424 Tasting Notes
It is not often that I am at a loss for words, but I have had a really difficult time finding a way to describe the way this tea tastes. Forgive me as I muddle through it, ok? It’s not the tea’s fault – it’s my lack of experience with figs and dates and Middle Eastern flavor profiles that make this difficult, but I’m going to do my best.
The tea is very flavorful. I find myself thinking about the tea every time I take a sip, instead of drinking it absent-mindedly and forgetting about it. The flavors pull me back with every drink. It is savory overall, although the natural fruit sweetness pulls it back from being too savory. I almost get a glimpse of a salty note, but it runs away before I can fully tell that it’s there.

I reached for this tea because the description just sounded so great for a hot day, with citrus and exotic fruit. The leaf is really pretty and definitely invokes a sunshine feeling, so I picked a tea set that would be equally sunny. Photos and full review:

My first Muse Monthly subscription box arrived today! This was a Kickstarter that I funded. It sends a tea and a book every month – neat idea.

I am always attracted to cotton candy teas, and I have tried several and am usually disappointed. One thing that I dislike is that so many of the available cotton candy teas are made on a rooibos base, and this girl likes her caffeine. I was happy to see that this tea is done on a white base.

I do love a fun tea, and when I saw that Piper & Leaf had a tea called Old Fashioned Birthday Cake, I was sold. The description on the site was, "A premium Ceylon black tea, infused with bergamot and vanilla, blended with locallygrown and dried lavender flowers, and garnished with cornflowers.” Sounds pretty good, right?

This is one of the first Nina’s teas I ever tried and it still holds up. The dry leaf smells absolutely amazing – like juicy berries in a dessert. Slightly sweet, slightly tart. I really don’t think you can smell it and not brew it right then and there. Fair warning!

This is perhaps the freshest JJM I have ever had. It smelled heavenly when I opened the bag and I might have stood in the kitchen with my nose stuck in there for a full minute. Sure, it is deliciously malty/caramely/rich/sweet potato but I started wondering what exactly makes a JJM such a consistently great tea?
