This is my first East Frisian tea. It is strong but it still has the complex flavor of a finer tea. I noticed immediately that the energy was coursing through my body. My eyes were keen and aware. In my quest for a coffee replacement this one does just fine. I also purchased the BOP version and 13 other samples to try for my morning cup. While laying in my hospital bed a month ago I decided that I was going to give up coffee and devote myself fully to my beloved tea. Morning, noon and night….

I actually don’t miss it. I am enjoying these morning teas even more than coffee.

I’ve tried both the Upton versions and like the BOP version much better. This one was a bit weak and didn’t have the depth the other version has.

I enjoy the other version of this with the smaller pieces, so I decided to give this a try. Great smelling in the bag, reminds me of molasses and malt. Taste is that of good all around Assam tea. Maybe a little smoother than the other version?

The second of the EF samples, this one is definitely maltier but again, not overly so to my taste. It’s certainly smoother and with less bitterness than the BOP version.

I enjoyed this one a while back. It is just about the maltiest tea I have ever had. Other Assams might be stronger in various ways, but for pure malt flavor, this is the one. Good black as a coffee replacement or the traditional Friesian way with cream and rock sugar.

Strong, malty, more complex than the broken leaf version from Upton. Around 3 min steep seems about perfect.
