19 Tasting Notes
This is a very mellow black tea, it sort of reminds me of what many Chinese restaurants serve, but vaguely. If your looking for a calm, mellow, smooth cup of black tea without a punch to it this fits that requirement.
The packaging is oddly good – each set of 25 bags is wrapped in plastic to keep it fresh, and the bags are nicely assembled paper.
Preparation
Its a really standard black tea, a twist on your typical English Breakfast. Its not smooth – more harsh. I am not a particular fan of it. When it brews it brews strong, I am assuming it has pretty good caffeine content.
Overall nothing special.
This is a strong Earl Grey – the Black Tea is actually the star of the show here! The earl grey flavor is there, but wow this tea is so black it can be harsh! Perfect for waking up or keeping going on a busy dreary day. The leaves are very small (ground up) but you get a large bag of it in the box.
Oddly I find this tea to be much better Iced than served Hot! It becomes a wonderful refreshing drink during the summer – brew it hot, and pour the hot Do Ghazal onto ice. Delicious – add just a pinch of sugar.
Hot – depending on your tolerance for harsh black tea, you will probably need Sugar to drink it.
I would recommend it if your open to trying all types of Earl Grey and experimenting with tea – its interesting.
Flavors: Bergamot
Preparation
This is an excellent Earl Grey – very strong Bergamot flavor present. The box says “OP” which in gamer/internet lingo means Overpowered – and I agree! I love this Earl Grey. The leaves are rather large – no fine powder to be found here. Brews dark.
It is excellent hot (as intended) or iced. This will tell you why Persians love tea.
This tea is hard to find and is not common – Amazon carries it through a third party seller, perhaps you will have luck finding it in an ethnic market specializing in the Middle East. The Nazu company is based in Herndon, VA so you will probably have the best luck getting this tea locally if you are in the DC Metro area. They are an oddly reclusive company with no public facing website – it adds to the mystery of the OP Persian Special.
Just what exactly is a “Persian Special” anyways? :P
Flavors: Bergamot
Preparation
Well, where do I start. Its earl grey. Barely. Its not a bad tea, but its not good either. Its literally mediocre. Wissotzky really hypes up its tea as being the best thing ever but its far from it- the merchants on eBay from Israel have the gall to sell 3 bags for $10.
I bought a box at the local Wegmans for $3.something. At the price, its not bad. Its better than most any generic Earl Grey. But the flavor of Bergamot is very faint, and the black tea is very weak. Sugar makes you imagine the Bergamot is there more than it actually is.
Overall, I have to say this tea makes me say Oy Vey – its cheap and it shows. Even the packaging/bags was poorly constructed (and was suspiciously similar to a cheap Egyptian black tea I have).
Preparation
A very good, smooth black tea. Best when you add a drop of whole milk (till its dark brown) or creamer (until its light mocha). If you watch the TV Commercials for Tapal you will see that they intend for it to be served with milk. Its also good when lightly sweetened with a bit of sugar.
Its great black too. I have it pretty much every morning now. Simple, refreshing, inexpensive. What more could you ask for in a cuppa? I find it far superior to your typical grocery isle English Breakfast options.
Give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised by this unassuming Pakistani tea.
Preparation
This plain black tea blows Lipton away. Its flavor is just better. Yes its a plain, cheap black tea, but compared to its competitors (Lipton) its no contest.
This makes a good Iced Tea as well.
If your looking for a fancy, high quality tea…this is not your tea. If your looking for a plain cup, nothing special, this is a good choice.
It also comes with a free ceramic sea animal figure! (Its a limited time promotion….very silly)
