An episode of Poirot and a nice cup of tea to start the week off right. Bliss. Wedding Impérial is an unapologetic caramel tea that’s not too sweet despite being very fragrant, no doubt the Assam base working its magic there. It has a sort of minty aftertaste which I love. Can’t feel any chocolate even though it’s in its description. Gosh it’s good. I don’t have a clue what’s wedding-like about it though as any wedding-themed tea I’ve seen so far has been a white floral. Could be an attempt at irony though I wouldn’t give snobbish Mariage that much credit.
Enjoying that a lot.

We’re going to a seafood place for lunch today. My partner invited me to celebrate my teaching certificate (I passed in June but nevermind). When he asked me if I’d be interested in going to the restaurant this weekend, I thought he wanted to celebrate our one year anniversary, which was yesterday, but that was putting too much faith in his ability to remember any date that isn’t crucial to a video game. FINE.
I needed something comforting today, something that’d be just about me. I toyed with the idea of preparing a cup of rose scented tea (sweet revenge, he hates roses – try and kiss me now, darling) but my kindness will be my downfall. I retreated and picked Mélange des Chérubins for a sweet treat before our food orgy (seafood is my favourite food and I fully intend on demanding to be rolled all the way back to my house after the feast).

This is a pleasant tea (not mindblowing though). It’s warm and well-rounded – I was pleased to find the blood orange cutting into the sweetness of the chocolate. It’s a tea I could happily sip while doing my lesson prep as it doesn’t ask for too much of my attention. Not a favourite but I’m happy I have it.

And now I’m off to meet my lobster!

Perhaps I steeped it wrong but this is such a letdown. This oolong has barely a hint of chestnuts – it’s more like a taste of something a bit sweet you can’t quite describe. The overall tea is very woody and would match an autumn weather (I’m drinking this in August like the rebel I am). I was expecting a lot more complexity and a lot more flavour so I’d ordered two bags of 100g which means the disappointment I feel is now closely tied to the frustration and slight guilt one feels at having been ripped off. Not a bad tea but perhaps it would be more enjoyed by those of us who can appreciate subtle flavours. As for me, my palate is only fond of those teas which feel like drinking perfume.

Oh boy, this isn’t for the faint at heart. It smells like a ginger explosion and tastes of ginger-scented fire. It lingers on your tongue way after you’ve drunk the last sip. I love this, it’s exactly what I was looking for.

Rose is such a love/hate scent. Most people I know and indeed most companies that produce anything with rose prefer it mild, shy, ‘this is a MODERN rose’, ’it’s not old lady-ish’, ’it’s not too overpowering’. To hell with all that. I’m a rose addict and the stronger, the better. Give me a posy, nay, a garden and I’ll be in heaven. When I heard this was quite a full-on rose tea (said in hushed, ‘I warn you’ tones), my first thought was ‘AT LONG LAST. BRING IT ON.’
This lives up to my expectations, it’s wonderfully rich and unapologetic. Fresh and heady at the same time. Oh, so good. If only I could find a perfume this brave. Thank you Jackie for such a wonderful start to the new year.

Oh God the smell of this! I love the smell of chocolate so much. This is lovely. At first I thought it was a combo of chocolate and mint (strangely enough), the hazelnut isn’t roasted so I had trouble picking it up. After enjoying a mug full of this tea, though, I can safely say this is a match made in heaven. The sweet hazelnut complements the deep aroma of the chocolate so well and the chocolate lingers on your tongue long after a sip. I still don’t like chocolate but boy does it work well in teas. I enjoyed this best without milk and piping hot. What a treat! Thank you Jackie for this gift.

I love rose anything and this is a fantastic rose tea. It’s flavoured nicely and it’s so well-rounded. Stands a resteep really well without losing any of its flavour and punch – I think that comes from the quality base. I’m astonished at the price, what a steal! Thank you Jackie for this sample, I’ll definitely purchase some more to keep in my stash. I prefer this after lunch but I’ve had a mug in the morning and it sets the tone for the day. Lovely stuff.

My friend Jackie sent this to me as a surprise sample. She knows my tastes so well. This is the most gourmand tea I’ve ever tasted. I’m really surprised there isn’t a single fruit in this (according to the description at least) as it smells and tastes of candied strawberry to me (what?) I would hate that in any tea (I like berries but I think they just taste gross hot) but this is so complicated. I could see a child absolutely loving this, it’s like a bag of sweets with a slight edge coming from the flowers.
Quite a captivating tea, if you ask me – there’s so much going on, I just spent my whole cup analyzing every note. I strongly recommend milk and the sweetener of your choice with this, though you can go without sweetener (it’s a dessert tea on its own), I feel it just ties everything nicely. I’m frankly surprised I like this, it’s very very sweet, but it’s also very very lovely on the tongue and smells like teen spirit.

Yum yum this is so good. I like cinnamon in all its forms – I enjoy it sweetened, full-blown with lots of fire and anything in between. This is a really cinnamony tea – sometimes you can tell it’s spicy but have to pretty much imagine the cinnamon is buried in there somewhere. Not the case here. It’s gorgeous. I can’t pick up anything else but I absolutely don’t mind this (for me) one-note tea. I love it. It’s very inviting, very interesting. I can see its going well with honey, but I used stevia and a drop of milk. It’s November 2 and I couldn’t think of a more appropriate tea to drink. I love almond teas and rose teas so when I saw Teavana had an Amandine Rose tea, I jumped on my poor penpal Jackie to ask for a sample and she very kindly put up with me. What a delight this tea is. It’s a very unusual combination but boy is it satisfying. It’s posh and comforting at the same time. The rose comes off really strong and the almond behind is so interesting. I’m really enjoying this with stevia.
Sadly the base was super weak when I resteeped it so I can only enjoy this once a day at most (I usually resteep my morning tea as a dessert after lunch so now I’m sad).
