I served this as the final tea party selection today. I wanted it to be separated from the taste of the black currant jam for a bit so the flavors wouldn’t compete with each other.

I loved the aroma of this, and I must confess that after drinking it before bedtime, I dreamt about it most of the night. I woke up with the flavor on my mind and fought with myself about serving it today because I was afraid the sweet black currant jam would take the shine off the tea. No worries, it didn’t hurt a bit. I just served this last, well after we had the jam, and it was really good. My guest seemed to enjoy it a lot. Next up, I want to try it iced and sweetened!

I just put this on my wish list tonight! Can’t wait to get some.

Tea of the afternoon here, it isn’t too bad but also not destined to be a favorite of mine. A little brown sugar made this one better. See previous notes for more info….

I got a couple free pyramid bags of this in my order and I’m really in the mood for a low-maintenance tea so into the cup this went! Like others have said the smell of this is intoxicating, like fresh jam that you’re just about to spread on wonderfully crusty toast. Steeped, it has almost a candy aspect. There are these Japanese cassis hard candies that I really like and this smells just like them!

I think the reviews on this one are spot on: it doesn’t taste nearly as strong as the smell (either of the dry leaves or the steep). However, it’s a nice mellow black with a prominent cassis flavor and a hint of blueberry, and like all teas that I’ve tried from Lupicia it has no artificialness at all. I also really overseeped it and it came out fine, not bitter at all! I’m honestly kind of glad it doesn’t smell as strong as the leaves, since that would be kind of like drinking candy! I love berry teas and this is definitely a nice one: I’d actually consider getting this in bagged form rather than loose since it’s so darn convenient.

It’s really tasty! I like that the flavors are sort of downplayed

Many thanks to TeaBrat for sharing this with me. It’s quite delicous!!
Very flavourful and rich, with a slight hint of something fermented, like Cassis.
Funny, it reminds me of Anne of Green Gables where Anne gets Diana drunk on what they think is Raspberry Cordial (my memory was faulty, I thought it was blueberry. Hence why it reminded me. Oops!)

TeaBrat

Yay, I’m glad you finally got the package!

Oops, I never added this sample to my cupboard. Sipdown anyway.

Even though I bought my teas in store in San Francisco, they still gave me a free sample sachet with my purchase. I love black currants (cassis) and black currant flavor, but dislike blueberry flavor and only like the actual berries occasionally, so I was feeling kind of meh about this tea.

I agree with others that this smells much more balanced blueberry:cassis when dry. It is unsurprising that I am pleased that the black currant takes over the blueberry in the steeped tea, even though others were not. However, the blueberry is there, in the background, keeping this from pure cassis glory (see how I am biased against blueberry). But I do find it to be a decently tasty berry tea, not too overly strongly flavored or artificial.

I love Lupicia but this tea was not to my liking whatsoever. The Cassis totally over shadowed the blueberry even though as others have said the dry leaf smelled AMAZING.

Agree with people that say this is not as tasty as it smells. This was one of the make up samples Lupicia sent and I’m on the lookout for a black currant tea I like. This one would not be it.

I’m not sure if it’s the base tea or the flavorings themselves but the taste is just kind of meh. It’s very, very berry but it just seems kind of fake tasting. The base tea started off okay but has fallen flat in my opinion to holding up the flavors. It doesn’t help either that as it’s cooled it’s gotten a bit bitter.

Oh well, plenty more out there to try.

It’s almost midnight and I was looking for something free of caffeine… I picked this from my cupboard, thought it was a tisane without paying attention to the description on the package. Was surprised to see tea leaves when I got the tea bag out! The dry leaves had an intense aroma of berries. When brewed the berry aroma gave way to that of blackcurrant. The fruity flavour was less prominent than the fragrance, but it was still a delicious tea. I particularly liked the sweet, gummy flavour at the end of each sip! Interesting.

Got this in teabag form as a sample the last time I was in the Lupicia store. I thought I was in the mood for this one this morning, as I usually like dark berry flavored teas. I may have pversteeped it, since I’m used to steeping parameters for loose leaf rather than teabags now. It got dark really fast. The dark berry flavor was very pronounced…good, but not as well rounded as i would like. Unfortunately, it turns out I really don’t like the Lupicia black tea base. Oh well, at least I know that now!

I do like the samples from Lupicia… Too bad you can’t just buy 1 teabag every time so that trying different teas would be so easy. I like this one well enough, it is fruit smelling and the berry taste is strong enough. It would probably be a nice iced tea as well. I can’t tell between various berry taste so it tastes good to me, kind of like jam/jelly. If my toaster still worked I would definitely have this tea with jam and toast in the morning.. I only found tangy honey mustard ruffles chips to eat so far.

JustJames

you could always do the chipes for dinner and the tea for dessert? lol. i’ve been craving a tea like this and grabbed ‘blueberry jam’ from david’s teas…. haven’t found another blueberry punch quite as heavy as that one yet (though i intend to try the blueberry purple puerh from butiki).
