drank Peach White by The TeaCupany
16 tasting notes

For our class assignment, I decided to go to a little tea shop near Little Five Points, called “Dr. Bombay’s” which had a large selection of teas to try from. I decided to go for the peach white tea since it the most opposite of the Pu’er I was thinking to use for my tea ceremony. The whole experience was really lovely, as we had it with a full high tea. My cup was dainty and white, with little flowers painted all over. The interior of the shop had a vintage, eclectic feeling which complemented the tea. The flavor of the tea was nice, but a little subtle on the peach. It had very little aftertaste, but a nice and refreshing base. The subtle color and flavor paired well with the ginger socnes I was served.

Flavors: Peach, Sweet

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 2 min, 15 sec 3 tsp 6 OZ / 177 ML

I love afternoon/high tea! I haven’t been in a while, I’ll have to change that soon. :D

Sipdown (169)

Thank you Dexter for the share. This is a nice cold brew. Not too sweet, not too tart and certainly berries through and through.

Smells like fresh cut grass. Just a whiff of bergamot…the green tea is very prevalent. Lots of tannins. Nice, but not great.

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 30 sec 2 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML
Katherine McKinney

I think in retrospect my water was a bit too hot, which brought out the catechins in the tea a little more and contributed to the tannin taste.

Thanks to Lala for this tea! I had more than enough for a cold brew, so I figured, why not? The dry leaf smells very orangey, yet that citrus profile completely vanished upon steeping. The cold brew barely has any flavour at all, unfortunately, but it may have to do with its age? Who knows. One thing I find very interesting, however, is that the only flavour peeking through is ginger root-like. That’s all I taste. Even the green base is flavourless!

But it was still interesting to try, and that ginger note was a complete surprise. I’m going to abstain from rating it mainly because I’m not sure how old it is, and perhaps it may have been different fresh.

drank Green Rhubarb by The TeaCupany
630 tasting notes

This was very tasty. It was of course green, and had a very fresh flavor already, but it wasn’t bitter. It had that sharp edge of rhubarb without being in your face like RHUBARB. Which I think is best for a green tea. I drank it iced and it was refreshing and delicious.

165 °F / 73 °C 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

I just skipped past making this hot – some things are just better left being iced. I have so much “hot only” tea to drink, I had no problem brewing this up and then letting it cool down. I am glad I did. It is fruity, and fresh from the rose, and overall very refreshing. It isn’t as bitter as I was worried it might be. Definitely a very solid option.

Preparation
165 °F / 73 °C 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

I never tried that iced! Glad you’re enjoying it!

Thank you so much for sending it :)

drank Green Citrus by The TeaCupany
630 tasting notes

This tea is described rather perfectly in the description. It is very citrussy, and I think the word crisp is a great way to describe it, as it isn’t sour. It isn’t sweet, but is very fresh due to the green tea base.

That said, it isn’t mindblowing. Makes a decent iced tea too.

drank Choconut Mate by The TeaCupany

Sipdown! (No change in number though – this appears not to have been on my swap sheet. Sigh.) And thanks again to Sil, courtesy originally of Dexter, I believe.

Not too bad, actually – I can taste the chocolate and what’s coming off as coffee to me, mixed with the characteristic strong roasted mate flavours. No hazelnut, really. I think this would be quite a bit better latte-style, though, because it’s verging slightly on bitter as it is.

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 0 sec
darby

If you’re like me you can add it to your sheet and then cross off….feeling good you sipped down! Lol

Kittenna

Hahaha, it’s something like that :) Still feels good to toss a bag and reduce a bit of clutter! I’d be so happy to get down to three drawers of tea plus my little set of cubbies… but that’s a long time coming.

drank Tart Apple by The TeaCupany
894 tasting notes

Another sample from the lovely Dexter.

Years ago I used to go for afternoon tea at The International House of Tea in Thunder Bay, and they had a marvellous Turkish Apple tea that was nothing but apple pieces, but had an amazing bright lemony apple flavour. And then it went away and I was very sad, and I’ve been on the hunt for a comparable tea since (just checking their site, they have a Turkish apple tea again, so maybe I’ll have to order.)

So anyway, that’s my backstory to wanting to try this tea, even though it’s loaded with hibiscus, and I generally don’t like hibiscus teas.

Well I still don’t much like hibiscus teas, and this one isn’t working too well for me, unsurprisingly. I opened the bag to take a whiff and was nearly knocked over by just how tart it smelled. I think this is the most acidic smelling tea I’ve ever encountered, because it was like sticking my face into a bag of vinegar. Nostril burning sour.

Steeped it’s better. The liquor is a bright pink, which is pretty, and the vinegar has mellowed, but is still there on the nose. Just a hint of apple cider vinegar.

Taste-wise, there’s a bit of apple, but mostly it’s just tart, tart, tart.

This tea certainly lives up to its name, but I was hoping for something similar but very different.

Flavors: Apple, Hibiscus, Sour, Tart, Vinegar

Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

I haven’t logged teas in DAYS. Steepster has just been too difficult to deal with.
Was drinking this one a couple of days ago.
I think it’s good, it’s hazelnut, it’s about the same as Adagios. If you like hazelnut, this is worth a try.

TeaLady441

Yeah, I’ve been put off on trying for a bit bc of it.

mmmmmm another one from the lovely dexter I am a fan of this one! it’s berries and tart without being overpoweringly so. I brewed this up hot, and also let it cool so i could get the full range of tastes to this one, and i enjoyed it all. It really is “berry” not really leaning towards one of the other. I really do need to place a tea cuppany order soon…i’m still holding on to the sample packaging of the sweet potatoe pie tea dex shared with me last year so i don’t forget to pick more of that up haha

Final Count: Finally no more tea inbound and i’m at 125. Since September is a write off for me, going to try and get to 85 by the end of this month…40 teas in 12 days. :)

Dexter

I’m a but torn with The TeaCupany – I don’t think any of their teas are BAD, but some are better than others. I agree I really like this one, and I really liked the sweet potatoe pie!!! Too many teas, too many companies. :))

Sil

How awful to be butt torn ;). Hahaha yeah, I want to place a small order with them in fall I think..

Dexter

LOL nice typo Dex…..

drank Fire Cracker by The TeaCupany

Another from Dexter and this one is another interesting blend. I was a little disappointed in how almost boring it was. This was largely a lapsang tea with hints of other things that remained out of my ability to discern them with any certainty. it was tasty, but I wanted more! Thanks as always Dexter!!

(totally got to 120 today before i had to add the teas to my cupboard that came today)

Dexter sent this one my way and i’m always grateful for the teas she shares with me. I’ve gradually tried a few teas from this company through her and they’re always an adventure lol this one is a pretty tasty hazelnut tea. It’s not my favourite hazlenut tea but in terms of a really good, solid tea – this is where it’s at. just hazelnut and nothing else :)

drank Vanilla Rooibos Chai by The TeaCupany
15417 tasting notes

Dexter sent this one my way since i asked really nicely :) Opening this up, i was immediatly reminded of vanilla citrus spice from verdant, until the cloves hit….something else in there also made me think of after dark by steam. Since there was an abundance of cloves in this sample, i picked a bunch out before brewing it since i know i generally only like cloves in moderation.

Brewed, this is a decent blend. it really is somewhere in the middle of those two teas – reminding me of both of them, while being very clearly, it’s own tea. :) I enjoyed a cup of this tonight while hoping for some end in sight for testing. I’m so ready for bed…. thanks for bringing a spot of sunshine to the evening dexter!

Final Count: 124

Dexter

:)) 124 is a good number.

Thank you Dexter for this one a while back! I could tell by the dry leaf scent this one isn’t for me… it smells something like ginger, but I don’t see any ginger listed in the ingredients. It’s a smell that reminds me of allergies or something, dill or pollen. The green base is fine, from what I can taste, but it does seem like whatever that scent is takes over the green tea. Not really much mandarin either. Just not my thing! :D

Tried this cold brewed and after one sip, this tea got dumped. Thank you Roswell Strange and Dexter for the chance to try something new but this is just not for me. Thank goodness it is done.

This came to me via Roswell Strange who originally got it from Dexter so thank you both for the opportunity to try something new. Unfortunately, this is something I could have gone without trying because I am just not enjoying it. I made it hot and it is just very fake and very sweet. I am not liking it at all. Sorry guys!

I didn’t like it either; was hoping maybe you’d getting something more from it. But oh well :/

I got a lot from the leaf but it was a lot of blech

drank Green Raspberry by The TeaCupany

How strange. The TeaCupany sent me this one with my monthly tea membership but i can’t find it on their website. I wonder if it’s too new or discontinued…

I already had one cup of this tea so far but nothing stood out for me. It was a pleasant cup . I brewed at 185 for 2 min. I figured i would do a 2nd infusion at the same temperature for 3 min. There is slight raspberry flavour that comes through and I’m picking up even more slight the rose from rose petals. Again , it’s okay. Perhaps I’m expecting too much? It’s a just fine raspberry green. The flavour doesn’t come across as artificial and the green base is med astringent green. Maybe I am trying too many teas and looking for those ones that’s going to blow me away. There’s nothing wrong with this tea. I will finish this cup and put it away for another day. Sometimes it’s the ones that don’t impress too much in the beginning that end up being favourites down the road.

drank Pear White by The TeaCupany

Similar to the peach I wrote about yesterday. Nice base, nice pear flavor – it’s just really subtle. Would like MORE pear for my tastes.

Sil

Did I send you any of the pear tea in picked up in Vancouver?

drank Peach White by The TeaCupany
1040 tasting notes

Nice white base, subtle peach flavor. There isn’t anything offensive here, just a nice light peach white tea. The peach is not chemical or candy – it’s really pretty good. I just wish there was more peach flavor. This is pretty mild.
I always have peach tisane in my house – so I just added a little of that to this and it made a great hot tea. Cold steeped this doesn’t really taste like much – it too could use a little boost in the peach department.

drank Green ChocoMint by The TeaCupany
661 tasting notes

It is so rare to have chocolate paired with green tea that I was pretty excited to get this one from The TeaCupany. In the bag it smelled so wonderful: minty, chocolatey. Brewed up I didn’t get that same strong aroma from the tea but when I took a sip it was BAM! Minty, chocolate green tea heaven. First I tasted the cool mint mixed with the vegetal green tea , followed by the chocolate notes. A wonderful mix and this one I would consider ordering again when this runs out.

Christina / BooksandTea

Interesting. To me, chocolate is a flavour that goes better with black tea.

Ubacat

Well, it works with this tea and lucky for me since I don’t like a lot of black teas.
