  • “2022 Bird & Blend Advent calendar Day #22 Best tea of the day so far. I really enjoyed the citrusy blend with the lavender. There’s a creaminess to it that reminds me of a nice lemon sherbet...” Read full tasting note

Kicking back and trying to unwind after a rough day of learning curve fail. My new 3D printer has it out for me. Fortunately this tea does not! Not a huge rooibos fan, but this blend has enough flavors that the rooibos takes only a supporting roll. I get lavender at the front of the sip, then it quickly turns to lemon chiffon, a rooibos blend I’m familiar with. Did they just add some lavender to lemon chiffon? Maybe I’ll have to try that with the LC I have! Ha! Just what I need in my life… more learning curves!

Additional notes: Sipped this one down.  Really it was missing the AMAZING bright lemon it originally had… and mostly reminded me of an Earl grey with lavender in the end…  So if the sample faded, I’m not sure how quick I would be to restock.  Maybe if it were ever on SALE….
2020 Sipdowns: 59

SO B&B’s sale started last night.  As usual, I get like a kid on Christmas morning and can’t wait to see the deals and in the bright eyed haze, completely forget that their website is a pain during the sale every single time.  This time the pain started minute one of the hour long pre-presale link.  It took 55 minutes to check out, RIGHT before the hour pre-presale was almost done. This morning at 10am, most everything in the sale is gone except for the 10-20% off items or things that aren’t actually tea like the little teapots.  I managed to grab a handful of things last night.  Possibly they will keep adding things to the site again, as the sale is supposed to last a few days.  They had some cheap teas that were retiring, I bought Lime Cola which I loved, and Beet It which was great as a fruit tea when I tried the sample before.  Also: Rainbow Chai, Fruit Pie Chai, The Night Before Christmas, and Yule Log.  I was really hoping to at least see Figgy Pud and Salted Caramel Lebkuchen, but they didn’t.   It was mainly Christmas teas from 2019… so they didn’t really bring too many OLDER teas back. I really wish B&B would learn supply and demand already!  And why only have the sale on the limited teas?   I would love sales on their tea wall.  But I’m a B&B addict and can’t help supporting them a LITTLE bit, at least during the sales (if the darn checkout lets me anyway).  I still have a buyban on, but I didn’t really get myself anything for my long ago Bday this year… I’ll just have to aim for six sipdowns this week. And I’ve really been enjoying revisiting some B&B teas lately!

AJRimmer

Yeah I woke up at 2 AM for the sale, but went back to bed after 35 minutes of trouble. Got up normally at 8, and was able to make my order with no problems. There wasn’t really anything I was pumped about either, so it was a very small order.

tea-sipper

Yeah, and the FREE SHIPPING doesn’t hurt. :D Or B&B should just have sales all the time.

I woke up at 1am to try to place an order, tried for 80 minutes, and the 1 item I really wanted sold out. I was so disappointed.

tea-sipper

sorry Amanda. What was the one item you really wanted?

amandastory516

That’s okay! I really didn’t need anything, but frustrating nonetheless. I was trying for the sticky chai trio.

tea-sipper

Yeah, I ALMOST bought the sticky chai trio but didn’t. I would have split some with you, if I did! Sometimes they restock things. I will let you know if I see it again.

amandastory516

Appreciate that, thank you!

Martin Bednář

Yeah, I didn’t pull the trigger, luckily for my wallet, unlucky for tea-lover.
But I still have plenty to drink (and I have ordered some from Canada with free shipping too)

May Flowers! I grabbed this as a sampler set when the tea-company-formally-known-as-Bluebird put out their Dreamtime Collection, but this is actually my first time trying it. The ingredients are pretty similar to the Lavender Lemon Potion tea by Tealyra I like, though there are a few notable differences; this one has a rooibos base, and uses apple for sweetness rather than the creamy white chocolate and vanilla drop elements. I’m hoping it’ll be stronger on the lavender, since that was pretty much my only complaint with Lavender Lemon Potion.

I love the scent of this tea; it certainly has a strong lemon-lavender aroma from the bag. Brewed up, I get quite a bit of sweetness from the rooibos, which actually makes the citrus lemon flavor come off a lot more softly than I was expecting from the aroma. It is certainly not nearly the sort of strong, tangy lemony flavor from Lavender Lemon Potion. As for the lavender element, it is more pronounced than in Lavender Lemon Potion, but still not as pronounced as I’d like. It does blend well with the lemon note, so there is sort of a balanced, floral minty touch right off the citrus, but both flavors just come off fairly subdued because of the strong sweetness of the rooibos base.

I do enjoy the flavor of this tea, but I don’t enjoy it as much as the other lemon lavender tea I’ve tried recently. What I may do is try blending them together to try to get a stronger lavender flavor out of the other tea, and since the citrus is really strong in the other tea, hopefully it’ll mute out some of the rooibos here. It’ll be worth the experiment, in any event.

Apparently I was on a latte kick last night, because this was my pre-bedtime cup. And I slept so well. I’m thinking this tea made the difference, because I haven’t slept that soundly in a long time.

Sometimes tea that’s supposed to inspire sleep gives me weird, super-vivid nightmares, but fortunately that wasn’t the case here. I’ve more or less identified passionflower as the cause of that, but it doesn’t explain why B&B’s Dozy Girl does the same thing…
