Additional notes: I realized what cereal this tea reminds me of since I mentioned it in my last tasting note: Frankenberry. This hibiscus blend is tolerable because it has a creamy flavor to it and that helps cut the tartness. I say tolerable, but it might be my favorite hibiscus blend. I say favorite, but that still means tolerable for hibiscus.

This tea has reached it’s end. This is a sipdown and gladly so because this tea did not age very well. Nearly a year after my last review, the main dominating note is sour hibiscus and not much else. There is no remaining cream and even heavily sweetened, it isn’t very pleasant. I think I prefer this one fresh and if I restock I will need to drink it up within the first 9 months or so.

Violently pretty! I like this tea – it’s not super tart & the strawberries are really out there. Not creamy at all, to me. I’d like to try their black/strawberry next time, I think. Had this one late last night and got side-tracked with the child.. it was lovely cool in the morning, too. If strawberries didn’t trigger K’s oral allergy syndrome, I’d cold brew this with a bit of honey. Nom nom nom.

(It’s funny, looking at my last reviews of this tea, that I used to consider it more tart than I do now.. I wonder if my tastes have changed? Or was I just exaggerating?)

Tart eh? I immediately thought – it must have hibiscus! And it does! So you’re probably right about it being tart, but I think iciing it/drinking it cool tames the hibiscus.

TeaLady441

All the cool kids hate hibiscus.

Crowkettle

I actually like iced hibiscus and will eat it, along with everything else, in a dry fruit blend. Clearly not a cool kid. :/

Ozli

Hahaha, I don’t mind it when it’s light-ish like this one. It’s definitely very pretty!

This is SO vanilla-strawberry. I cold steeped in a mason jar (I found one of my handle-less tea strainers fits and I can put the lid on! It’s not perfect, but it’s WAY better than an open container) for 24 hours or so.

So strong.

So tonight I’ve cut it with some club soda.

So good. Too bad I don’t have any vanilla vodka or something. But then again, I do have to work tomorrow.

Vanilla vodka is always appropriate!

Sil

I agree…

oddree

I also agree with this.

Anna

We should clearly all get together and drink vanilla vodka.

OMGsrsly

I made this for my evening pot and it sure turned into such a pretty red brew. Unfortunately, that means it’s laced with hibiscus. :|

I did know that going in though. As expected it’s pretty tart, and I’m only getting a bit of creamy strawberry under all that. It’s almost ok though? I bet if I had it iced it would be much better.

Thanks ozli for letting me try this!

I am continuously baffled by how common hibiscus is in tisanes, yet not many people even like it.

I cold brewed this yesterday. Too much hibiscus this way. I would need to add sugar for this to make it taste like strawberry for me.
I am not sure I would buy this again

Just made a mug of this tea, and really like it. It made a beautiful rosy brew, and smelled heavenly.
I had it with less than 1/4 tsp sugar and a bit of milk.
Yes, I noticed the hibiscus, which I often find too tart, but in this tea it was good.

After brewing, I fished the bits of strawberry and apple out of the straining basket, and ate them. (Good heavens, how undignified. ;)
Thanks, Starfevre, for introducing me to this one!

P.S.: Starfevre, I just discovered your note about milk ruining this tea!
Since I liked it with milk, next time I’ll try it without – maybe it will be even better.

Ruin…well it’s really that the tea has hibiscus in it, which tends to curdle milk, makes it differentiate into particulates, if you noticed that happening in your tea. I did when I made it, and with most ‘fruity’ herbal teas. You may or may not like it more without. If you do, great! If you don’t, obviously add some milk.

Maryann

Hmmm…. that’s interesting. You’re right, I’d expect the milk to curdle (I put the milk in without thinking much about it, before I looked up the composition of the tea). But it didn’t curdle. Hmmm.

Still, next time I’ll try it without milk,
