10 Tasting Notes
I’m trying to like this tea. But, okay… full disclosure? It tastes like hot, orange Kool-aid! Or melted down orange candies. The first three or four sips is fun, the fifth is sort of too sweet and then by the end of the cup, I’m so sick of the smell (which is wonderful at first) that I can’t finish it. However, this tea is definitely going to be iced! I have high hopes for it cold.
Preparation
Okay. I went to Teavana (right around the corner from my place) for the first time. After smelling a bunch of teas that didn’t make any real impression and after complaining about the 50g limit on their loose teas, the “nice” guy at the counter gave me a “free” sample of this to try.
It’s brewing right now…
First of all, let me just say that I do not enjoy Teavana. Or at least the one near my house. 50g limit? WTF? So I countered with… Hey did you know that Davids has an ADVENT CALENDAR??? Like, you can try a bunch of teas every day to see if you like them. He said it was snappy marketing. I said, they must really love their customers…
Anyhow, I asked for 50g of three different teas. He gave me 60g, 80g and 70g of three different teas… guess he doesn’t mind me paying more, does he!?? ARGH.
Anyhow, back to this tea.
The liquor is a very dark, amber colour and smells distinctly of strawberry. I really like pu’erh based flavoured tea, so I am really looking forward to taking the first sip and really really hope that I taste strawberries. Right now it looks like coffee and smells like dessert. Not too bad a combo in my books. We’ll see how it tastes… here goes…
CRAP! I brewed it too long.
It’s fruity, but the base really over-powers it quite a bit. I like it, but I need milk and sugar to make this work, I think.
I think I will like this tea if I don’t mess it up next time. I will log this again on my second attempt.
Preparation
This is the first “real” tea I actually brought with me on a trip outta town because I couldn’t live without it for the first few days after trying it.
There is something about this tea that makes me feel like everything is going to be okay.
This would be one of the teas I would want on my person in the event of a Zombie apocalypse just for reassurance and to help me stay calm, cool and collected.
That’s how much I really love this soothing, calming, tasty and relaxing tea.
Nuff said.
Okay, this is the first time I’m drinkingt this tea and I’m having a difficult time nailing down what I like about this tea. Definitely don’t understeep it and definitely don’t oversteep it.
I’m doing something stupid and drinking it out of my tea press which means I had about 4 minutes where it was in it’s perfect sweet spot and delicious to drink… before that it was too weak and watery. After that, it was too bitter and no fun anymore :(
That is my bad, not the tea’s! I will definitely be giving this tea another try over the weekend. I think there is a lot of potential to fall in love with this one.
So, I tried again with this tea when I got home. I used a one-cup infuser in a glass mug so I could see it in all its glittery goodness… again, I dunno.
I really really really wanted this tea to have a HUGE cinnamon kick to it and instead, it just seemed too weak. I steeped it for 7 minutes this time and … womp womp.
If anyone has any tips to Jazz Hands this tea up, I’ll be forever grateful! It’s like How I Met Your Mother to me right now… I keep drinking it hoping I’ll like it!
So my good, tea-loving, work friend saw that I was having a bad day and immediately handed me a bag of this Long Life Oolong, which I have now secretly renamed: Lifeline Oolong.
I’m really new to talking about tea. I am certainly trying to learn all the fancy terms and understand what (in my opinion) makes a good tea and how to describe what I am tasting, etcertera.
But until then, I will say this about Long Life Oolong: it’s fruity and green tasting and it picked me up when I was feeling blue. It is a cheery tea, which I was skeptical about drinking on a coldish December day, but it really did remind me a bit of summer and that’s what drinking tea is about for me. An escape.
So I recommend this as a depression rescue tea and will definitely drink it again when I need rescuing.
Enjoy!
Preparation
I have to say that I really like this tea. I’m not a coffee drinker, but this tea makes me feel like I can hold my head up high at work admidst the throngs of coffee drinkers and feel like I know something awesome that they don’t! This tea really delivers the best of both worlds.
My favourite thing about this tea is that it gives you the best things about chocolate and coffee, while not overpowering the best thing about pu’erh. The flavour is earthy, rich, slightly sweet and you should be able to steep it two or three times without losing much of what makes it so good! I like to add milk and sugar to the first steep and I leave it black for the second.
Honestly, there’s something about having this tea in my travel mug that makes me feel like Mary Tyler Moore when I leave for work in the morning. Optimistic and happy!
So, I’m drinking this tea right now. It’s not in my cupboard. A friend has it at her desk and I wanted to try something new.
I steeped it for about 6 minutes. Not sure if it was long enough to really let the caramel flavour out. It’s nice, and not overwhelmingly sweet or salty. It didn’t rock my world or anything, but I’m enjoying it none-the-less.
I realize this Tasting Note is probably quite pointless for others as it doesn’t really say much (which is quite close to how I feel about this tea), but I’m determined to log every tea I try, so here it is.
EDIT: I used my DavidsTea tea-press to make this tea and as it continues to steep, the flavours really start to develop into a much richer, more caramel-y brew.
Preparation
Okay. What’s not to love about this tea? Unless you hate mint chocolate (and I rank this personality defect up there with hating puppies), you will melt over this dessert tea. It reminds me of liquid chocolate mint Girl Guide cookies in a cup. Delicious!!!
(Oh and for all the mint-choco-haters out there, I’m just kidding… I luv yas, you misguided fools)
Preparation
I fell in love with this tea from the moment I smelled it. I’m a pure pu-erh fan (pardon the pun) and I love orange chocolate and this tea did not let me down. It tastes much like it smells and with or without a splash of milk (which I recommend for a hot chocolate-like feeling), it warms the body and spirit.
I served this tea to my non-tea-drinking in-laws and they were very surprised at how good it was.
I recommend this tea if you love sweet teas and flavoured chocolate.
Enjoy!
