of this with my last order, and I am finally trying it today. I was pleasantly surprised with this tea; I almost expected not to like it based on the reviews here. I’m not sure I would buy more, mainly because there are so many teas that I love or still want to try, but it’s not bad at all.

Both the dry leaves and the brewed tea have a great fall smell, and I was sure I smelled oranges. I checked the ingredients on the package and decided that mulberries must have a citrusy smell, but after reading the description on here I think orange peel must have been left off the package! At least I’m not going crazy. The tea is comforting and it is a perfect balance as far as strong/weak goes (I just used the whole sample in my little 2 cup teapot). My first cup had a bit of brown sugar, and my second one was just the tea. I think I liked it better with the sugar, but neither were bad!
