From Lupicia

White tea from Fujian province is scented with succulent and sweet melons. Steep in boiling water to bring out the full melon flavor, or use a slightly cooler temperature to coax more mellow sweetness from the white tea. Ideal for a summer iced tea.

I’m doing something wrong here. It smells amazing — very much like Lucipia’s Golden Honey Dew, and I’m assuming the flavor is the same — however I’m getting less flavor than expected. My son however just gulped this down like it was candy, and told me, “Mommy, this is very good tea!”

… so I’m chalking it up to weird tastebuds from the April in Paris earlier, and just leaving the rating off yet again.

Mucho gracias to jump62359 (hopefully I got the numbers right this time!) for sending some of this along to me.

Oh, too bad, I had such a delightful experience with this. Lol, your son seems to know what’s good fir him :-)
If it helps, this how I prepared mine. Since it’s white, I used three teaspoons for a 16oz mug, water temp 80C, three minutes, and it was like drinking honeydew juice!

another tea from jump62359 and it;s delicious! I can’t honestly say whether i like this one or the melon oolong better. I think they could both have a place in my cupboard because YES MELON PLEASE! lol i’m glad i got to try this one close to the melon oolong though. of course, now i want to place a lupicia order…again. must. resist. lol thank you jump62359!

TheTeaFairy

Mmmm.. this tea is just what I needed this afternoon! It’s light, crisp, refreshing and most importantly, with a sweet & juicy melon flavor! This cup, compared to Lupicia’s other melon teas, is more evenly balanced. It seems like there is enough melon for me to enjoy, but the white tea base isn’t lost. The white tea is crisp, a little bit minty and sweet. My usual problem with many of the melon teas out there is that the melon isn’t strong enough, but it’s just right with this blend. Thank you SO much, jump62359 for sharing some of this with me! I am beyond pleased to have been able to try this. Delicious!

jump62359

Ahh apologies that the sample was fairly small!
Next time I go to Lupicia, I’ll probably get another pack so I can send you a decent sample size :)

QueenOfTarts

No, no! I am very happy to even have the chance to try it! It’s been on my list for a while. Thank you!

Of course! It’s my pleasure :)

i shared this delicious tea at my weekend tea gathering too! Oddree was there as well and also enjoyed it.

i’m a person who has a lot of fads. and i’m one of those people that others will say “oh yes me too” but anyone who has experienced my fads first hand knows that they probably don’t come close. BUT as tea people, there might be a few of you who do. tea is just kinda like that isn’t it.

well, on my tea hiatus i took up nail art. so i was mostly doing this stuff http://handfic.tumblr.com/
truth is i barely take pictures of my nails considering how much time i spending choosing colors and changing them. i really should document it more. future-me will thank present-time-me if i do.

so more nail photos and more tea logs! coming up!

jump62359 also sent me this tea as just a generous surprise gift! i’m a lucky gal :)

Love the She-Hulk ones! :D

OMGsrsly

Nails! Love them. :)

Shmiracles

Thanks Cameron, they are my favorite too. the artist makes the best covers and draws women great. (he draws men great too http://kevinwada.tumblr.com/post/99250642276 hahah) the she-hulk is a constant nail go-to for me. i basically print lots of little random decals, and then just print a whole page of she-hulk and a whole page of hawkeye. they give me joy.
(also the she-hulk artist complimented my nails personally on instagram, so i have official approval to mutilate/honor his work all i want haha)

The biggest problem with Lupicia is how they recommend boiling water for all their teas. Any true tea drinker knows this completely incorrect! After taking that into consideration, it’s a well-rounded melon tea. It’s pretty floral ontop of a melon aroma. The white tea flavor, when I have made it, is pretty strong but not overtly strong either. I find it a good alternative to the honeydew melon rooibos-based tea if I’m not feeling like rooibos at the time.

I simply cannot agree with you there – Lupicia are a HUGE brand and obviously very knowledgeable about their own product. I think their teas are at their absolute best when you follow the steeping instructions – otherwise there tends to be bitterness and loss of flavour.

Their greens and whites simply aren’t as delicate as many other teas. Teas are different, and a ‘true tea drinker’ would know this, and acknowledge this, so I’m going to challenge you to overcome your prejudice and try all Lupicia’s teas using the steeping suggestions. =)

Why is it that this tea smells like tea fart but tastes like beautiful melon white tea?
Definitely prefer the Golden Honey Dew flavour over this one, it definitely is much stronger. And the white tea I feel is what makes that fart-like scent ahhah
But it tastes wonderful! Just the scent is a bit off putting.

ALSO GRADES ARE POSTED AND I GOT AN A IN FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY. A FLAT OUT A.
So another A, A- and a B- comes to a 3.6 gpa which means HELLO DEAN’S LIST.
Dude I’m so happy okay. I worked so hard for these grades and now I can play at the Disney parks all summer long! I definitely feel like I deserved it :)

Also, I went to orientation for the DCP yesterday, and out of 20,000 applications, only 400 students got chosen for the Disneyland College Program. Like wow I feel special. Only 2% got accepted wow.

Wow.

I opened up the packet and cantaloupes fell out. Or at least, that’s what it smelled like.

This is what other sweet flavored white teas aspire to and fail to achieve in my view.

I decided to steep in the gaiwan per the comment from yyz on my last white tea endeavor, however, I didn’t have the note in front of me and steeped a bit shorter. 30 seconds, then going up to 45.

The aroma is also of cantaloupe, though mellower. The liquor is pale yellow.

The flavor is pure cantaloupe, without any adjustments. There is no winy-ness to speak of, like some other melon flavored teas I’ve had. There’s no bitterness.

The tea isn’t planty or overpowering, nor is it non-existent, but I don’t get a strong flavor, more like a dark undercurrent that lets me know I’m drinking tea rather than hot cantaloupe juice.

The aftertaste is sweet and gently melon-y.

It’s the best flavored white I have had thus far that doesn’t rely on a tart citrus to cut an unpleasant mustiness, and I’ve rated it accordingly. The good news is I have a fair amount of this and I can play with the time and temp until I get it as close to perfect as possible.

Fjellrev

Sounds great! Makes me wonder how it compares to Butiki’s Cantaloupe and Cream.

Anna

Fjellrev – I did a melon-off last year, with this, Lupicia’s Melon Oolong and Butiki’s C&C. They were so different I felt there was a place for all of them in my cupboard, but if I had to pick a single one, it would be the oolong. (Because oolong.)

keychange

Anna, I’m with you about the magic of that oolong. It’s like, desert island worthy as far as I’m concerned. I’ve been dreaming about it ever since I tried it. It’s changed my life. I’m a better person (ok well not really-that’d require less general rage LOL) because of it.

Anna

Hahaha, keychange, you sound exactly like my top tasting note for Lupicia’s Ripe Mango Oolong.

keychange

It’s what they do to us!

__Morgana__

Oooh, now I need to try the melon oolong!

Anna

Yes, you really do. All the oolongs.
