193 Tasting Notes
This thing is awesome! Makes the perfect cup of tea every time and it is so easy to clean. It does get stained pretty quickly so might have to replace this once a year or so, or buy another and keep the old one just for black teas, but I would buy one every year if I had to, I love it that much.
I was really excited to try this tea as I’ve been looking for a good lychee tea for ages and have been unsuccessful as the lychee flavours are never strong enough for me.
When I smelled this tea, I smelled a very faint lychee scent and something very odd. Tobacco maybe? Yes Tobacco, but also something else, something I can’t quite put my finger on.
Every sip I took, I could smell that odd scent and it took me a few sips to figure out what it was, it was stewed tomatoes! When I came home today and started logging today’s teas, I noticed that someone else had described the smell of a different silk road tea as stewed tomatoes. It must be the same black tea base as this tea. Luckily, it doesn’t taste like stewed tomatoes, but the lychee flavour is not very strong, well not strong enough for me anyway. This tea is good none the less, though not something I would order again. My hunt for the perfect lychee tea continues….
I figured this tea would taste like cream of earl grey as it’s just earl grey with vanilla added, but it surprised me! This tea actually tastes a bit like root beer to me and it’s delicious! I fount the bergamot extremely light in this tea, to the point of not being able to taste it at all in some sips. Vanilla and root beer is what I’m getting. I only ordered a mini tin of this so I will be ordering a larger tin soon.
When I smelled this tea, it smelled sweet and sour with a very subtle cherry scent. I was a little disappointed as I was hoping for a stronger cherry flavour. But this tea blew my mind when I drank it. None of the reviews seem to mention the sour aspect of this tea, but I found it pretty intense. It felt really strange on my tongue, but in a good way! I can’t even describe it! But, I think it’s different for everyone. One friend said that they didn’t find it sour in any way, another friend said it was very faintly sour. The cherry flavour was quite light, but I think that made it even better. I steeped it a second time and the cherry flavour was stronger, but the sour was gone. Awesome tea!
I am not a fan of herbal tea. I am not sure why, maybe because there are usually too many different flavours in one tea. Or it could be because without the flavour of a tea, it just seems like juice to me, especially the fruit blends. But I really enjoy this tea! Even though there is a lot going on in this tea, the flavour seems pretty uniform, the flavours just blend together so well. I think I like it because I can’t taste any fruit, so it doesn’t seem like I’m just drinking juice. This tea, along with mulberry magic and bamboozled are the only herbals that have become permanent residents in my tea cupboard.
I have to credit this tea with getting me back into drinking tea, after years of a tea drinking hiatus. I was on a diet and was not allowed caffeine or sugar, but I love hot drinks so I decided to go to our recently opened david’s tea location and try a herbal tea. Now I’m one of those weird people that can drink coffee with no sweetener but I HAVE to have sweetener in tea, it seems to bring out the flavours more. So I ordered a cup of this tea with splenda to go. Even with the splenda (which I hate) this tea tasted sooo good, like apple pie in a cup. I proceeded to buy 100 grams of this stuff which I still have about 95 grams of left, as I started trying all of David’s teas and this has made it’s way to the back of the cupboard which is where it is going to stay. But this tea will always hold a special place in my heart for bringing tea back into my life.
I never thought to try this tea, or even smell it at the store, but my coworker brought it to work one day and asked me to smell it. It smelled like seaweed to me and I wanted to eat it. Once brewed it smelled like toasted sesame. I liked the smell of it so much that I went out and bought a sample to try. It tastes like seaweed and toasted sesame too! This tea is delicious and it’s cheap! This will definitely be in the regular rotation.
This is one of the first DAVIDs teas I ever tried, years ago, but then I went on a tea hiatus for years and just recently started drinking it again earlier this year. And when I say “started drinking it again”, I mean become literally obsessed with tea! I remember liking this one before, but I have tried so many teas since then and developed my palette into more subtle flavours and strait teas that I thought I may not like this as much, possibly too sweet or artificial tasting. But I was wrong! I think I might love this tea more now. It is sweet, and it is slightly artificial tasting, but it is just so damn good! My friend says that the rose flavour is just too strong for her, but I don’t taste any rose, just strawberry chocolate goodness.
