I’m finding that I like toffee and butterscotch better with white bases then black. They’re kind of buttery and almost too delicate to go that way. I think the base in this is slightly buttery and just a little creamy. I really like the slightly spicy cinnamon notes floating in here too. Yum.

I made this one to take shopping. I was not Black Friday shopping, I had a few things to pick up for tomorrow, but I got caught in the Black Friday hoards. However, I forgot it on the counter at home. So now I am drinking it about 2.5 hours later.

This one managed to still be luke warm by the time I got home, which is pretty good. I expected it to be stone cold. It definitely tastes like butterscotch. I was a bit disappointed though. I was hoping for a bit creamier taste. This was definitely butterscotch but more on the sharp side. It reminds me of those old school butterscotch candies that are caramel coloured but still clear (if that makes sense). This one definitely has some good flavour to it.

I was very excited for the new Persimmon Tree teas to come out (and try!) and Butterscotch looked the coolest of the new line up!

The white tea base is nice, adding lightness to the butterscotch buttery smokey flavor. The tea has a nice, savory end with a bit of spice. Sweetened, Butterscotch becomes more like liquid candy!

Butterscotch from The Persimmon Tree is really a good interesting tea blend. It seems to be more on the scotch side than the butter. For a candy inspired tea it really is not that sweet, or candy like. I get a strong scotch flavor in the blend, as in the alcohol.

The mouthfeel is medium heavy and the cup color is a nice clear light brown. I have also had this tea cold and it keeps its flavor profile quite nicely. A lot of teas taste different when hot versus cold, but this is the same either way.

Adding some sweetener, I used German Rock Sugar, does help bring out the candy like flavor in the tea, more like those golden yellow butterscotch candies you can get at the dime store. Even still I get a heavy scotch flavor from the tea mostly.

There is a creamy or buttery like mouthfeel to a degree, but not so much on the butter flavor. I personally would like it to be a bit more candy like but that is just a personal preference. To be honest, I think more people will appreciate this tea for its pure and direct flavor. It is not another overly sweetened, overly flavored, fake candy tea. It is absolutely a fresh and organic blend which I appreciate even if my taste buds would like it to be a bit sweeter.

So today was an odd day as I was in the hospital for the majority of it (migraines are so much fun). I came home after a long rush hour drive and just wanted something yummy and warm. This was perfect, and I even finished off the sample sachet from my first order with Persimmon Tree. I suppose you could call this a sipdown, but as 1 ounce is on its way, it’s kinda wrong to claim it.

This tea smells like a butterscotch candle! When I sip, first thing I taste is a light cinnamon that fades into a smooth butterscotch. It has an almost light floral aspect to it and the aftertaste is lovely! It is fantastic with a bit of sugar. Each sip is a little more harsh at the beginning, but quickly smooths down by mid sip. I can’t usually pick out the tea in white based tea and this tea holds true to that. It is really an interesting tea and the first I have tried from Persimmon Tree. I’m glad I have another serving or two of this because I’m teetering on if it should be on my shopping list or not!

They do pretty good deals on samples on their website, I did a 5 for $5 white tea sample pack and got this one and a few others. They were all pretty nice!! The coconut creme was my fave :)

Thanks for sending me this Moraiwe! I really like this one! I’m a big fan of white teas, and butterscotch isn’t something I would have normally picked out for myself, but I’m really enjoying this. I have been debating on ordering from the Persimmon Tree for a while now, so this experience might persuade me to do so :)

I’ve had this at least three times but it seems I’ve never logged it. I got a small sample of this from Persimmon and it’s quite nice. There is a creamy sweetness to this white tea. Sometimes it seems like it might be too faint, but actually it’s perfect. It’s a satisfying subtle flavor. I wouldn’t change it by adding sugar. I’m almost done with my sample and this might end up being a buy-again tea. It resteeps nicely as well.

I’m baaaack! Sorry for the mini-hiatus, but packing for Rome was so stressful (it was my first time travelling alone-ish) and took up so much time that I didn’t have time to drink tea, let alone write about it. This was the only tea that I drank in the last couple of days leading up to the trip, and I drank coffee – mainly espresso – the whole time we were there and haven’t had any more in the day since I got back, so this is the only note I have to catch up on.

Sadly I don’t remember the finer details of this tea (it was a sample from my swap with VariaTEA so it’s not one I’ve drank often), only that it was nice, but definitely underwhelming and more peppery than a ‘butterscotch’ tea should be. I didn’t get the alcohol comparisons, to me this was more of a peppery caramel white tea. The sweet buttery note definitely came across more as caramel to me than it did butterscotch, which used to be my brother and I’s favourite dessert as kids. I suppose that distinct memory could be what’s preventing me from making the connection here. Still, I’m grateful to have tried it.

Also, if anyone’s wondering, Rome was incredible, stunning, moving, immense and I’d go back in a heartbeat (we’re planning a potential second holiday there later this year!) I’d recommend it to anyone that’s considered going, and anyone that hasn’t.
