Tiramisu Oolong

I haven’t had the pleasure of trying real tiramisu but I’m sure I would love it. Not knowing what the dessert is and sipping this, I’m sure it gives the tea an advantage. I see HUGE marshmallow root pieces and some cocoa nibs, which seems a little odd for a green oolong base. But the results are tasty enough. At least no gasoline chocolate flavor. But I would have liked MORE of the chocolate/marshmallow flavors. One marshmallow root was huge! The three steeps were similar tasting – just not enough tiramisu for me. But the oolong is a nice unobtrusive base to use for a flavored oolong.

Yum, I liked this one. I does need more chocolate, but one could never had too much chocolate right? I love the creamy icing flavor, roasty and cake notes. I also got a decent second infusion that lets you sample the oolong base more.

Day 2 of 52teas 12 Teas of Christmas

Okay yum. I was a bit iffy about this one when I scratched the panel to reveal what it was, because I dislike actual tiramisu. I needn’t have worried, though, because this tea is delicious! I am a fan of oolongs, and prefer them plain, but I think I will add a little sweetener next time to fully bring out the dessert aspect of it. The flavour is initially similar to a milk oolong, which then leads to the cream flavour becoming more prominent and full-bodied. The marshmallow root really works here, and I think the cocoa nibs, while they do add a mild chocolatiness, mostly contribute to the tang which makes me translate the flavour as sweet mascarpone rather than just cream. The espresso is mild but definitely present, and hits you while the cream still lingers, along with something boozy. I’m not much of a drinker, but I would guess at rum? Just when you think that it’s over, the final lingering note is of vanilla cakiness. I am amazed by how well this captures a tiramisu, and by how much I actually enjoyed it! I don’t think my pouch will last very long at all.

My second day of Christmas tea from the 52 Teas Christmas Box.

Today’s tea sounds very interesting! I’m not a huge fan of tiramisu since it’s coffee related but I do like it on a rare occasion and I’ve been thinking about it for the last year. So this was a nice surprise, and in Oolong form too, very cheeky.

I open the packet and I am met with a milky/creamy and slightly spiced scent with mild sweetness. It reminded me of eggnog.

Once steeped this tastes as creamy as it smells along with a gentle baked cake/bread taste with a touch of spice. It still reminds me of eggnog though compared to Butiki’s eggnog it’s not as creamy nor sweet. It’s flavour as a whole is rather mild and most flavours come through in the after taste, otherwise it’s very much a simple plain milk Oolong. It contains cocoa nib which at a stretch adds some sourness though sometimes I find milk Oolong to be slightly sour anyway.

Does it taste like tiramisu? No, sorry Frank but it does not. Instead it’s a lightly spicy Oolong which is actually rather tasty. Eggnog like enough to be Christmas themed and a joyous atmospheric tea. I’m happy enough with this blend and shall have no issue finishing this one.

52teas’ 12 Teas of Christmas Day 2! (Drank Dec. 3)

I’ve decided to keep all the 12 teas a mystery to me as much as possible – guessing games are most excellent. So! This is a green oolong, with marshmallow root. My initial thought was Kiwi Cheesecake Oolong, but once I opened the bag, I opted to retract that guess – not only can I also now see cacao nibs, it smells quite creamy and delicious… like eggnog, actually! I know there was an eggnog blend at one point, but I thought it was a honeybush/rooibos, so I won’t be able to assign a name to this one, I don’t think, I’ll just have to describe the flavours and see how close I can get.

Steeped, it smells kind of like eggnoggy oolong. Creamy oolong. Not quite milk oolong. Flavour is similar. Definitely eggnog oolong in my mind. Oh yes, there’s the lovely oolong buttery aftertaste, too. This would be an eggnog light on the nutmeg, just for reference – there’s maybe a suggestion of some, but it’s mostly just creaminess. I’d say I’m reasonably satisfied with this one, though the flavour is fairly light.

Ok, so apparently it’s Tiramisu Oolong! That explains the cacao nibs – they didn’t totally fit in with “eggnog”, and also the absence of nutmeg. I don’t really know what tiramisu tastes like, but as I said, this is definitely creamy. Knowing it’s not eggnog, I can taste a hint of chocolate, and now the creaminess is screaming “ice cream”. So, I don’t know. Either way, I think this one’s quite alright. Giving it a rating of 78 – it doesn’t make 80 only because it’s not a tea I’d likely keep in my cupboard. Butiki’s Eggnog/Nutmeg-Dusted Custard/Spiced Nog fill that niche for now, and hopefully for another couple years (haha. I am of course referring to my lovely sizeable stash).

A little oolong, a little chocolate, a little tang…. decent enough tea, but tiramisu it is not.

Hmmm. I’m not having much luck with 52 Teas lately. This one tastes mostly like a buttery oolong. I’m not getting anything else from it, but I appreciate Roswell Strange letting me try some of it!

In a timolino for work, no additives.

This was really coffee/cream rich today, and tasted especially cakey. The chocolate/oolong were both much lighter in flavour/presence.

Morningstar and I were on break together today, and while I was drinking my tea she asked me to explain what each of them were, so I broke down the ingredients to this one and my cold brewed Lime Chiffon and when both smelled/sounded good to her I split each 50/50 with her so she could try them out.

This was her favourite of the two (I’m thinking because she’s a coffee drinker normally, or maybe because it was hot). Honestly, it was my favourite of the two (today, anyway) as well. I think I must have successfully converted her to tea though, because she said she’d pay me back if I ordered a pouch of it for her. I was really sad when I had to tell her this one isn’t sold anymore.

I promised to bring in some other ones I think are similar for her to try, though. That seemed to make her pretty happy. I think I might bring in Tea Desire’s Latte Macciato (because of the coffee/chocolate element) and then a Bourbon Black (because I know she likes booze) early next week for her to try. And maybe DT’s Choconut Oolong…

It was a cool bonding type moment, though!

Creamy light flavor of coffee and chocolate.Easy to drink but I’m still on the fence on how I feel about oolong. I figured this was a good time to try one or two. I’m glad I got to try this; it’s been years since I had tiramisu so just the idea of having tea flavored tiramisu was fun!
