343 Tasting Notes
Oh yum! This to me tastes, smells and looks (sans fizz) like cream soda. Granted, I added sweetener, but when do I not? Unlike some of the other dessert teas I’ve tried, with this you get a more full bodied experience and it’s pleasant during the entire sip. The white tea lends the buttery creamy flavor you would expect. So far I’ve gotten two steepings out of 2 teaspoons in my 16oz steeper mug.
Really nice, I’m almost certainly going to order more as I imagine my sample will run out rather quickly.
Preparation
Not sure how I feel about this one and the rooibos seeped through my steeping mug which didn’t make the first few sips pleasant. I added some sweetener and it stil almost tastes a bit sour? It tastes and smells faintly like banana and chocolate, but only at the front of the sip.
So I was feeling a little creative this evening and I didn’t want anything with a high caffeine content, so I took some Davidstea Bai Hao Yin Zhen which I received as a sample with my last order and 2 pieces of freeze-dried banana which I roughly broke apart.
Put in my infuser mug and steeped for 5 minutes. I know it’s a bit sacrilegious to take an expensive tea and add fruit flavors, but it was so yummy. The buttery white tea and creamy banana. Perfection. Speaking of which, you can buy little packets of freeze dried banana in the grocery store for $1. I got two steepings out of it.
Preparation
So this time I used 3 tsp and a dash of milk. Eh. I don’t know what it is with some of these dessert teas. Maybe the milk subdued the flavor even with 3 tsp. With a dessert, you except some fullness in your mouth and these teas, though they certainly smell nice, are still tea and thin. As with the first cup, there’s some malt and a bit of maple and sweetness, but I get nothing that screams red velvet cake.
What I have noticed is that I need to be patient and let these cool down just a touch as you can really taste the flavors when you aren’t burning your tongue!
Preparation
I’m shocked that I was able to get another 16oz mug out of my 3tsp as a resteep given the general opinion about this not providing a lot of flavor. I added a bit more sweetener this time and it’s really nice. Not the best decision after a hot shower, but drinking hot tea with a fan on is totally normal, right? =)
Preparation
Weekends have become, try as many new teas as possible and make sure to review on steepster. I used 3 tsp in my 16oz steeper mug which I’d imagine is a bit low for this tea as it has very large pieces in it. I steeped for just over 10 minutes though. Added just a touch of sweetener. I think I may go down for some more. It’s faintly banana and I do get the nuts and dates. I don’t get any “bread/cake” notes from this one though.
Preparation
I was so excited to try this tea. I used 2 teaspoons for 16oz of water and brewed for 5 minutes and think I may up it next time as it was a bit weak. I tested it unsweetened and only tasted black tea with a tiny bit of malt. Adding sweetener brought out stronger flavors. I can taste a bit of cake, I also got the maple note that everyone seems to mention. What I didn’t get was red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.
It’s far from horrible, but it isn’t quite as good as some make it out to be. I think next time I’ll up the tea content and add some milk.
Preparation
I first ordered this in May of this year and I’ve gone through the majority of the 4oz I bought but for some reason, I haven’t logged it on Steepster. Anyway, this is nice light strawberry blend. I tend to sip this in the evenings after work to unwind. The little bit of grape almost makes it taste like a dessert wine, but without the wine (or calories for that matter)!
I’ve really enjoyed this tea and will enjoy the last few cups of it. I’ll certainly be adding it to my shopping list but maybe not 4oz at a time with all this tea I’ve been introduced to recently!
