In the past few years, we’ve experimented with many “new” types of pu-erh and this is one of our favorites. Its smooth, sweet and malty character reveals many wonderful flavors through multiple infusions. Try rinsing two times and brewing with cooler water than you would other pu-erhs.

It’s been a process of trial and error for me as I have grown with this tea over the last few months. When I brew it Western style I get a very malty and pungent white tea which always intrigued me but left me wondering.
When I keep the infusions short and sweet (30-60 seconds) and the temp lower, to about 160 f is when this tea really starts to shine. I am getting a lot of sweetness with a tiny note of malt and fermentation. This is where I start to notice more of the floral type notes. Watching my evolution along with this tea is like watching a flower grow. It seems like there is vanilla in the finish. It is a great tea for multiple infusions as well and I look forward to seeing how it evolves over time.
I should also mention from the few white pu-erhs I have tried I seem to like them better than straight white tea. Perhaps it gives me the extra edge I need.

It is a soft, subtle, mellow brew. I worked in the garden all day and I was ready for something nice. I am about to brew cup 3 to their specs. This tea reminds me of a Bai Mu Dan that I had once. This tea is calming. I feel very peaceful. I now know that the lower temperature is the way to go. It is much more flavorful now. Or is it just opening up? A very nice experiance….
Have you ever gotten anything from Mandala tea? Garret (the owner) has a White Tea brick that’s really great. Mine is the 2008, but it looks like he just got in a pressing from 2011.

Hey! I am also becoming a fan of white-tea-based pu’ers. They’re an interesting thing to learn about. Have you tried any of the ones from Mandala Tea? They’ve been some of my favorites so far. I’ll have to revisit this Rishi offering some time.
Thanks for the recommendation of Mandala, do you have any suggestions of what I should try from there? Do you have this Rishi cake? The last time I looked at their website I did not see it there.

It’s got a similar yunnan sweetness like Verdant’s Jing Shan, and they’re cool spirals (always a plus).

One of my New Year resolutions is to delve into Puerh cakes-blacks, whites, and greens. I’ve actually been looking at them for several yrs, just never ordered any. The whites really interest me, so any other recommendations would be great.
