This tea was sent to me by Martin – many thanks, Martin!

I had this on the patio after breakfast. Although I looked at this listing for it a while back, I had forgotten what the flavors were so I had fun trying to see what scents I detected. I thought I was smelling lemon, but not tart lemon. It was a soft and slightly citrus aroma. There was a fruitiness as well. I asked Ashman to sniff the tea and then sip it and he said he detected fruit and he liked the tea.

The more I sipped the more I thought it was reminding of something with lavender that I have had before…and I realized I was tasting fig! The fig flavor really built up throughout the several small cups that I drank. I have Fig and Lavender from Tea Grotto and this reminds me very much of their fig flavoring. I liked theirs so much that I put it on my wishlist a while back, and Superanna bought me some.

The fig in this was so very similar to that one, minus the lavender. It was delicious. I think perhaps the base was giving the lemon vibes, but it was not at all astringent or sharp. It was quite smooth. The base tea was full of middle notes, lacking really sharp high tones or deep bassy or cocoa tones. It was a great carrier for this lovely flavoring.

Wow, it’s great you enjoyed it, but also a pity that more is unavailable since Michelle reported that they’ve changed the formulation to replace the fig with a yucky black-current flavoring. I hate when that happens! To top it off, all the customer reviews on P&T’s site are from before the reformulation! =Not a good thing!

Yes, my sample pouch said “old version” on it, and I am glad I got to taste the one before the unfortunate recipe change.

It is indeed a shame that they switched fig with black currant. While I pretty much adore the latter, fig was kind of unique flavour; hard to find. I have one fig tea in the office; I need to write notes before it will be a sipdown.

I added this to my paper and tea order because Ros and Martin liked it so much. Sorry to say the tea has changed formulas and the fig flavor is no longer there. I had hopes that the black currant flavor was of similar quality, but although it does taste like berries, there is a weird after taste that is not pleasing. They use bourbon vanilla flavoring in a bunch of their teas, I’m wondering if that is the offending flavor. Its going into the give away box.

Nooo! The fig was the unique element of this tea!

Michelle about a year ago

Definitely disappointed in the lack of figgy flavor here.

I was in their store in Lepzig and saly I have to confirm they changed the formula from fig to black currant. I have a sample, so I will definitely test it out, but I am sad about it for sure.

Adventaggedon Day 13: Tea 5/8

So I liked this tea a lot. It was so smooth but full bodied with really nuanced notes of fig preserve, leather, pipe tobacco, malt, and just a little bit of smoke. It tasted very nuanced and elegant despite maintaining a simplicity and directness to the flavour. Definitely the type of tea I could very easily see stocked up in my own stash!

I am glad to find (at least some) same descripotors. This tea is indeed lovely.

ADVENT DAY 9
It snows all day. What a fun to ride a car in this weather (irony). But it was necessary. I have a crown instead my tooth. Hurray!

And this tea waited for me in the afternoon at home. I did only single steep, as I had my two years old niece around and we were baking Christmas cookies, so not much time for tea.

I am grateful for tea from derk that I have finally received and now I have to find some time to put it into virtual cupboard. I don’t think I will do it today, although there are some nice ones for sure.

But for this tea. It should have fig, honey and leather notes and I can say I noticed all three? The base was very rich and leathery, but not in offensive way; smooth and enjoyable as well. Honey — I dare to say dark one. Very mouthcoating. Great base! ANd finally, the fig. I haven’t got much figs lately, to be honest. But it has got some quite nice fruitiness, a bit tropical for me — so I hope it is a fig.

Overall very enjoyable afternoon cuppa. I think I am getting used to their “not hitting in nose” notes and I can notice those fruits, herbs, whatever is in.

Ooh yes, I need more cookie details! :P

Linzer cookies, Coconut cookies and Bear paws were made today.

Recipes (from the Internet, not mine):

And we had a little helper, the niece was even helping! And it was so cuute!

And as for the last website, there are lots of Czech recipes and I always use it when someone wants to have recipes with ingredients available across the pond!

Mmm.. all those cookies look amazing.

Evol Ving Ness 4 years ago

Thanks for including the cookie photos and recipes, Martin. They look great! What is tulu in Czech?

Martin Bednář 4 years ago

Evol Ving Ness: I assume you meant tuku don’t you? I haven’t found that anywhere.

And if tuku, then it means fat. Usually butter or some mix of vegetable-animal (sorry if not correct) fat. Butter is safe bet :)

Martin Bednář 4 years ago

I forgot that for coconut ones you need this machine (Fig. 2). Back then it was meat grinder, but now it is usually used only for Christmas cookies as mince meat is available all year long.

Evol Ving Ness 4 years ago

Yes, it was tuku. ( I was going by memory.). Thank you. Funny, I was able to understand almost everything in the ingredients except for that word.

The whole Christmas season our ancient and trusty grinder was out.

ashmanra 4 years ago

I was wondering about the grinder! How do you use it with the cookies?

Martin Bednář 4 years ago

The use of grinder: There is a screw inside and you put the dough on the top. It goes through and instead of steel net which makes minced meat there are some styles you push through. I see I forgot to include the link, which makes sense you are confused guys.

https://www.oriondomacipotreby.cz/nastavec-k-lineckemu-cukrovi-vel-5-131704 Here the link!

ashmanra 4 years ago

I see! We have something similar but it is a tube you hold and hand press the dough through by either turning a knob or squeezing a “trigger.” Depends on the style, Yours is more suited to making larger amounts, though! I didn’t know a grinder could be used that way and had those attachments! Makes sense for it to have double duty like that. Brilliant.

When I saw it in the pic you sent I just assumed you make your own sausage and keep it out.
