The land of the living.
Toward the middle of the night on Saturday it hit me like a Semi Truck.
This started my nearly 48 hour migraine.
I have not had one this bad in awhile.
My darling sweet husband took care of me the entire time.
I lay in the dark bedroom.
Husband quietly bringing in cups of tea, water, juice and bits of food and pills, leaving them on the bed table where they sat barely touched.
My pets never left my side.
Last night, when I finally ventured out of my cave and husband promptly asked me what I wanted.
I said “A cup of tea”
He made me a cup of this.
I have had this tea for awhile, but have not logged it, because it is the tea that I grab when we are up long before normal people should arise and are out the door into the cold.
I bought this initially because Husband said he was interested in drinking more tea, but there was no way that he could make himself a cup of loose leaf tea at the shop.
So, I got this and I have ended up drinking most of it, because it surprised me with its delightful full flavored malty-ness and bracing spirit yet convenience of a quick cuppa.
It also is one of the only teas I have tried with a bit of milk and sugar, it seems to bring the malty-ness out even more.
They come in a cellophane wrapped box of 80 bags.
Have a tin ready to place the bags into, because they are not individually
wrapped.
Husband has made himself a cuppa of this and also when he makes me a cup of tea he grabs this, because its right by the kettle in a large tin that reads “Tea Bags”
So, last night when he handed me a mug of this, you would have thought he gave me a million bucks, I snatched it from him and inhaled while wrapping my hands firmly around the mug.
After I had nearly finished the mug of tea and he coaxed some peanut butter toast down me, he looked at me and said “there you go, looking better babe”
Then he went on to tell me how these last couple of days I looked like something that crawled off the Walking Dead filming set.
A little later catching my image in the mirror, I saw what he meant.
But, this morning, I am among the living and having another cuppa of this tea.
I am weak today, as I usually am after one of these episodes.
I want tea, but want it easily without thinking, so I think today, I will go through some of the bagged tea samples I have.
Maybe you will see more of me on here today.

Welcome back! The Bewley’s Clipper Gold loose leaf ashmanra sent me some time ago is also a kick-you-in-the-backside strong black tea that I really like. When it doesn’t pucker your head to remember things, where did you buy the bagged?

Hesper June

I did not know they even made a loose leaf version.
It is fairly bracing yet it does not seem to upset my stomach.
I got this off of Amazon, I do not remember the seller nor exact price, but I do remember it was under 10 bucks for a box of 80 bags.

Serenity

I am so sorry you had such a horrible migraine. I’ve experienced them, too, and know the utter euphoric relief when you feel better and have that first cup of tea. It’s as if you’ve been someplace horrible and you are back, restored. You described it so well. Top o’ the morning to you, Hesper June!

Hesper June

Thank you! Yes, it does feel like you just took the ring to Mordor or something.
Sitting up and looking around feels like such a treat!

ashmanra

Hesper June: I can have Gav pick you some loose leaf Bewleys in Dublin in a couple of months! Just let me know what you want to try! It might be March or it could be May, but he always calls and asks what tea I want. They have a Gurmans, too, and it is yum yum yum tea!

Hesper June

Wow! What a treat.
I would happily pay for some tea fresh from the old country!
I have not heard of Gurmans. (teeters off to google Gurman Tea)

Claire

Glad to read that you’re feeling better! Yorkshire Gold is my go to kick-in-the-pants tea. I might have to try this one now!

ashmanra

Gurman’s has such great service! There was a tea we wanted to order and they didn’t have it n the website, just in the store in Ireland. We emailed, they put it up just for us! Madame Butterfly is sooo good, I think sme of their teas might be sourced from Teageschwender.

I was having a headache all day. I am guessing it is a mixture of lack of sleep, having all my energy and calories seeping out, etc… I decided to make this tea. I used up the last bag sent by adagio breeze . This helped a lot! I think I forgot to have my morning tea today. My tea habits have gone out the door. My electric kettle has rust; I do not have a tea kettle; and my pots are teflon coated which alters the flavor of the water, so I have been microwaving my water. So, I haven’t been able to enjoy my oolongs, greens, or puerhs (I am pretty picky about how they are prepared).

Anyway, I didn’t have any milk, but the sugar was good enough with it. I put in some condensed milk, which changed the flavor entirely. Good, robust morning tea overall; though this isn’t something I would purchase.

CHAroma

Your electric kettle is rusty?? Oh dear.

ChariTea

Yes I was surprised! I was cleaning it with vinegar and water once in a while, but I noticed a spot of rust at the bottom that I couldn’t remove. I didn’t think that could possibly happen! >_<

CHAroma

Yeah, it’s probably time to get a new kettle.

A present from my mother who just returned from a visit to Dublin.
Served with a little milk, this tea tastes like your bog standard black morning tea. It’s adequately strong tasting and somewhat fresh and all in all it does the job nicely. A little bitter but not to the point of being too much and the milk mixes nicely to make it slightly more mellow. I truly don’t think anything is unique or special about this tea but pre bagged black is always handy.

Perhaps the more I try it the bigger a difference I can taste but right here right now it’s just normal black tea.

My friend mailed me some tea from Ireland. This tea is delicious and does not need cream or sugar. Nice strong black tea. Not bad for a tea bag. She also mailed me Irish Breakfast that I will try tomorrow.

Its a really standard black tea, a twist on your typical English Breakfast. Its not smooth – more harsh. I am not a particular fan of it. When it brews it brews strong, I am assuming it has pretty good caffeine content.

Overall nothing special.

ashmanra

I had lunch at Bewley’s in Dublin a few months ago. I tried their Lapsang and it was pretty tasty, and I like their Irish Afternoon, but Irish Breakfast was a little stronger than I like since I don’t add milk or sugar.

This was my morning tea of choice this AM. Since I try to get my caffeine in before noon, I really went for it this morning with a strong black tea. My box is almost gone. I enjoyed this tea. Not fancy but reliable. I pretty much knew what I was getting, a tea I can add adequate amounts of sugar and cream to and be truly comforted. A good friend to have on hand.
