drank Caramel Vanilla Assam by Butiki Teas

So this tea was not my favorite. It may have been my fault because all I had was a sample size and I used a big mug…probably 12 oz. So it was probably underleafed. That being said, I mainly get a buttery taste from it with maybe a tiny bit of caramel. It just tastes kind of odd. Maybe I’ll try a resteep with less water and hold off on rating it until then. Anyway, thanks for the sample, Butiki Teas!

Resteep: I used about half the water this time. The weird taste is even worse now. This is just not the tea for me. There must be something wrong with me since everyone else seemed to be raving about it!

It is not necessarily you…when I first tried my first cup, I couldn’t figure out what the fuss was about.
But by the time I have finished the pot…I loved it…I think somehow it is one of those that
“grows on you”.

TeaLady441

Sometimes it’s much better than other times, but I couldn’t say why… I hope it ‘pops’ for you next time!

mj

Unfortunately, I only had a teeny sample bag that was enough for one cup so I most likely won’t be able to try it again. That’s ok though. Stacy will already be getting a cut of my paycheck with all the Killer’s Vanilla and Lavender Chamomile I will be buying!

I used the rest of this sample to cold brew for about 10 hours. It has even less flavor now. I’m not impressed by this tea.

I had two different teas in my two large infusers and I thought I saved the ATR Brioche for a resteep, but it turns out I saved the H&S Soho blend instead. It’s hard to be mad about this, but I don’t have much of the Brioche! Mondays…blech. Any tips on how to save and keep track of the different teas you drink for resteeps?

Marzipan

I never save them past the current day.

mj

Really? I have been just keeping them in the fridge if I want to keep them over night. Do you not save them because of concerns about bacterial growth or for another reason?

Marzipan

I have read that there are concerns with mold growing, but I think it’s more of a feeling of completion than anything. I am almost always disappointed in resteeps anyway.

Yes, again. I apologize for nothing. Lovely floral taste that also tastes somehow clean. Not in a soapy way at all! Also, it’s so great before bed. I’m so chilled and relaxed now. I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day! Being 1,000 miles from my mom sucks, but we got to talk and she loved her gifts :-)

drank Cherry Vanilla by Bigelow

Backlog! I almost forgot about this one. I had this at a friend’s house today while I was over for his breakfast brunch. I also had an amazing tofu scramble, waffles, and mimosas, which is not relevant but is very pleasant to reminisce about :-). Anyway, this tea was very good! I normally don’t like fake cherry flavored things all that much, but this cherry was quite good and paired well with the vanilla. I added a little foamed almond silk and this turned out to be a very tasty cup!

drank Coconut Cocoa by The Republic of Tea

ZOMG. This tea. Yes. The coconut and the barley are at the forefront with the cocoa really rounding out each sip. It tastes like a mounds bar and a chocolate rice crispie treat had a tea love child. In other words, wonderful. Chocolate and coconut are always a winning combination for me and this tea does it in a new, delicious way.

I was surprised with this one too!

drank Sultan's Delight by American Tea Room

This tea smells really interesting and has huge chunks of (presumably) figs and nuts in the dry leaf. The taste is mostly roasted sesame wrapped around figginess. It’s not quite figs, but it has a certain figginess to it. Yes, I know figginess is not a word, but it’s the only way I could think of to describe it. Overall, it’s a pretty pleasant cup, but it won’t be a tea that I’ll order again.

The tea was pretty disappointing to me. It doesn’t taste bad, but the flavors are really weak. I don’t taste any coconut at all (sad face) and I only get a whisper of pineapple in the aftertaste. Even so, it doesn’t really taste like actual pineapple at all, more like a pineapple candy flavor. This may have been my fault because I brewed it with boiling water rather than the recommended 185F, which I didn’t notice until I was pouring the boiling water. I think I’ll try this as a cold brew.

I’ve been busy this weekend! Not too busy for tea, mind you, but I haven’t been able to get any reviews done. I’ve just been drinking my favorites (Butiki Killer’s Vanilla, Harney and Sons Soho Blend, American Tea Room’s Brioche, etc.) but the best part is that I’ve been introducing my friend Joe to all my awesome teas as well. He recently decided not to drink soda anymore and to drink tea instead. He bought a Bigelow sampler and liked everything but the Earl Grey (Blergamots unite!). I loaded him up with a bunch of samples, brewing some for him here since he doesn’t even have an infuser yet. He said “All your teas are so amazing! Much better than soda and I’ll save money now that I’m not buying soda.” I managed not to laugh but didn’t have the heart to break it to him that he will probably be spending much more on tea!

TheTeaFairy

Yay! Another tea convert!
Lol, yep, tea addiction is far more expensive than soda, but so much more satisfying!

Suziqzer

I think it depends on how you look at it as it’s expense. If you can stick to a few varieties and not get plugged in here, you might be ok ;) But, on the flip side, I’m glad I found this place!! Love it and all the generous people that instill the yearning to try everything!

I also think we need to look at the cost from a health standpoint. I cut soda mostly out when I started drinking teas. I still use some sugar in most of my tea, but not nearly as much as I consumed in my soda. And diet.. who knows what’s in that? I think tea will eventually save us in health costs when it means eliminating soda from our diets. That one’s not as easy to see, but valid I think.

mj

I totally agree with you, Suziqzer! Tea is definitely the healthier choice. There are no antioxidants in soda! I just meant it was more expensive from a financial point of view. Steepster has exacerbated that problem, but I’m loving all the new teas I’m trying and how much I’m learning from everyone here!

This tea is amazing. I drank it with sweetener and frothed milk and it tastes just like a cinnamon roll. Seriously, just like it with the icing and all! So bready and yeasty with cinnamon….mmmmmmmm. How do they do that? This tea is the very best version of having your cake and eating it too because you get to have your breakfast pastry and not get fat.

Tea-obsessed, book worm scientist.

I love black tea, especially Chinese black tea- I’m looking at you Fujians and Yunnans! I also enjoy Indian teas, mostly first flush darjeelings (and a select few assams).
I think I’m recently starting to like oolongs better though- gasp! I’ve been cheating on my black teas with all these lovely, alluring green floral oolongs. Sorry I’m not sorry.
White tea gets a lot of love too! I am particularly fond of silver needle whites.
I can’t seem to appreciate green teas and rooibos is foul, IMO.

Other interests: Books! Board games! Nerdy entertainment like Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones, Sherlock, all the nature documentaries, etc etc. Also Disney!

I’m up for swaps!
