This is one of those teas you’re not really “supposed” to love. Not only is it bagged tea, it’s bagged tea you can find in pretty much any supermarket. Not even in a fancy pyramid bag! But my stomach is killing me tonight, and to be honest no other tea soothes an upset stomach or a sore throat (both of which are ailing me) like this. It’s just… lemon and ginger! If I’m feeling a bit less under the weather I’ll cut up some fresh ginger root and boil it with lemon… but really, this tastes almost identical with a dollop of honey. Plus it actually resteeps well: I leave the bag in and just refill my cup 2-3 times with boiling water. Also, no bitterness from the ginger even if the bag sits in water for 15+ minutes! This is really the ideal low-maintenance tea for me.

Yep, I’m definitely getting sick. So what do I choose? This tea, of course. Lemon for the cough, and ginger for the chills. Worked wonders, and tasted pretty good in the process. The ginger gets a bit strong halfway through the cup, but overall it’s a good cup.

I have a bit of a dry scratchy throat and a bit of a dry sniffy nose today. I am hoping it’s from not sleeping well and not from getting sick. I thought some warm tea would be soothing and picked this out at the last minute from the cupboard. It tastes exactly like you might think a lemon and ginger tea would taste. I’m not super fond of it though. I had originally thought I’d like it more than I did. I did steep it for less time and liked it better this way. I believe this one was a gift from mom, who sometimes buys me tea when she buys herself some.

I hope you’re not sick, too! I’ve noticed that I can wake up feeling like I have a cold when it’s dry out like it gets during the winter sometimes. Getting some liquid in me usually helps quite a bit.

I know this is not a very respectable tea, it isn’t even a real tea at all, but after months of turning my nose up at this box I realized over the weekend that it was exactly what I needed. Again. I am also almost out of it and am going to have to go pick up more. I apparently keep this in stock just in case.

When I don’t feel well I become a spectacularly bad homemaker. This means that sometimes I run out of fresh ginger, or lemon, or gasp BOTH!! In these situations I have found a bag or two of this can stand in. I can add it to chamomile and honey, or mate, and it is the perfect base for a flu/sore throat/scurvy/black death/general ick recovery potion. Over the weekend one of these and a spoon of honey got the S.O. to actually enjoy a mate, and ask for more! It’s just a good basic lemony-gingery tool to have in the arsenal.

By itself though it is not much. I always add honey or, well, something. By itself it tastes too much like the soapy side of lemongrass. Oh, and it is VERY forgiving of steep time and temp.

Aroma when Dry: Deep Lemon, Hot Ginger crisp, spicy
After water is first poured: Bright citrus, tangy, not sour moderate spice, hint of the blackberry notes.
At end of steep: warm citrus and blackberry balanced tangy notes hints of spice.
Tea liquor:
At end of steep: almost clear
Staple? Yes. My Go to lemon ginger blend.
Time of day preferred: Morning, afternoon.
Taste:
first notes: warm lemon, mild sweetness from blackberry and linden. Tang that is unobtrusive. Very balanced ginger undercurrent.
As it cools? Ginger surfaces more, as does the blackberry (without any greater sweet quality). Lemon mellows greatly.
Additives used (milk, honey, sugar etc)? No
Lingers? Slightly, the lemon relaxing into ginger and blackberry notes.

So like many reviewers of this tea, I’m drinking it only because I’m sick and can’t be bothered to go to the store to get real ginger. It’s not bad really for a bagged tea. I added a slice of lemon and lots of honey, so my assessment of the taste will be off, but there’s a nice little ginger kick. And I can just leave the bag in my mug and add water as needed, which is perfect because I really can’t deal with much more than that right now.

this one’s definitely got bite to it. if you’re more of a ginger fan than a lemon fan, i’d recommend it, or if it’s a cold winter night and you need something warming. just don’t steep it too long or it’ll be too spicy to drink. i’m not a terribly big fan of ginger, but lemon ginger tea is one i keep around in case of illness. still, this one might be a little too much ginger for me.

I may have used water that was a tad too hot, but I like the outcome either way. It’s exactly like one might expect. Heavy on the lemon, light on the ginger, and even lighter on the herbal tea flavor. It brews up to a pleasant shade of yellow. The scent of the tea itself is almost purely ginger, but then again, I have a cold, so I’m sure a lot of subtlety is being lost on me. If I get a chance, I would like to try this again with honey or agave nectar.

I’ve noticed that a lot of us have been trying this tea when we’re sick. Hmm.
